  • Even though this didn’t turn out as imagined (shocker), it’s really really pretty!! Colors used were Brea Reese magenta, ultramarine, violet, turquoise, & white.
    Here are amazon affiliate links for some of what I used in this video. 😁
    Brea reese inks:
    Purple single amzn.to/2SsqpJw
    Turquoise/Magenta/Orange Set amzn.to/2QdpR7U
    Cadmium red/cadmium yellow/Ultramarine set amzn.to/2roWbwb
    Envirotex Epoxy (I usually buy this at Michaels with a coupon, but is often similarly priced on Amazon)
    Gallon kit amzn.to/2MpmoBS
    32 ounce kit amzn.to/2Qdoaay
    16 ounce kit amzn.to/399KJWg
    Heat gun

    This is beautiful, I am thinking of doing a green base coat and dropping inks black, brown and tan and see if I can get a camo look.

      Alissa Perry I’ve had to do a couple layers to get inks to not blend. I hydrodipped red/white/black. It might be easier than inks since the white can turn gray and the red can turn pink.

    When you first added the white, it looked like jellyfish. So beautiful. Anyway to make it stay like that?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  3 роки тому +1

      I wish I could freeze the epoxy when it got where I wanted! The only way I can think to even remotely keep it close to the same is to cool it off as fast as possible. I’ve held a cup in front of my ac to cool quickly when the epoxy was hot and runny before. Temp changes like that can cause ripples in the epoxy, but it would be fairly easy to recover on the next layer of epoxy.

    • @christinestafford2089

    • @ThePurpleStitch

      Most of the time just one more layer of epoxy to seal it in. Two if I’m doing vinyl.

    What else can I use besides epoxy resin to let the alcohol inks flow? I have found that even with an N95 mask, a tight face mask and lots of ventilation, my arm and face, eyes, and ears swell up and break out. So obviously, this is something I can no longer do. What else can I use?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  3 роки тому

      I’m honestly not sure on that. Crystalac goes on thin and is the usual epoxy alternative.

    I just have a question. I'm new at making tumblers and the last two I have made end up with a bubble of epoxy on the bottom. I made a 12oz and a 30oz. On the 30 I use 20ml of epoxy. And it is fine when I'm making them and they are spinning all night but when I turn them off in the morning it has the bubble. How do I stop getting the bubble?

    • @ThePurpleStitch

      It sounds like your cup isn’t level. It could be the turner itself or how the cup is on there. To check for level, set something taller at the end of the cup. The flat end/bottom should be completely vertical level to the taller item (spray paint cans are perfect). The cup should not be level horizontally. I hope that makes sense! 😁

      Weeeeellllll, this is an old video......I’ve switch to nitrile since this time of my journey. I only had issues when I was doing multiple cups at once. I really didn’t have issues with vinyl for a long time. I wasn’t aware that they were a poor choice for a long time.

    • @ThePurpleStitch

      Tracey DeCoste stirring with a metal stick instead of wooden seems to help a lot. Also, the parts being warmer is a big help. When I’ve poured it on, I torch it. Not on the ink layers, but on other coats.

    • @traceydecoste1580
      @traceydecoste1580 4 роки тому

      The Purple Stitch great thanks so much!! Do I heat up both parts of the epoxy separately ? I heard that using a candle warmer works well but I haven’t tried it yet. How long do I heat it up for? How long should I stir for?? TIA!!

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому +1

      Tracey DeCoste I cant really give you a time or temp suggestion since all epoxy will be different. Be careful heating it on an element, I use a shop light in the winter. Close enough to do the trick, but too close will cause too much heat and can make it cure faster than usual. I stir until I have completely clear epoxy. Any oily looking strands/spots are parts not mixed completely.

    I use Faux Rizzle epoxy and when I mix it it’s always a little cloudy and tons of micro bubbles .. I stir slowly and mix equal parts A & B. What can I do to get the epoxy come out clear with no bubbles?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому

      have you tried warming them a bit before pouring/mixing? I have zero experience with this brand.

    • @traceydecoste1580
      @traceydecoste1580 4 роки тому

      The Purple Stitch yes, on my very 1st attempt using epoxy I mixed part A and part B separately in small cups stirred them for 3 mins each then used the heat gun for like 30 seconds to a minute and all it did was make the epoxy thicker and harder to work with.
      I was told by someone on one of the tumbler sites to try using a candle warmer I haven’t tried it yet but I’m planning on it. I’m a little nervous about using a candle warmer not sure if I’m supposed to heat them both up or just the hardener? And for how long??
      Thanks again for your advice.

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому

      Tracey DeCoste if it got thick fast, it was starting to cure. I use a shop light for heat. It’s indirect. I’m not familiar with that brand, but I’m confused on why it would require stirring them separately. That could be part of the bubble problem...?

    How can I make dark tumbler with a lettered label ?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому

      If the vinyl/decal you want to use is also dark, you could do an offset of a lighter color to make it pop. That’s where there’s a slightly larger outline of the same shape under it.

      The Purple Stitch I think it’s Amazing how the inks run into each other and create nice designs colors. I seen other people do what you did with the white but I don’t know what happen it just stayed white on the cup it did not run into the other color. but you nailed it 100%. Who ever you made that cup for is going to be one very happy person

      The inks typically won’t show up otherwise. There may be some inks out there that act more like a tempera (not sure I got that right) paint pigmentation. But I haven’t stumbled across any yet.

    Hi, I think your stuff is amazing! I had a few questions... My epoxy keeps getting defects, uneven spots and pitting also how many total layers and do you sand in between layers, how do you prep before your top coat? I tried to find you on Instagram so I could show you what I’m talking about but couldn’t, could you send me your IG please. Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому +1

      Hi there! Some of the defects could be lint in the air. I’ve seen some people put a Rubbermaid tote over the cup and turner. The pits or fish eyes can possibly be from oily spots on the cup before epoxy. Sometimes it’s from overheating. I had to add TX to my tag on Instagram, and I’ll be honest that I’m insta-illiterate 😬. I also have a Facebook page that you can message me on. It’s facebook.com/thepurplestitch and you can just click message. Hope that’s a little helpful and you can definitely send a message if that didn’t help. 😁 I’m not an expert by any stretch but I make lots of mistakes that I learn from! 😆
