Why I never thought of this before, you are genius!! Now I will add an hour to my thrift store shopping. I love ginghams and plaids so I can't wait to see what I can find. Thank you.
I have a friend who says I'll end up getting bedbugs if I keep buying clothes & fabric at thrift stores. I told her she could only buy new things at a store that looks clean & still end up with a problem. Country of origin, time in storage & transit, type of transit, how many people have handled it before you, the hidden "dirty" secrets of any store, etc. can all add up to you getting a problem. I don't bring any soft goods into the apartment until they have been washed. They stay in the van, which is parked in the open parking lot with heat, humidity, freezing cold, etc. (Northern gal). I think I'm safe as is possible. But I do draw the line at mattresses & sofas/chairs/etc.
I have a decent stash of fabric already, but I'm learning that I can fill in any holes with men's shirts, especially the low-volume kind. I love your hauls! I have a thing for gingham too and buy it whenever I find it a thrift stores, but never thought to look at shirts. I love learning new things!
I agree! I fill in stash-gaps with shirts and vice versa! Thanks so much for watching and commenting; I'm glad you're enjoying the thrift hauls and that it's helpful to you! ❤️
I love your show and thrifting is a great place to shop, have looked at mens shirts for ever and now I have a real purpose to buy them. Thanks for your inspiration. A new quilter
Another wonderful video, great to see all the lovely fabrics you got from all those shirts, I will be looking in my local shops very soon to see if I can be that lucky, thanks so much for showing us....
Hey just found your videos and I love them . Also I live about 30 miles north of Birmingham toward Gadsden. Do not want to give my exact location . You are making me want to do crafts again.Stay safe, healthy and happy!!!! Love your sense of humor!!!!
Oh My!! You are so much fun!! I just discovered you and what a treat you are!! I have made a few quilts in the past, but now I’m thinking I might need to head to the thrift store, (which I loved visiting before COVID), and drum up some mens shirts!! My Nana was a prolific sewer, and she used to walk through clothing, & fabric bolts feeling all the cloth!! It wasn’t a conscious thing, but I somehow inherited that trait! I catch myself feeling fabric wherever I go…… 👔 👕 👚❤️😊
I would love to see some of your baby quilts made with the shirts. Thanks for these videos. I am hoping to make my friend a memory quilt from her husband’s dress shirts.
Those purples would make a lovely applique iris! You will want a gold piece for the bearding part of the iris and it will be stunning! The light green would be great for the stems of the iris, I am so visualizing this quilt! I like the brown shirt also, for autumn.
I never imagined using mens shirts! I've used old sheets and pillow cases for more traditional looking quilts and table covers. Thanks for some really great ideas!
Awesome thrift store finds, thanks for sharing. Love the ginghams as well but I am so intimidated by all the straight lines for quilting. (I made a baby quilt using thrift store woman’s cotton PJs, it surpassed expectations, got lucky with some really cute prints (w/o any lines to challenge me). But not so much yardage in women’s clothing compared to your “well dressed big and tall guys”.) Look forward to seeing your quilts!
Thank you! I have found, like you, that women’s clothing doesn’t offer as much yardage (and you have to deal with more seaming from darts and such.) I made a scrappy quilt with some ginghams and although not every square was perfectly straight, it was not obvious in the finished quilt. Maybe I’ll include some tips and tricks in an upcoming video! Thanks for you comment!
Excellent video- funny and informative! I learned a lot in short period of time. Will be visiting the thrift stores this week as I am collecting fabric for an upcoming quilting project with my mom.
I cut down shirts like the pink gingham and use them to make blouses from patterns. I also buy ladies' large shirts, and dresses, and I use sheets an awful lot to make skirts and all sorts of things. The thrift stores are super great for buying fabric for all kinds of clothing ideas as well as quilts.
