Because you’ve experienced intense emotion - joy , exhilaration, etc. The same reason that kids cry when they get a puppy for Christmas. Everyone says why are you crying? It’s obvious, they are overwhelmed with emotion. It has nothing to do with sadness.
Even back then, the utterly rigid figure skating establishment used to chide her saying "she held Lloyd back", but the truth is, he went through countless partners including one he went to the 1984 Olympics with, and NONE were even close to as fearless as Isabelle was. Nobody else in any country, (yes including you Russia,) would have had the guts to do THAT many different death defying lifts with the frequency that they did. Even today, pairs don't even ATTEMPT anything as daring.
Take into consideration that in 2004 they were 41/34 years old. Pretty amazing.
