What a nice coincedence that You started making videos just before I got interested in BFG 😉 I really like Your content and would love to see some demonstration games to compliment the rules videos. Greetungs from Germany!
@benedikts.8371 thank you. Yes, some demo games are something I'd like to do this year. Just trying to sort out some dates with other players herr to be able to record etc.
The resin Forgeworld Tau models have a radically different aesthetic to that of the blocky metal of the Specialist Games ships. The Emissary is a copy of the ship design from the Firewarrior game on the playstation2. The rest are in-house designs for imperial armour 3 (The Taros campaign). Due to the pricing method of specialist games at the time, the tau fleet was very expensive to own. Forgeworld however, offered a very affordable alternative. I think it was significantly less than half the price of the SG alternative! Also note that forgeworld made the Stronghold and Bastion models at competitive prices also (Demiurg/Votaan). I'm getting into the weeds but the Kroot warsphere was a disaster product. It was the most expensive model in the range (more expensive than the Ramillies starfort) and also very cheap and uncompetetive in game. The problem was the spikes, they counted as individual components with a minimum value of 50p each. This bloated the price of an otherwise relatively simple model.
@turbidious those bloody spikes! I know someone who pinned each one. The price though was something like £40 at last count. Over half of that was the bloody spikes! The first draft of the Custodian rules that were sent over from Forgeworld were absurdly overpowered (I suppose it depends which rule set you now use). It had 8 launch bays, 8 Torps, and a ton of firepower at 45cm. Which ruleset do you use for the Forgeworld Tau?
The Forge World Tau ships are much more evocative of the Tau "style" than the original Tau merchant fleet. I've been able to source most of them online but still have to repaint them. And identify the gaps in the fleet.
History time: Forgeworld released the models wirh rules in Imperial Armour 3. But as they didnt release these online like the other BFG stuff the BFG rules committee released their own Tau FW document (with a horrific fleet list selection haha). Forgeworld requested Specialist games to remove them from the web! A year later FW released a pdf with the IA3 rules and a new fleet list. It was an okay list but a bit boring. Meanwhile fans made own versions. The shinnentai/xisor edition was well known. And the Project Distant Darkness file by Zhai Morenn and me. Introducing 90degree Protectors. :) The latter was later in 2010 the big source for the new official rules! So yeah for that. And now it is a really well liked fleet. All documents are available at the rules hub.
I’ve played one game with them and I just kept pumping out ordinance so much ran out of some markers lol. I got lucky with not really being hit by the Nova Cannon but was able to get that ordinance superiority

@Raygun9000 great lore again mate. I didn't add any of the spikes to my kroot warsphere. Hated them ha

Apparently, can’t get forge world models now. Spoot.
The Warp Rift article by Nate is great history on the kroot Warsphere

@@kwalkrkcco4397 they both have a soft spot in my heart. Ha
Gaps in the fleet?
@@RoyAmkreutz I should have said 'identify the models I'm missing and still need to find'. Didn't mean to imply an issue with fleet list or stats.
@kwalkrkcco4397 ah, okay
My friends making a fleet of these. It will be exciting to throw my models against them when he finishes.
@@electricfan1085 awesome!
The Emissary was actually released in 2003. Before the GW Tau messenger. Kinda funny isn't it

Great video and I must say, that’s one silky voice

Yeah they can really put a lot on the table and can overwhelm other fleets
Remember there is still a launch bay limit for active AC in play
