What an amazing, detailed yet concise description of the ins and outs of the race. Well done for getting it done and thanks for sharing this afterwards. You seem like a very organised planner, with a super crew/rock 👍🏻🏃♂️🙂
Just wanted to say thank you Elena. You brilliantly offered me(and I accepted) some life saving tang fastics in the middle of the night. I was desperately hungry and your food kept me going to I could find next but of food. Was a pleasure running with you for a short while. You had a great race and we weren't too far behind you at the end! Thank you!
Ed! This is what I love about ultras, sharing the trails, stories and sweets 😀 Thank you for your company and thanks so much for watching! Hope to share some miles with you during a race again someday 😊
Very smart and clever preparation. 0ver the years I've watched hundreds of ultra prep videos, and this is one of the best. Congratulations on your brilliant performance!
First time watched of one of your videos and I loved the blow by blow account of the race plus your prep and kit listings. Effective and honest video, without the razzmatazz, what a true reflection of an endurance event.
This has been amazingly helpful thanks. Huge congrats on your race. I followed your recce series. I decided to defer the 100 until 2024 on the basis that I didn't feel ready. I'm glad I did. I've entered the Classic Qtr as a recce also. Thanks for all the great tips.
Thanks Ian, really glad it was helpful! I loved the Classic Quarter and it was super helpful as a recce. Wishing you an epic Arc journey and experience!
Hey Elena...this was great. I was thinking with no race video it wouldn't be so awesome! I admire people who run 100 miles and record it but especially for your first it's got to be better to just settle in and enjoy the experience. I had never heard of foot maceration....hope the trench cream or whatever you try works. It was nice the weather was good for the time on the course. Also what a great result beating all of your expectations and finishing sub 29 hrs. The buckle looks pretty nice! Really enjoyed your video! Thank you.
Well done Elena. All the preparation paid off. I was so pleased that you managed to get round in such a good time. Loved following the recces. Hope you do another one soon. Take care.
Awesome video Elena! Managed to get a waiting-list entry for 2024 so found all the deets and info super helpful! You've also calmed my nerves about having a low milage training program. Congrats on the awesome performance 🔥
Huge congratulations. Great video. This is the first of your videos I watched. Would love if you could explore and detailed more the strength and conditioning work you are doing. Running the Arc is in my plans. Maybe next year? I'm running my first 100 miler in May, the Centurion's Thames Path 100, followed soon after by the SDW 100. Thank you very much for all the info and valuable details from your experience.
Thank Jorge! I'll have a look at covering my strength and conditioning training a bit more in my next lot of training videos 😀Glad that you are interested as it's one of my favourite bits of training 😀Have a great time on your Centurion Races, I hear Centurion put on excellent races!
This is gold - so loving your videos. Please keep making them as you embark on your next adventures. You have so much to offer - I would love to see more.
Elena Absolutely brilliant! I followed your videos and enjoyed them v much and this summary is an excellent conclusion to your Arc journey. I’m sorry I missed you on the day I’d certainly have spoken to you and thanked you for the help you gave. There were so many people and the nerves jangled and coming from Northern Ireland I didn’t know anyone so was in my little bubble pacing in the top Carpark, having a piddle every five minutes! Congratulations again on an amazing time and that gold buckle, fantastic! George
Hi George! I can totally understand! I felt quite overwhelmed at the start until a lovely little gang took me under their wing 😊Hope you enjoyed your Arc adventure and thanks so much for watching!
What a result Elena, managed to Dot watch you having found your recce videos prior to the event and yes, please keep the videos coming, great to watch your adventure unfold, thanks for sharing
Brilliant after action review of the Arc, so detailed. Superb running for the race. I managed to complete the 50 this year, will I be back for the 100? hopefully
Great listen that.... Enjoyed watching your videos leading up to our Arc50 experience.Pinpointed different parts at places I nearly went wrong at.Must ask also what portable charger you have for your Fenix?... Looking to get something similar for my first 100 all being well next year,Autumn 100.Very well done on your achievement with this, keep posting your videos and very best of luck with your future adventures.
Thanks for watching and hope you had a great time on your Arc 50 adventure! The charger I used was a freebie I got from a conference so not sure of the brand but it's capacity is 2200 mAh and looks to be one of these: www.personalisedpowerbank.co.uk/product/cuboid-metal-powerbank-blue/ Looks like Anker do one of a similar size but with 5000mAh so might be worth looking in to. Wishing you al the best for Autumn 100! 😀
Brilliant result! Trench is great. Super expensive for a small amount but it does the job v well. Sudacrem is basically the same stuff (zinc oxide) and a lot cheaper. I have the same BD poles and the same issue with the stuck nobbly bit. WD40 squirted in there solved that and I was able to use them no prob on Arc50 this year. Well done again, as you said, your prep and planning was top notch, makes a big difference. Do give the centurion races a go, they're fab.
