180 million barrels of oil have been extracted from this salt dome deposit from 1908-1984 That's 7.5 billion gallons or 1 billion cubic feet. That is equivalent to a cube measuring approximately 3 football fields wide by 3 football fields long by 3 football fields tall. The area of the salt dome is approximately 77 million square feet. That means that on average, the town of Daisetta has an approximately 13 foot void across the entire expanse of the town, which is 3 miles wide. Of course, that's assuming that water hasn't replaced any of the oil's space, which it probably has. Also doesn't take into account the dissolution of the salt. Crazy to think of the sheer volume though... P.S. I'm a geologist.
And good old oil and gas is no where to be found. Because the companies defile the environment change their name and take off! Leaving the town to be screwed! Exactly the reason Regulations on these industries is Not a bad thing!!!
Bet some corporation with government by their side was or did many years ago do a lot of salt mining. Never told anyone who purchased land or had own land for generations they were digging a gigantic crater under their entire farm/home. They said nothing or lied because you know they were not following the law, endangering people and a huge list of all things bad.
1.) Salt mining doesn't work like that. It's not liquid, but solid rock. You'd have to hide an enormous quarry, and the idea of somehow secretly mining out an enormous cavity deep under a town is ridiculous. You have no idea what you're talking about. 2.) I don't really understand why you're completely ignoring the fact the sinkhole appeared over a former oil well. Extracting oil left a cavity, which is what created the sinkhole. There is no conspiracy. The reasons behind this are already public knowledge.
Sink holes are my number one fear. Unpredictable and terrifyingly destructive
Seems as scary as a earthquake
democrat voters should be your number 1 fear. they are the most destructive thing in the universe.

So you say
The Earth is taking it's land back
Maybe they shouldn’t have been drilling oil on that land since 1950. Apparently it hollowed out the ground. Now you have a sinkhole.
GROWN 150 FEET in the last few DAYS? Id b gettin the heck OUTTA there!!
Lauren, it is so nice to listen to a professional reporter. What a beautiful lady as well.

They should be more worried about the sinkhole in the Government.
The earth ate my homework
I love how they start off with that humans were dumping waste there forever then something bad happens lol. And now it's some mystery smh
reporter is really pretty :)
I've thought about how much oil we take out of the ground. Implosion is the word that comes to mind.
