Generally prefer modified thinset ... but if there is a sealant that Hydro Ban recommends for tile, then I'd definitely look at working with it. What are your experiences with it, Schannon?
Apologies for the simple, stupid question. But what is thinset? Does it have another name for Europe? We don't have that in Europe I believe. Thanks again for sharing your videos and expertise! Greatly appreciated. Have a great Sunday! mike-barcelona
Not at all. Look into the newer products like this Hydroban, GoBoard, Wedy. All they need is that sealant in a tube to waterproof the seams between boards and the heads of the screws. Boards are very light and easy to cut with an utility knife. As an example, one panel of Goboard 3'x5' weighs about 3 lbs but the downside is the price...about $26. Where you save is in labor and time.
Can I buy that stuff at Home Depot or Lowe’s the walls or do I have to order it on line. My bathroom beeen down for 2 years trying to learn how you doooo booo 😂
Lowe's and Menards carry something very similar to this called GoBoard. Where I live we also have The Tile Shop that carries it. Problem with Lowe's and Menards is that they don't have it in every market. For this specific Hydroban that she is using here you can find it at Floor&Decor if there is one in your area.
What do you use for sealant?
JUST did this and it is so much easier! Love this content thanks 😊

A cementitious product that is used as a tile adhesive.
Cheers. Thanks for that. Any chance do you know why it is called 'thin set' spelling, apologies if incorrect.
I’ve used both hydroban and Schluter with thin set but I can see the value in saving time and customer $ if it works. So.. no seam tape? Hmm
Do those boards need a rubberized membrane painted on them?