Thanks Jonathan! Thanks for the tips! I ended up sanding the button to get some of the rust off and WD40 which has helped a bit so my BD poles haven't been completely retired :D Excited to have a go at a centurion race!
This was a brilliant report - thank you, as I really found your reckie vids useful for my own Arc. And YES, glad to hear someone else enjoy the boulder hopping - that section was my favourite of the course too!!
Brilliant Elena. Loved the recce videos and followed your dot along with a few others online over the course of the race. Massive well done. Will use your recce video in my prep for hopefully next years Arc50 and the full Arc the year after. Keep the running videos coming please, they're very good to watch. 👍👍👍👍👍🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Thanks so much Matt, it's so lovely to know that people were following along even at home. Hope the recce videos help in your prep! Enjoy your Arc journey, it's absolutely epic!!
Great video. Loved the recce vids too. And glad to hear you take some credit for yourself on a super result. Looking forward to more content.Thank you!
Glad you liked it and I love being a "bad influence"! 😂Would love to hear about your ultra experience if you do decide to give it a go! Thanks for watching!
Amazing report, especially as I'm considering entering this for the first time next year. Thanks so much for the detail. It really is worth while. I grew up in Gloucester (ref your Gloucester Canoe Club coffee cup), I live south now in Berkeley. Did you love the Leki poles then? I need to buy my first pair, how did you store them whilst running? Well done, I can't wait.
Glad you found it useful! I don't know Gloucester that well actually, I've just raced there a couple of times (kayaking) so the mug was a prize 😀What are the trails like near Berkeley? I absolutely LOVE the leki poles. I stow them at the back of my pack just using the bungie loops provided. Maybe a kit video is needed then 😊
Great watch Elena. I'm hoping to do the 100 next year so this was really useful. What was the foot care book called? I have tried waterproof socks on a long run... they were OK although quite thick so could do with a size up in trainers for them. Also, once you get water in them you end up having a foot soak until you empty them so not ideal if you are prone to feet issues. All the best!
Thanks Dom! The book is called Fixing your feet (uk.bookshop.org/p/books/fixing-your-feet-injury-prevention-and-treatment-for-athletes-john-vonhof/5968660?ean=9781643590639) Good point about water getting in waterproof socks! It's the reason I don't wear waterproof shoes! Wishing you all the best for the 100! Excited for you! 😀
Great report, a wealth of information for prospective future entrants. Also nice to see that all of the preparation you put in led to a wonderful result. Huge congratulations!
What a great video (& result 👏), really helpful and informative for possibly entering in the future (will see how the SDW100 goes in the summer first!)
@@elenaoutdoors Yes, the Black RAT this August - it'll be my first proper Ultra. I'm worried about the Cornish Coastal Terrain! I lived in Cornwall many years ago, but wasn't a runner then. I'm now living on Wilts/Dorset border so planning some coastal training locally. Any tips?
@@jacquelineainsley Oh fab! I'm sure your local coastal trails will be great prep 😀I think any kind of strength training is helpful for the ups and downs but I think the main thing is to focus on enjoying it. Coastal ultras are just so beautiful!!
Loved your recce videos. With waterproof socks they can actually cause the same issue with perspiration I use climbing chalk not talc and consider switching between waterproof socks and breathable ones. Congratulations on the epic time
Thanks Daniel, really glad you enjoyed them 😀Yes, this is what has put me off trying waterproof socks before. That's a great suggestion about alternating the socks, I'll give that a go, as well as the climbing chalk.
Brilliant race report, so pleased for your incredible result! You put in the work and reaped the rewards ☺️ you mentioned the peregrines feeling narrow, I buy them in a men’s fit as they come up a little wider. So if you like the shoe overall maybe give that a try
What an amazing, detailed yet concise description of the ins and outs of the race. Well done for getting it done and thanks for sharing this afterwards. You seem like a very organised planner, with a super crew/rock 👍🏻🏃♂️🙂
Thanks Mark! I do love the planning part of ultras 😀
Extremely helpful race report. Thank you so much for sharing. Huge congratulations on your amazing achievement!
Glad it was helpful! I need to get this year's report out soon! :D Thanks for watching!
🤔 congratulations on a brilliant run, a great achievement to get under 30hrs

I’m really interested in your approach to the training which is just not purely based on running volume. I’d like to hear more about this.
