  • How to take your procreate drawing and convert it into a single line laser cut file. You will need Adobe Illustrator for this process.
I draw all of my files on my iPad in Procreate. Find Procreate in the App Store. I have found this to be the easiest way for me to convert hand drawn procreate files to laser ready, single line cut files.
If you would like to purchase my cut files you can find them by visiting kendrasgotwood...

Thanks girl! Def takes some editing after, but it worked for me when I needed to convert my scroll saw templates. Now I usually sketch in procreate and draw my final lines in AI.

OMG THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!! I knew there was an easy way to make line drawings into single line vectors, and you made it so easy. I kept using Image Trace, but I kept getting the outline of the lines instead of just a single line. Using the "Line Art" setting was the key! (Wy didn't I try that?)
I appreciated the extra tips about how to fix some of the wonky lines that might be left over. I have been pulling my hair out trying to convert hand drawn chip carving patterns into vectors, so I could use my laser to "cut" the pattern into the wood. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I’m glad it’s helped! I’ve actually since switched to starting with a rough sketch in procreate and then tracing by hand in AI on iPad, but for already made line drawings with a solid black line this is still a great method.

Do you know if this can be done in Inkscape or gimp instead of AI? Thanks!

If I want to take my dad’s handwriting and engrave it on a frame, is this the way to do it? If not, do you have another video showing how to convert a letter from a loved one to an engraving? Thank you!!

I wouldn’t do it this way. You could try the image trace function right in lightburn or whatever program you’re using. If it doesn’t work you may need to trace by hand in procreate. I don’t have a video.

great! I wonder why the wood is so burned if you have an air assist...

I don’t remember what settings I was using at this time, but regardless in my experience air assist doesn’t stop charring all together.

For some reason when I click the "line art" under image trace, it gives me a lot of broken lines and missing lines from my image which is a simple flower. Any ideas why this is happening? I'm desperately trying to laser cut files for shaping as they are so hard to find! Thank you!

I’m not sure honestly, I used to have that issue sometimes when I’d erase in procreate. I have since started just tracing by hand in illustrator and/or fixing things in lightburn.

When I click on image trace it wont let you click any of the options. Not sure what I am doing wrong but this video is exactly what I was looking for.. just need to figure out why this option isn't working.

Are you using the drop down arrow when you click, rather than just the button?

i noticed you laser is cutting like it is drawing... how can i get mine to cut like that if the only options are hor-diag vertical?
i am using png files. is that a problem? does it have to be vectors?
i am also using laser grbl. does it matter? i am new to laser engraving and cutting. i appreciate the help.

I don’t know what grbl is but you should be using SVG files typically.

Has anyone had any problems with after clicking expland, it does not make the line like mentioned in the video? I have tried multiple different files and all it does is trace both lines, not draw one line to make smaller and into a single line?

    • @KendrasGotWood
      @KendrasGotWood  2 роки тому

You might be skipping a step. It should definitely create one line. Are you sure you’re clicking “line art” or clicking expand after?

I am having sort of the same issue as Samantha. When I choose line art only bits and pieces show up even before I hit expand. Any suggestions?

So on AI on iPad, You upload your image.
Click the OBJECT icon on the right side of the screen ( it’s the square with 4 circles in corners)
      Click Vectorize.
Once it’s vectorized the PROPERTIES screen pops up automatically
Go to the vectorize section where is says SOURCE and right under it will say SKETCH
Click on SKETCH then scroll to LINE ART. It will process
Click on the OBJECT ICON again and click EXPAND VECTORIZATION
The properties screen should still be out then go to the bottom section where it says STROKE
Click on the rectangle that has two dashes - - and put the number to 1 (any small # works)
      And that’s it !!,
