I was in the service when they got rid of C Rations and started issuing MRE's for field operations. The best part of the MRE was the freeze dried bits and pieces. The rest was awful. No kidding', guys would go to the first Army/Navy surplus they could find and buy C rats if they knew there was a Field Training Exercise coming up. Thanks for all you do, Jill.
@@ntxg It was mostly dehydrated fruit and if I recall, a potato plank of some kind. The rest was "mystery meat". Still, you eat what they give you. I saw one not so long ago that had a tiny little bottle of Tabasco in it. Trust me, if they're no better than they were, the boys will need all the Tabasco they can get.
Omgosh! Well we think along those lines and keep hot sauce on and can our peppers. Flavor could be very important during stressful times it even good times. A little bit of comfort you might say

Good morning from South Texas! Receiving my freeze dryer on Friday so I've been looking for different things to freeze dry and ran across your channel - which is awesome! I was wondering - what do you think about pre-seasoning the patties before freeze drying them? Have you tried that since you made this video and if so, how did it turn out?
Hidy Toad! Not tried on Pattie’s but I’ll say the rotisserie chicken that was season is fantastic. Don’t see why it would be different. Happy freeze drying!
Hidy Cinnamon Girl. These were Black Angus beef, very low fat content and yes lean meat is better. We use venison on the egg casserole and it turned out great.
Depends on what you make! Veggies 25 years if packed well and correctly. Any meat with high fat content will be less. Lean meats 25 years if packed and stored correctly
Hi.. I have a couple of questions. Freeze dried hamburger patties sound great, but Im not a survivalists type. Im more into sailing and cruising, and cross country back packing. On the sailboat, I have been without refrigeration for 9 months and can food takes up a lot of room and gets fairly heavy. Not to mention the build up of rusting cans... at one point I started making hanging robots with fishing line and giving them away just to get rid of the cans. Will hamburger last longer then 6 months without refrigeration? Is the freeze dried hamburger lighter then canned stuff? Do I have to store it in a cool dry space which is not really an option on a boat with no airconditioning or refrigeration? How do you tell if they have gone bad? Also where is the best place to find them? Thanks in advance. ---Bill
Hi Bill! Great questions. Yes they are extremely light, should last several years on boat if packed correctly. They do not take up much room. I freeze dry my own and have put a link in description for your own machine, but it sounds like you just want to find the Pattie’s. If so, check out patriot supple or other freeze dried food stores online. Hope this helps
@@ntxg thanks. I am not skilled enough to risk freeze drying food... if were socks or shoe laces, Maybe i would try it. Lol. I kinda want to see how I like them first anyways. Thanks for the help. Hopefully I can try some in the next few weeks, and then if all goes well I an start learning to do my own. Lol.
@@ntxg it's under warranty but the process is a pain. Have to contact harvest right, speak to a technician, download log files, wait for a verdict, then wait for the part. Nice people but the shipping dept is a little slow.

@@tannenbaumgirl3100wow! What brought all this up? You come off very judgemental and you don't know what you're talking about. Why would you think that it's the needy who are freeze drying their food? Hmmm? My freeze dryer cost me $3,500 of my own wages. Not on any public assistance either. 🤷 We freeze dry because my husband is a hunter and I have a large garden. Why would I want a bunch of freezers and loss of produce (which last only a yr in a freezer)? I can make my food last 25 yrs in a freeze dryer.
These videos are really frustrating. You don't list the fat content in the beef. "Black angus Beef" is not a fat content. These patties will likely spoil in a few months time.

I was wondering how the run of raw meat turned out. I didn’t know you could freeze dry raw meat until you guys did it. That is awesome!

What was the fat content on the bergers? My husband says they need to be very lean to have a decent shelf life.

Once freeze dried, how do you store raw meat? Does it still need to be frozen?
No ma’am we store in Mylar with oxygen absorbers! Long shelf life!
