- I love unique Linux Distributions that innovate. I feel like SDESK Linux could be one of them. Poke around their website for a bit, and you'll see what I'm talking about; Truly Unique. www.stevestudi...
This is my first look at SDESK Linux.

"i know enough to break my system"
I felt that in my soul. Why would i read up on a new distro when i can just wing it and brick a desktop or two lol
So true! I know that I think this about Windows users sometimes, but then I realize I am that exact same user when it comes to Linux. I have to be really careful because I will definitely break stuff.
It is weird when software developers call their software "beautiful", and the vast majority of the time, they are anything but beautiful. That web browser is ugly as anything.
I agree. I feel like they’re copying Apple by saying that annoying stuff.
And another Brick added to the Fragmentation of Distros that is completely unnessescary
It might be unnecessary to some, however, I always value more choice
@@RandyHanley we already have enough choice out there and this Distro offers nothing special that can't be easy configured in one of the existing Distributions. Time and knowledge wasted instead of trying to enhance and develop the Linux to become more popular and useful. That's what it is. Same principle as in the Android Phone Market where the Hardware is barely different, but are sold under 10.000 brands. Waste of ressources...
@@Nonpoetry I totally get what you are saying. Android has been known as fragmented for a long time. there will be no way to stop this. However, we never know if one of those projects will spin up something special, such as the Linux Mint team, developing tools, etc, such as Warpinator, Cinnamon…
@@RandyHanley Don't get me wrong, I like Linux. Personally, I use Vanilla OS as a daily driver (besides Windows) because they simply do a good job and have an interesting concept regarding immutable Linux. THAT is something that should be mentioned and presented.
It's not clear from your video what makes SDESK Linux so special (nothing?) compared to other distributions. I just have the impression that someone has thrown together an existing substructure with an existing interface, an existing installer, package manager etc., given it a new name and that's it. So it's completely generic and not even worth mentioning. You've seen this a thousand times and I think that's also a problem of many Linux UA-camrs, that they jump on every fart and present distributions in the same, boring way. A few windows that have already been seen a thousand times are presented, the console is shown and nobody emphasizes why you should take a closer look at exactly THIS Linux. And why? Because there are hardly any differences or special features that you haven't seen anywhere else. Apart from that, it once again seems to be just one of those small distros where nobody knows how long the developer will want to provide support and whose time and skills could be better used to contribute to innovations and improvements in the versions that are now "widely" used.
@@RandyHanley It's just frustrating, to see the same stuff again and again. Linux deserves a much wider Usage in the Mainstream, but if you overwhelm people with Choices, they stick to what they already have and refuse to buy/use. That's simple Marketing Psychology I have to handle with every day. Make just a few Distributions, but make them GOOD and SPECIAL and "wantable" (sorry, I just made up this Word for myself :D ). That should be the way the Linux-Community need to go. Oh, and f***ing stop that toxic Behaviour and Gatekeeping in Support-Forums ect. Many Communities tend to say they are friendly and welcoming to new Users, but as soon you're asking the "wrong" Question, they show their true natur which isn't that nice.
Looks like Debian 12
Good point!
@@RandyHanley The author has 1 command on his site for installing Swirl which is using pacman. I'd bet this is Arch based. Also, it uses Chromium libs but isn't a fork of Chromium .
