I think Tatum's performance is very much underrated in the movie! I understand why all the focus is primary on Carell, and sometimes also a bit on Marc Ruffalo... But Tatum's role and character are so essential to the development of the entire drama, and he nails this incredibly difficult role absolutly perfectly. It's a movie with three extraordinary performances, not just two.
After reading the book and in Mark's own words, the way he describes himself, his inner struggles, everything - Channing was AMAZING. His performance was the best out of the three - in my opinion, after reading the book. I'm sorry to see him missed out with the awards and such, because it was worthy of at least a mention, if not a win or two.
...and maybe it's simply because Ruffalo has ten times more on-screen charisma than Channing, and Carell gave a stellar acting performance which dwarfed all others in the movie !
I thought Tatum was the best in the film, Carrell got all the attention because it was quite a dark turn for him, but in a way in was a caricature, built on gimmicks. Channing has a a much more real human role.
Saw the film, and I am very familiar with Mark Schultz from trying to learn by watching him and his brother Dave wrestle... I think Channing did a great job. I know it's hard to capture such unique individuals like the Schultz brothers through acting, and some people wanted someone else to do the role, but I can't think of who would get the mannerisms and even the walk like Mark as well as Channing did. Last but probably most important; it's EXTREMELY hard to get actors to give realistic action for wrestling. It's a sport that has such a huge amount of improvising yet the techniques (especially at the Schultz's level) take so long to get right... it almost never looks right on film. Tatum and Ruffalo did an amazing job, I assumed they just had to have wrestling experience or they are both exceptional athletes to make it look that correct.
This movie was fantastic. So unrelenting in it's tone and everything is so deliberate. Tatum's performance as Schultz will put him on the map for more serious films. I believe that Bennett Miller will be nominated and will win best director. I've been wrong before, but I feel it is truly deserved here.
I was in school when the Schultz Bros. were Sooners. awesome talent. Dave was charismatic. Mark beating Bannach (sp) in Norman was all time no.1 sporting event I have seen. So sad for Dave's family.
I believe Channing also had most screen time. We see only him in the first 5-10 minutes, then also in the scenes with his brother (Ruffalo of course) and the scenes with DuPont. He was the real victim in the movie, even tho Dave ended up being the worst victim. But Mark could have done better at the Olympics had it not been for the fallout with DuPont. He just wanted to lose so he could get out of it all and get that crazy SOB off his back (pun intended, I guess). This of course shortened his wrestling career and he was only 28. And, even worse, in John DuPont he had found a father figure only to then realize the man is mad and to get a major disappointment of his life...very tragic life he has had.
in the beginning when this guy was just the actor from those shitty dance movies and that horrible amanda bynes movie that every 14 year old girl loves, i HATED channing tatum. but after he made the 21 jump street movies and foxcatcher, he's starting to grow on me. he's still not a great actor but he's steadily improving.
Nah, he's a good actor you're just biased against him still and that's slowly improving. You don't do a role like Foxcatcher and have everyone tell you "He became the real life person" and not be a good or even a great actor. I don't care what you say, you just don't pull that off from luck.
this is me watching countless videos and reading all those books..............you often thing about EVERYTHING .......BUT......WHAT THE SCENE IS ABOUT, TECHNICALLY.
have loved channing tatum for a long time. In the beginning, i thought it was because he's so good-looking, but he genuinely is a great actor. Even in all the sappy romantic movies, he's very grounded and can play emotion very, very well. Look forward to seeing him grow both on the big screen, and with his beautiful, committed family.
All I know is that the scene, where he cits John's hair, is doing coke and then kneeling at DuPont's feet, is cringeworthy. More than when John slapped him. At least he got mad then.
Matt Creary The actual moves are predominantly real (obviously fake punches also some throws here and there) but WWE is scripted, the matches are determined before hand etc

I could not agree more! He was completely overlooked

I agree that he did really well in the movie.
One of the slowest movies I ever saw, but I never felt it's length. Great film!
Thats what she said
Dimes329 well played sir, well played :D
Should have just watched the Netflix doc
Ayoooo
Since seeing the movie I've really come to respect him as actor.
This movie was awesome, he was so unbelievably in character

Tom Hardy would have killed this role but Channing did very well, was impressed by him.

great movie one of the best of the year really enjoyed it

Amazing role, didn't know much about Channing Tatum before this
greatest film of all time..greatest acting of all time
Why wasn't Tatum nominated for best Actor along with Steve Carell?
41RobLow His performance was just as good as Ruffalo's. Ruffalo even stated that Tatum should've been nominated insted
41RobLow That's an exaggeration. The Oscars are all about people who step out of their normal-acting-groove and do a good job, which all three did.
41RobLow good point , but he had to go through alot of changes for this role , his build , and to learn wrestling is ridiculously hard

The cocaine scene in the movie when Mark had his tips blonde and they were on the porch was very creepy, creepier still was the shaving scene.

damn he really sells his movie
was sarcasm
He would have made a great Jim Halpert on the Office!
Марк Руфалло 👑
Double cutting sword?
Funkyboy J double edged sword
Did he really punch himself in the face for the movie?
Probably. The scene where he smashed his head against a mirror was genuine, as was the cut to his forehead afterwards.
@@kingofthering3343 but i wonder, doesn't he have a scar from shattering a mirror with his head??
@@mariagolob No. It wasn't a serious cut, but it was genuine.
@@kingofthering3343bro responded 3 years later damn
*double cutting sword...way to close out the interview chan
Mark ruffulo didn’t look like Dave Shultz at all. Size, height or nothing. They could’ve gotten better after. Tatum looks more like mark
