    If Shia was going to ask me there on the spot what my favorite movie was i wouldn't be able to tell him. It always depends on who I am that particular moment when i desire to watch a film. Might sound a bit multiple personality disorder but I watch a movie for, like how Shia describes it, how that secret will affect me as i watch it unravel again.

      @@badado that's like saying I adopted 1 dog, so I've ignored all the other dogs. Or I volunteered at a homeless shelter, so I've ignored all the other homeless shelters. You realize that if he opened it up to all of LA county, the masterclass wouldn't have been nearly as beneficial. All those people are getting an intimate, close up experience and instruction from a critically-acclaimed actor, something they would not have access to unless they were incredibly wealthy or somehow incredibly lucky.

    • @badado
      @badado 2 роки тому

      @@joshgarcia2558 No that isnt the same thing im saying.
      Ultimately what im getting at to allow a space limit per semester or season as other inner city programs do, and leave opportunity open to at least submit application and fulfil certain requirements financial need, and via essay for reason of pursuit and interview and audition. Rather than open by virtue of being solely residents of South Central. You can still control the amount of occupancy of a chosen class by who within larger pool of Los Angeles COUNTY of the best and most passionate and serious students make it by selecting the best 50 applicants whose Auditions, applications and essays of say 500 that would hypothetically enter the program. This works to ensure that everyone there is serious about it as a potential career and not wasting space to be one of those " i live here but wanna just try something new for sake of becoming famous types" or doing it to just look cool and feel busy. I say all this because i myself. Was apart of a program for innercity kids that selected 30-50 people each summer for a full ride of learning film each year. And it to this day has worked really well. Besides healthy competitiveness breeds desire for each student to learn from a pro like Shia and also pick their game up amongst eachother.
      To not have it this way and only those that get in by zip code then you run risk of getting half the class full of dedicated humble grateful actors willing to hone thier craft and the other half of people that bring the intention of program down along with quality of work that can be created due to their lack of motivation or dedication. If just anyone can get into a group or program than of what quality or legacy does that group have.

      Every film revolves around empathy. The reason you enjoyed a movie is that the gap between viewer and character was dissolved and you felt connected to the character's experiences. There are a myriad of ways to do this, all of which have to do with getting the audience to care about the character. Shia is articulating that the way to get the audience to care about the character and build empathy revolves around a personal secret they hold.
