    In this video we give you a great drill to help you maintain the extension of your arms through the baseball swing.
    One of the most common flaws for cutting the swing short is the "chicken wing" effect where it looks like you make chicken wing with your lead arm during the follow through.
    In this drill we will be using a wiffle ball bat initially. We will then maintain solid hitting mechanics as we perform the throw drill towards right center field while making sure we get nice, long extension with our arms.
    IMPORTANT!! Make sure you do this drill at full speed so that you're simulating a game speed swing. This drill is very easy to cheat if done too slow.
    Once you get a good 50-100 repetitions throwing the wiffle ball bat, take 20 dry swings with your game bat keeping the same feeling. Then another 25-50 repetitions hitting the ball with the "throw the bat towards right center field" feeling.
    This drill will help you really start to stay through the ball and fix the "chicken wing." You should also notice a significant change in your bat speed and power to the opposite field!!
    Keep working hard!!
    I look forward to helping you improve your baseball in the future!
    Pro Speed Baseball,

    Hey great videos I watch them to teach my children how to hit with more power and faster bat swing.
    My question is does lifting weights increase bat speed or slow you down?

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  9 років тому +1

      rick griffin Thanks Rick, glad you like the instruction! And thanks for the question!
      To answer your question simply: It's all in HOW the weights are lifted. If an athlete is lifting weights slowly (usually result of lifting heavy) then you train your body for strength, yet not for explosion.
      If weights are moved quickly and explosively, then you will be building explosive strength which correlates with what is functional in most sports or "bat speed."
      Hope this answers your question! Obviously there's a lot more to it than just that, so if you have any other questions on this or anything else don't hesitate to let me know!

      BardownBoys Have you checked out the Power Hitting Series yet?? It's a great series to help with the overall power moves in the baseball swing. I'll post a link to the first video here:

      Excellent video . Something I tell my kids is to finish high which helps them understand to stay long in the zone . But I love this drill . Heard about throwing the bat before . Or throwing your hands at the pitcher , serving the pizza etc . Same concept . Gonna go out and buy a bunch of whiffle bats

    Doesn't Mike Trout "chicken wing" a bit? What makes his swing different from what you consider a flaw? thanks.

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  8 років тому +1

      +Peter Kim Hey Peter, thanks for the question. Apologies for the lateness in getting back to you.
      Trout doesn't always get full extension after contact, (which he still seem to do fine with :P) yet, I wouldn't classify him as a guy who "chicken wings."
      At PSB we define the "chicken wing" in 2 different ways. The easy one to see is when the elbow gets above the shoulder and the second on e is when we get jammed up through contact and elbow still gets a little too high.
      As far as Trout's swing goes, he is very efficient with lagging and releasing the bat through contact. Also, he is physically very strong and can get away with a less than an ideal swing.
      Hope this answers your question! If you have any other questions, just let me know and I'll be sure to get back to you much quicker next time! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
