I agree completely, I drive a Jeep Cherokee XJ.... It's unibody means it doesn't have low hanging frame like Wranglers off road and means it weighs 500-1,000 lbs less then its competition(Blazer, Rodeo, Explorer, Etc.). But I am helping my mom pick out a Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V, it fits everything she needs.
Haha, hey good first drive guys! It was cool watching you guys be so close to my home town (Hollister, CA), kinda surprised me but in a good way. The new Escape is phenomenal!
I'm saddened to see this look like a cross-over. I have the 2010 model and love the body style on it. When I got a new one I was going to get another Escape, but I won't be now :(
This is what I am talking about! P.s. I drove a rental 2011 Ford escape this weekend and I was embarrassed to be seen in it! This new one I wouldn't mind so much... Great review guys..
I'm glad to see that Ford, (much like Hyundai, Kia, Chrysler, and Subaru) have recently started to step up their game. The American auto industries can be as good as their European and Asian rivals-they just have to put the effort in. Way to go Ford! Also, guys, as always, a great review.
Good question. Yes, they are similar as they are geared more for on-road performance than off-road ability. Both systems can enhance performance by shifting power right and left depending on which wheel will benefit the most aiding traction. So, unlike a regular AWD system that shifts power just to the wheels that grip, this system also sends power to the wheel that will help the vehicle round a corner. Thanks for watching!
can you tell me a little about the 4wd system on these? is it off-road worthy? Also, does it have a switchable transfer case (mud/snow mode) as well as a two-speed t-case? Always like your reviews; you actually always know something about the car itself instead of just mentioning that it has leather seats and a gps like other reviewers tend to do.
That's a great question and we hope Ford sends us a Escape to test in Rocky Mountain snow. The AWD system works great on the road... and that's all. We'll give it a full review when it comes our way. Thanks for watching!
I am a bit disappointed in the 0-60. Instrumented testing and a professional driver may yield slightly better results, but I expected around 7 sec with 240 hp in such a vehicle. Is the extra power worth not buying the CX-5?
11 years later I still own one of the updated design 2017 Escapes. While I liked the interior of the 2013-16 models that unbalanced front grill appearance on them never really worked for me. 2017-19 models were the go to years for these Ford Escapes in my opinion and then the design fell off a cliff with the 2020 onwards models. I wouldn’t even remotely consider buying a new one which is now basically a car in most aspects.
It gets expensive when you check all options but it's also true neither of the competition has all the options Escape has available, if you get a Escape with the same options as a CR-V, RAV4, Sportage you'll likely get almost the same price
Well if you want the driving dynamics of a car and the practicality of an SUV in a clean and nice looking package then crossover fits the bill. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
I've been going back and forth on the styling on this. I haven't yet seen one in the real world, but in some of the videos and angles it looks good and in others it looks less interesting. Can't beat the fuel economy rating, though.
My guess is it's not going to do all that well. It turns off after the vehicle hits 25 miles per hour. Just like Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, and most other car companies Fords system doesn't divert enough torque to the rear wheels to move the vehicle if the front wheels have 0 traction. Subaru and Audi have the only "true" AWD systems.
Yeah, what i'd like about the Escape withe the 3.5TT would be how much lighter it is compared to the explorer, would definitely be a sleeper (for an SUV) well, this escape is more a crossover than anything now but still. Would have much rather seen the 3.5 Ecoboost in the Edge over Explorer for sure.
To my knowledge, all the recalls pertaining to the New Escape is limited to the 1.6 EcoBoost engine. The 2.0 EcoBoost is a badass engine. I will not opt for the 1.6, no no no.
Who says the ecoboost has been rated as the best engine? Hyundai put 2.0T in the 2013 Santa Fe, which is the size of the Edge. The Santa fe gets 31mpg highway and puts out 264hp. The ecoboost gets much less hp, and just a bit less mpg than the 2.0T that Hyundai uses. You know what's the funny thing? Santa fe 2.0T gets 264hp(reg fuel), 31mpg hwy, and the Ford escape 2.4L gets 170hp, 31mpg hwy. 2.0 Ecoboost? 230hp(reg fuel), 30mpg hwy. The escape is a smaller suv. The engine isn't impressive.
If you ever get a chance to drive a range rover evoque, u will understand why this same 2.0 ecoboost is rated #1 by nearly every automotive journalist.
@MercuryMorrison1 Well cars became more popular and fuel efficient and all u need is a new body , to be honest , how many people need a big body-on-frame SUV now ?
as if you even own a car. I'm sorry, but this car has been recalled THREE times in less than 2 months. One recall has to do with engine cylinder catching a fire. Besides, Santa fe has the Sonata 2.0T engine, which actually puts out 274hp w/ regular fuel at the Escape's size. If 34 hp seems like a joke to you, it tells me you've never done anything with a car before.
@soyntgo4it Ya thanks and I did. There isn't much information out there suggesting that it's much different from the old system. If you know of a web site that explains the details of the new system I'll gladly read up on it. I looked around however and didn't find much.
u do realize this car was recalled because it can turn it self on fire due to overheating turbo.. Japanese cars r cheap but they are far more reliable than all other cars... i would pick German if possible....
personally, i prefer the boxy shape of SUVs. My family owns a 2008 ford escape that has V6 240HP. on avg it gets 18.4MPG. It's great in the snow with the AWD. but I don't like this new escape.
I wanted to like the new escape...I guess there would be a polarizing response to the interior...The front area envelopes yo, some may like it others may feel claustrophobic...Personally I didn't like it...Visibility isn't very good as the side windows start up high...The center console cramps your knees and I'm on the shorter side..And while the interior looks futuristic it has a very cheap plastic feel and look to it and it looks like it will look dated in a couple of years...
Fords AWD system needs work. The concept of using only the front wheels as drive wheels until the rear wheels are needed is good. It's too bad Ford doesn't divert enough torque to the rear wheels to move the vehicle if the front wheels are on ice. It's also a bit foolish that the AWD system only works up to 25 miles per hour. I have news for you Ford a vehicle can slip going faster than 25.
2013 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost 240 @ 5500 (premium fuel) 231 @ 5500 (regular fuel) yes, from regular to premium fuel, you can see about 10-15hp gain. You just need to stop talking. I'm sure your parents have taught you better than that.
COME ON!..the ecobbost has been rated as the best engine.not everything is about the numbers of cylinders it has...if wthas importantant to u is power. this 2.0 t smokes the v6 previous version in a race. it has more torque same hp for better fuel economy...look at the 3.5 ecoboost f 150...it smokes the v8...and thats with out saying the turbo gives u the oportunity to not lose hps as u go to higher elevated citys. here where i live cars lose 30% of the hp if there is no turbo. BOGOTA 8400 FT

