    I so enjoy your videos. Of course, I especially appreciate this one because the quilter you mentioned is my daughter. I am so proud of her. She works hard with her customer in an effort to make their journey a delight.

      As a very new quilter, for my first quilt, I decided to make twin bed quilts for my 2 boys. I finally finished a baby sized quilt from those blocks for my 3rd child. Lol

      I'm still working on a quilt I started when we were expecting our first child 37 yrs ago. Gulp! But I'm going to take your advice on 'no guilt' and persevere - it's all by hand too. "Wasted emotion" so true and thank you.

      I have been collecting shirts for a quilt, especially linen shirts for a linen quilt, for 25 years. Only after finding this channel did I find the missing puzzle piece: I had put them away washed, but I needed to remove the seams. Now my linen quilt and some pieced bags from shirts and beautiful many colored denim pants are underway! All I needed was to turn them into usable fabric Before putting them away! I keep sharing this story here and with IRL friends because it has made such a difference in my life and my quilting life. Such joy ✨

    Cathy, I really enjoyed your quilting story. It is interesting when you say "this shirt was perfect for quilt making". When I go to the thrift store I catch myself talking to me asking "I wonder if that would look good in a quilt" ?? You have the right mindset to think about the colors. I have a hard time with that. I think that is why I love scrappy quilts. Hope you have a GREAT week ahead !!! ❤❤❤❤❤

    Congratulations!!! It’s always so satisfying to take a quilty idea to the finish line. There was a day in the 1990s when I filed a ‘house’ quilt away because of an illness. Long ‘quilt story’ short, I finally finished it in 2024…label and all.

    Oh my, Cathy, you have a unique kind of quilting talent. I almost feel like I could pick out your quilts among a bevy of quilts. I have a feeling that pattern would be beautiful to flip it around and create it on a black background with white eyelets. It would look like “snowflakes” at night time. Hi Cathy!
    This was a great story about the journey of your Family’s Christmas Quilt…and it’s just the beginning! It would be a lovely addition to create a journal that can be passed on to future generations. You could begin with your story* that you shared today, and a new entry could be made when it is passed on to another family household.
    *Not necessarily written by you.
    Thank you and stay well!

    I absolutely love this quilt! Front and back with stripes💓💓💓💓 I have aUFO or two as well. Don’t we all.🤪 we all have life interruptions and we need to allow peace as much as possible. I too had melanoma on my arm at the same time my husband broke his neck… life happens. Currently I had cataract surgery and can’t see to sew. ☹️. But like you my head is spinning on what to work on next. Our roller coaster will probably continue but have fun on the journey and enjoy yourself and your family as you love all you can! 💓

    Love the Christmas quilt! I am a slow binder, but honestly I am a slow quilter. With the quilting, much of the slowness has to do with my being an overthinker! But that’s ok! Great job!

    • @TheCatBirdQuilts
      @TheCatBirdQuilts  Місяць тому +1

      I think "overthinking" has gotten a bad rap as of late---sometimes it's just thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Wanting to make a quilt that matches the vision in our heads is never a bad thing, in my opinion!❤️

I love your rendition! I’m so excited to know that Moda has a color swatch card! I previously purchased the Kona swatch card, but have found that every time I’m working with solids, i often end up with some Moda and some Kona, and i simply prefer the Moda… to the point I’ve decided not to buy Kona anymore if i can help it. I’m going yo locate and purchase that Moda swatch card. 😍 (I gave the Kona card to my local quilt shop)

    I did a baby quilt without a pattern, pieced the front, used a panel (first time) with borders on the back. And I realized it may be a challenge so I made sure they understood that if they didn’t think they could do it just let me know, that I would find the time to do it myself. They wanted to try so I let them have at it. Picked it up and the back was so off center. 😬 I didn’t say anything, came home and spent a couple days picking the entire thing out and ended up quilting it myself. To be fair, she is newer to long arming. She is the daughter in law to my regular long arm quilter who passed away last year. It’s definitely a learning process for us all.
