      It's because of the square/cube ratio. Larger bodies are less susceptible to heat loss because they have a smaller surface area to volume ratio.

    • @HydraulicPressChannel
      @HydraulicPressChannel 7 років тому +2

      When things, for example humans, got larger their surface area grows in scale^2 and volume scale^3. So larger things, for example humans have more mass compared to surface are and therefore also probably more heat energy produced per cm^2 of surface to dissipate it. Actually one of my favorite Finnish sentences is "yhden muotoisten avaruuskappaleiden tilavuuksien suhde on mittakaavaan kuutio " which tels the volume part of this. I like it since it sound really complicated but describes quite simple thing.

    Hopefully, you can create a snowball launcher that can reach 50 meters or more hat also includes a way to easily make the snowballs.
    Also, maybe a comparison video of homemade metal crossbow bolts vs improvised wooden ones if they are viable ammunition

I actually posted my crappy basic idea for it in your fourm a few years ago and you gave me feedback on the pivot point of the trigger mechinism but i never did know how to change it. Im so glad you moved forward with the idea and improved it and i really hope you can produce the final product soon. All the best 👍🏼

    Have you thought about increasing the power stroke and making the whole platform a bit larger? Would possibly make it even more viable as a self defense weapon.
    On one side of the cocking lever, you could make a large knob like the bolt on a rifle, and a grip at the front to hold and pull back cocking lever. That way you wouldn't have to set it down on the ground to cock it every time.
    Great video as usual. Love seeing your stuff!

The bottom swings out for easy loading and since it uses a steel leaf spring it won’t as easily weaken as say a coil spring design. That’s just my two pfennigs. Great work, Joerg! Now here is a challenge for you. Please could you make a rubber or air powered thermite launcher, to fire thermite bolts or canisters that ignite on impact, with as long a range as possible as fired over or against the shoulder. You might enjoy the work of Colin Furze in this field of research. His thermite launcher is way too complicated, and I am sure you could figure a simpler solution. There are people fighting for freedom in the world who would appreciate such a concept.

    I'm. look at that commercial crossbow and it seems like you could attach a shoulder stock and work out a cocking method like a martini henry rifle, using a long lever under the stock. It would increase the stability of the crossbow and with a longer lever allow for a more powerful prod, I would say it'd be at its best with a bottom feeding magazine as seen on your design though.

    Just a thought.

  • @Tom-Lahaye
    @Tom-Lahaye 7 років тому

    These Lego shooter impacts still sound powerful enough to be painfull.
    Remember from when I was a kid I made a crossbow from Fischer Technik which could shoot a bolt made from a piece of model railroad track rails almost trough 20mm of particle board (happened to be my wardrobe, mum was pissed).
    But where I stopped making such contraptions when I grew up Joerg luckilly didn't!

    With a particular draw weight and acceleration acceleration distance, there must be a "sweet spot" for how much mass to use in order to maximize the carnage of the weapon. It would be interesting to see some math on that, and right up your channel's alley.