Back in the 70s before I quilted I was working with a woman who did make quilts from shirts from Goodwill. In those days it was $.50 a shirt! I think that’s why it’s stuck in my head so much. Those were the days! I actually made a killing a few years ago on multiple short sleeve madras plaid shirts. I don’t know how much fabric I have on those but I’ll be using it to the last little thread. I got some beautiful linen shirts from a teacher at a private school. I purchased those at a neighborhood yard sale. If you look up quilts made from shirting on google - you will be amazed!!! I am anxiously awaiting part three etc. on taking the shirts apart. I actually store them by parts now meaning all the backs of the shirts are together, all the sleeves of the shirts are together etc. I don’t keep all the pieces of one shirt together necessarily. My mother was from Virginia but had relatives from further south and I still say one of her old sayings. When people say how are you doing I will say “fair to midling”. In Tennessee at least near Chattanooga I heard a lot of people saying they would sort something meaning fix it. I like that one too. I really enjoy your videos and waiting for the rest of the taking the shirts apart. Thank you so much for posting these
I can’t imagine how inexpensively I could make a quilt if thrift store shirts were 50 cents! My goodness! There are a million ways to repurpose dress shirts for sure….I never thought about madras plaid shirts or shorts so there you go. Thanks for watching and commenting and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! 🥰 Ps “fair to middling” actually referred to grades of cotton way back in the day. So that’s where that phrase came from, I believe.
My husband is either a 2 or 3XLT. (Wears a 52 long jacket!) he wears plaid long sleeve shirts to work with the sleeves rolled up. His sweat, combined with antiperspirant, actually wears out the armpits of his shirts. The rest of the fabric is fine! Since he wears them out so quickly I started just buying his shirts at the thrift store. Here’s a hint that helps me - if the shirts aren’t separated by size look for the sleeves which hang down lower than others! I save all his red, white, and blue plaid shirts and made a throw quilt for his mom. Massive amounts of material!
I’m telling you, big and tall guys with great taste in clothes…the BEST! I’m lucky that one of my favorite thrift stores (I have several! 😂) separates by sizes but I think that is a great tip! Thanks for watching and for sharing!
I’ve used men’s shirts and ties over the years in a variety of projects. The biggest problem I’ve had from time to time is getting the smell out of fabrics. I’ve used vinegar and ammonia and non-chlorine bleach from time to time but some things just have that intractable aroma, even after airing them out for weeks. I wash the ties in Woolite; I’ve made crazy quilt items with them.
Enjoyed listening to you I also buy men's shirts from the thrifts stores and 100% cotton pillow cases, I have found beautiful fabric's for my stash, I'm not a good quilter but I sure love fabric's.
You are fun to watch. Nice editing. I like to buy men's thrift shirts to feminize for me (a woman) with darts, and decorative stitches from my fancy sewing machine. I like to quilt, but have only used old jeans in a quilt. I will be doing this! I love the quality of the fabrics in men's dress shirts.
You are a bad influence!!! I do not need any encouragement to go seek out high quality inexpensive fabric :) That said, I'm sure that I'll soon find myself following your example in my local thrift store, because I actually 'need' some solid or read-as-solid fabrics for a quilt I'm making. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Thanks for sharing your haul. I went today and got 11 shirts and a woman's top for $10.00. They were really nice. It was all you can put in a bag for $5.00.
I have a thrift store that puts their stuff 50% off and most of the really large (XXL) is always easy to find and these ones usually half off. Saturdays are my husbands favorite day b/c he gets to go to garage sales. Now I have something new to look for.
Thank you for subscribing! It is intriguing, isn’t it? My IRL quilting friend went to the thrift store this week and texted me “I am surprised by all the bright and non-traditional colors!” I hope you find some shirts that spark joy for you when you do go!
@@TheCatBirdQuilts You're welcome so much!! I make pillows from men's shirts. I've been quilting since my senior year in college umpteen years ago😁 and not until your video showed up on my feed did the light bulb go off....*ding* I'm going to be buying more men's dress shirts now💙💙
@@elmyra.jackson you could probably teach me a thing or two (or ten!) because last time I checked, “umpteen” is a LOT of years ago! Lol! 😂😊☺️😘 It’s funny how those of us who do other crafts too just have “blind spots”….I had never considered peasant skirts as a viable fabric option until someone commented! 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️☺️ But now I will! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts lol....I learned traditional quilting and the history of quilting from my grandmother, however I'm not a stick by the book quilter. When an idea comes to me,I don't even use a pattern. I just execute it!! I don't use batting. I use cotton blankets like my grandmother did that I find at thrift stores.
I really could use the purple shirt. I am making a lap quilt for my husband he was in the military and received a Purple Heart. That Purple shirt is just the right color.
Oh my goodness! I wish I had known...I just cut into it for a new quilt project! 🤦🏻♀️ How much fabric do you need? If i have enough left I will send it to you! (a word of caution tho: it is polyester blend and not soft at all. It IS gorgeous though.