there´s something in the front that reminds me the old kia sportage and from the side a think looks like the hyundai tucson
Haha, hey good first drive guys! It was cool watching you guys be so close to my home town (Hollister, CA), kinda surprised me but in a good way. The new Escape is phenomenal!

These guys were meant for each other! :p
Good question. Yes, they are similar as they are geared more for on-road performance than off-road ability. So glad they are bringing the LED light designs into the headlamps
Nice vehicle, a good variety of engines from fuel efficient to really powerful, modern looks, and good tech.
How would you compare the handling between this and the CX-5 as far as sportiness is concerned?
Ford's aren't cheap in here, but still they sells very well.
Simply good cars.
Very nice crossover with good engines, I like it!
I very like yours reviews.
Yes, it's available for everything except for the base-level 2.5-liter.
can you tell me a little about the 4wd system on these? is it off-road worthy? Also, does it have a switchable transfer case (mud/snow mode) as well as a two-speed t-case? Always like your reviews; you actually always know something about the car itself instead of just mentioning that it has leather seats and a gps like other reviewers tend to do.
So, how's i going to handle snow? Looks nice on bright sunny days and dry pavement... need traction in the NE.
Does the AWD system feel better than the Mazda CX-5's on road?
Epic finish to a great review!
That's a great question and we hope Ford sends us a Escape to test in Rocky Mountain snow. The AWD system works great on the road... and that's all. We'll give it a full review when it comes our way. Thanks for watching!

2.0L Ecoboost is a single turbo ;)
2.0 and 1.6 ecoboost are single turbos btw
Love your reviews guys. Nicely done and a good looking small SUV from Ford! Curious about the mpg.
Im going for the Escape! with the 2.0 Eco Boost! plus Ford is offering great rebates!
Honey I blew up a Focus!

6:15 Roman is laughing like a happy bride! You guys are too funny :D
Roman, do you plan on taking the Escape on your off-road test?
MSRP is pretty much the same as the current Escape. Just doesn't have any big rebates at the moment.

