Yeah that was crazy! I could not believe I survived that start from them. It took a series of perfect draws to get out of it. This deck is so fun! Thanks for subscribing!
*** Spoilers Below *** So I advanced to the Qualifier Weekend (I'm gonna play best-of-one Timeless again) and now I need to decide what to play. Obviously Colorless Superfriends is a strong contender, but I might switch things up. I was thinking about GB Elves, but I'm worried about RW Energy now packing Goblin Bombardment. Another one I'm considering is Abzan Birthing Ritual Scam. Basically I'm trying to play something that has a chance verses strong aggro decks like Energy while also being able to handle fast combos like SnT/Storm/Belcher. What do you think?
Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah it's especially fun to do well with your own creation. This strategy was somewhat middling for a while until I started playing Chalice AND it also benefitted a lot from recent sets. Some key stuff is from BLB, OTJ, and MH3.
Hey thanks! Yeah it's such a sweet deck, I am eager to play it more. I think you might be right about the subs, this vid has gotten a lot more attention than my last few lol. Though part of that may be because of this being like the first time Timeless has been the featured format for this event.
Thanks! Yeah MH3 was tough to collect. I draft to build my collection and had my worst win rate in MH3, the set where I needed the most stuff! lol Good luck grinding out those wildcards!
Yes! You solved it lol! Yeah I've already had a few people mention trying it out in Historic. The only difference is that The One Ring is nerfed there, but I assume the deck would still be decent. I just play Timeless so I don't know what the Historic metagame looks like though.
@priorityholder For big mana deck nerfed One Ring is not as clunky. It used to be that there is a lot of wizards, but Chalice on 1 with Ugin's land should be game over. I had spare wild cards so I'm trying it out. Deck is definitely not brain dead.
@@RadicalSpikee Yeah I also think a nerfed Ring shouldn't be an issue. And Chalice X=1 is just so incredibly potent, it's honestly underplayed, so dang strong. Good luck trying it out! It is unfortunately very harsh on the wildcards lol
I've been playing Arena since Ravnica Allegiance so i accumulated plenty of cards and WC, I had to get just 3 Mythics and 7 Rares. Life looks wonderful when you get Chalice on 1, sadly it rarely happens:( I'm awful with the deck but seeing your gameplay there is huge room for improvement, especially since I never played Artifact deck before. @priorityholder
That is the question! I feel really good about most of this deck's matchups in Timeless currently, except SnT. Chalice is so strong against many decks, but SnT doesn't really care about it. It might be possible to cut the 6 MV Ugins and some other stuff for potent artifacts like Meteor Golem or God Pharoah's statue that you can drop into play off SnT. I'm considering using a different deck for the next round that has a better SnT matchup. The problem is finding something that can handle Energy AND Combo decks. I haven't seen the land-based Omniscience deck yet (I'm assuming Shifting Woodland?), but this deck could just load up on Field of Ruins if that deck got very popular.
Just wondering how you deal with two Devours in hand. Do you fire off both to find Chalice or Labyrinth? Or just the one if you don’t really need to dig 8 cards deep?
Great question! With multiple Devourers I'd always use all of them. Early Chalices are just that potent that I'd aggressively fish for either Chalice or Labyrinth. Sometimes the opponent's Companion can inform you if you should top a second copy of Chalice if you think a Thoughtseize/Grief is incoming. With solo opening Devourer I routinely exile all 4 cards, so getting another shot at setting up your draw is great!
So I just play best of one, so take the following with that in mind. I've found control and midrange to be good matchups and aggro and combo to medium to bad. If you can get an early Chalice X=1 against aggro and Dark Ritual combos then you're feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, SnT is not a good matchup since they don't really care about Chalice X=1 OR X=2. In the main deck I'm actually -2 Buried Ruin +2 Blast Zone at the moment since BZ is so potent against aggro. So as far as the rest of the Sideboard, the question is do you want to make your strong matchups stronger? Or you weak ones a bit better? Torpor Orb is good against Guide of Souls and Amped Raptor. Unlicensed Hearse could be good anti-graveyard tech. More than anything, you need to pray your opponents don't have Meltdown in their Sideboards lol I've been trying to solve the problem of things to dump into play off SnT that can swing the matchup. I've considered: Platinum Angel (can tuck under Labyrinth, but not useful in other matchups), Meteor Golem (also tucks under Labyrinth, more useful in other matchups), God-Pharoah's Statue (might only buy you a turn, doesn't tuck under Labyrinth), and Disrupter Flute (easier to cast, might have usefulness in other matchups, might only buy you a turn). There's also stuff like Damping Sphere and Thorn of Amethyst, but those both hurt this deck as well... Basically I haven't found a great option yet. Not only that, but you'd have to be running quite a few of these haymakers to have them in hand often enough AND to power through their Thoughtseizes. So, this deck might just ultimately be best when you don't expect a lot of SnT in the field. In fact, I'm currently trying to estimate how much of the field will be on SnT for the Qualifier, because I might play something else.
@@priorityholder I'm playing 2 Vexing Bauble and 3 mana drain in the main only vs ShowNTell but I'm having hard times with the mana base since we want Fountains, Mutavault and Labyrinth.
@@lucianodalli3939 Love the idea of powering out spells with Mana Drain, but is 10 sources + 2 filter lands enough for double blue pips? Also, if you go the Mana Drain route, don't you want all 4? Just thinking out loud. Another thing is that this deck is a "tap out" deck. Outside of Kozilek's Command, we can't often profitably hold up mana. Not that things can't be tweaked to push more in that direction though. But I think you're on the money with Vexing Bauble. I initially overlooked it since it's 1 MV, but I think it's needed to have a fighting chance against SnT. Also helps that it stops Grief and Amped Raptor's cascade. I'm actually testing out 4 copies main. If you're looking for more slots, I've since cut both copies of Ugin the Ineffable. It's not bad, but it's expensive to cast AND it doesn't tuck under Labyrinth. For the extra Sideboard slots, just pointing out Weathered Runestone and Sorcerous Spyglass as functional equivalents to Cage and Needle that don't get got by X=1 Chalice. Maybe the mana efficiency is worth it though or maybe Chalice is getting sided out when those come in. How's your Wildcard situation? Crafting a deck like this is no joke lol
Pretty good play explanation! Cool brew.
Hey thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Sick deck; sick run; sub earned. Can't wait to see more
Thanks, I appreciate it! Hopefully the good fortune continues! I've got some more silly deck ideas coming soon lol
Love the opening haha. Congrats!
Thanks! That movie is a gold mine for quotes lol
Bonus video this week! Did any of those decks in my folder catch your eye?
Game 4 was amazing. Subscribed!

Nice Video! Like the Deck and the commentary. Keep it going :)
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the encouragement! I just played some more ridiculous games with it that I'm excited to share lol

I found solution for your bad matchap against Show'n'Tell, your deck is completely legal in HISTORIC:)

What’s the plan against show and tell or the land based omniscience deck? Thanks!

Any advice for a full Sideboard and a card that can be played when the opponent goes Show and Tell?

Given the stakes and it being more fresh on my mind I probably was more amped for this one lol.
