Chris Ward will be talked about as part of surfing history as long as surfing exists. I miss 90’s surfing
I don't know about Kelly Slater being "main steam". He was the only pro surfer to openly question and criticize the Covid 19 pandemic measures forced on people. That was as far away as main stream as it gets.

Chris Ward was and still is one of the best surfers ever
When Chris Ward qualified for what was then called the "top 44" towards what was actually the latter half of his time, he made the final at snapper and people were blown away by how well he surfed the right. After seeing him ripping in all those ..lost videos it was great to see him do it against the worlds best in that event
Love this discussion. Chas says u can like Chris Ward as an interesting perspnality/surfer and still be repulsed by his beating a woman. Chas can deal with nuance. My dad was prof of Eng & American lit and I once asked him how he could love these writers and poets knowing that they said such awful things about Jews? Their anti-Semitism didn't really bother him. He was interested in them as writers. I was like, wow. That's pretty cool dad that you can separate it. Chas is doing the same thing.

Chris Ward is human . The guy has made mistakes. Chris Ward is a great surfer ( one of the best ever ) and a great guy ! It was probably a Snowball fight with his spouse got out of control. Nonsense. Pick on someone from Huntington Beach , Santa Barbara or something. The San Clemente crew has been hammered with bad labels . Fletcher , Archy , etc

Not gossip, surfers like Wardo have been idolized by the industry and this podcast is just talking about the reality of some of our favorite surfers. Attitudes like yours lead to guys like Andy being worshiped, with no one addressing the obvious drug and alcohol issues that went on to kill him

Truth is Ward did some really bad , criminal stuff . If your sister was Wards wife , maybe how good a surfer he is hopefully wouldn’t be a definition of a “ good guy “