Light years ahead of the old design. Good job Ford.
golf=tiguan
focus=escape, now thats original.
is the titanium FWD or AWD?
@shutittwat I wonder if there's like a safety feature where if it hits something on the way down it goes back up , I would sure hope so
does Roman fit?
The 2.0L ecoboost has 2 turbochargers? (ref 2:16)
Way way way better looking than the old Escape. Like night and day.
nice review!
how would you rank the suv togeter like the mazda cx5 the honda crv and ford escape
Ford escape or Mazda cx5. I personally like the way the escape looks more but Im still not sure.
Nice! And Nathan fits!
Would love to see this compared to the CX-5.
Wow. Nathan can lift and carry Roman around. Remind me not to piss him off...
he says that its 8.6 seconds to 100 but it will run cirlces around the competition?
nicely done... keep it up.
I call it the solution to the "station wagon" stigma... basically that's what this thing really is.
@Tenzinpelha I totally agree with u. The last model is better than this new one
This car smokes the CX5. CX 5 was rated over 13 seconds, same two big guys in it.
Compared to what?
Ford escape have good look, better than most of this class , I think this one of the Great design for Ford
Yeah, what i'd like about the Escape withe the 3.5TT would be how much lighter it is compared to the explorer, would definitely be a sleeper (for an SUV) well, this escape is more a crossover than anything now but still. looks like a huge focus. not sure im a fan of it yet

I'm thinking of this or the Subaru XV Crosstek.
If you ever get a chance to drive a range rover evoque, u will understand why this same 2.0 ecoboost is rated #1 by nearly every automotive journalist.
Yes but they where also a mile above sea level.
its better looking than the cx5 nuff said
@MercuryMorrison1 Well cars became more popular and fuel efficient and all u need is a new body , to be honest , how many people need a big body-on-frame SUV now ?
im sorry, but this car looks amazing! it would look perfect next to my dads 1999 ford contour
Thats funny ! i just bought mine on black friday and there are NO current recalls!
why is it so expensive?
as if you even own a car. I'm sorry, but this car has been recalled THREE times in less than 2 months. One recall has to do with engine cylinder catching a fire. Hmmm... I 'd go for the Ford Edge ....
this should be how the Ford Explorer design should be like
It's kinda different looking. And in this case, that's not a bad thing.
I like it and i am thinking about getting one when I sell my motorcycle after this up coming deployment I love Ford
@soyntgo4it Ya thanks and I did. There isn't much information out there suggesting that it's much different from the old system. If you know of a web site that explains the details of the new system I'll gladly read up on it. I looked around however and didn't find much.
Funny video guys and I like the car.... sorry old Ford fan lol
the cx-5 needs this ecoboost motor!
u do realize this car was recalled because it can turn it self on fire due to overheating turbo.. Japanese cars r cheap but they are far more reliable than all other cars... i would pick German if possible....
yes!
Just imagine if that thing had the 3.5L Twin Turbo. Oh lord :D

the expediton is one of the last

it's called the expedition
2013 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost
240 @ 5500 (premium fuel)
231 @ 5500 (regular fuel)
yes, from regular to premium fuel, you can see about 10-15hp gain. You just need to stop talking. I'm sure your parents have taught you better than that.
stay away, hes got it
What's happening to the american SUV'S
They make a cute couple. "Nathan is a strong man"
This new escape is $W@G but I miss the 04 it was awesome
Yes the ones being replaced seemed like a girls suv. too short .. just my opinion. Inside they were ok. I made sure I told people it was a rental.
not sure if i like it
It's just one giant Focus
Either the freezes were intentional or my video froze three times in like 20 seconds.
Good fun!
It is my favorite car.
1:34 apparently Ford doesn't care about that segment any longer...
Definitely a gangsta's car.
the previous generation is/was way more handsome. i love the interior but the nose is too focus related.
you realize this escape has had like 3 recalls already right?
COME ON!..the ecobbost has been rated as the best engine.not everything is about the numbers of cylinders it has...if wthas importantant to u is power. this 2.0 t smokes the v6 previous version in a race. it has more torque same hp for better fuel economy...look at the 3.5 ecoboost f 150...it smokes the v8...and thats with out saying the turbo gives u the oportunity to not lose hps as u go to higher elevated citys. here where i live cars lose 30% of the hp if there is no turbo. BOGOTA 8400 FT
they need to get rid of that cheesy pep boys fender vent
styling wise i think i like the CX-5 a bit better
That doesn't necessarily make it a better car. Speed is not everything in the big picture.
Sooo basicaly its a Ford Focus crossover???
Lol VW's hands free lift gate.... The CX5 is probably the better vehicle. Love Ford's attempt tho, the Kuga was way out of the old Escape's league
people who liked the truck version go buy a truck, trust me if u sit in the new one you will have forgotten about the old one already