@@TheCatBirdQuilts thank you for being so generous. I can just keep an eye out for it. I enjoy the hunt for fabric as well as putting the quilt together. How big of quilts do you make and what brand of machine do you use?
@@pamelafloyd5765 I’ve done baby quilts up to an 80”x88” bedsize quilt and everything in between! And my machine is a Brother PQ1500SL. Let me know if you change your mind about the purple fabric!
My family and others often shop at thrift stores because we’re on a fixed income. Some clothing is very difficult to find particular plus size men’s shirts. They are one or two in 1 million that are in good shape so when I purchase clothing for material for quilting or other DIY projects I try to leave the plus size men’s shirts alone so that someone who is truly in need Ken find a treasure.
Do you know, I just bought a wine-colored men’s shirt and a forest green one too…hmmmm. You might be right!! A fall quilt is sounded pretty amazing now! 😍😊🤩
back again Would you be kind enough to make a video of how to piece together the squares or whatever shape they will be Im new at this !! Hey at least I got my machine out of the box !!! hee hee I can do this !!!! I retired from Ct and moved to Winston-Salem 5 years ago
I will eventually make the video you’ve requested but I’ve got several in the works before it! 😳 Lots of great resources here on UA-cam (I really love Melanie K Hamm and Just Get it Done Quilts) if you can’t wait!
I stumbled upon your channel and I'm really loving it. DO YOU STARCH AFTER WASHING SHIRTS? Have been wanting to make a quilt with some of my husband's shirts... I'm now a loyal fan! Thank you.
I don’t starch them unless they are linens or a loose weave cotton, and then I do it once I’ve cut my pieces…and basically just to help them maintain their shape so they don’t shift when I do the piecing. You know, everyone needs to have a fan (or two!) Happy to have you along with me! Thanks for your comment! 😊
I always starch especially anything made in oxford cloth which seems to unravel if you breathe on it once cut. I use Puree Sta Flo which is a concentrate which can mix to your desired strength. A half gallon jug lasts forever. I find it easier to dissect the shirts and then dip the pieces in a light starch solution and then let them line dry.
Im new to your channel - love it! So this question has been addressed somewhere, I’m sure, but I’m curious about your fabric content on these shirts - do you select only cotton? Blends? I dont even quilt yet, but Im sure I will, and I love thrifting and reusing things in new ways.
Oh thank you, Donna! ❤️ And welcome! I'm glad you found me! I do try to use only cotton-- you can use poly-blends but I've decided it's not worth the extra work that you have to do to make them work (starching, pinning, etc.) I do also use linen, and linen-cotton blends. Basically only natural fibers. 🤓
I think the aqua gingham would have to become a precious shirt dress. Take off the sleeves and rework them into a short, puffed sleeve. Make a tie belt. Maybe a tiny ruffle across the top of the pocket to tie in with the puff sleeves.
That's a great idea! Although, great day, with full-time job, kids, husband and now a UA-cam channel, I can barely get a dang quilt done! (Much less a cute dress!) 😂🤣😘 If I don't end up using it in a quilt, I'll send it to you! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I don't know how you do it. My kids are all grown and on their own. I only work a part time job, and take care of the regular home things. And I still can't find the time I'd like, to be able to see. Although, I remember. When mine were little. I didn't sleep. My nights were 20 minutes naps 😂 sew a little. Nap. Put cupcakes in the oven with the timer set, and nap while they baked. Wake up and get them out. Sew while they cooled. I don't even know how I survived it. .
Greetings, I am actually working on a quilt constructed of mostly Brooks Brothers brand men's shirts. A rather high end brand name that I find a lot of in GW 's near me on the Treasure Coast of Florida . Most with long sleeves, great fabric 100% cotton- in a variety of qualities. When I started I could get shirts for $3.99 plus the 25% senior discount. Now the shirts are $ 7 or $8 and rarely BB brand. I wash them immediately upon getting home and then take the time to deconstruct them.. Love the big sizes! I would love you to show us some of your quilts in progress. 💙
Thanks for reply - will go over to I. PS my BB men's shirt quilt is a zillion blue variations cut in triangles and white Kona cotton borders. I have 23 - 12" squares completed but not put together. 💙
Hi Cary! And YAYYYY so glad you found me!! ❤️ I buy *mostly* 100% cotton (now) but I also buy linen-cotton blend and linen shirts. I do try to avoid cotton-poly or anything that isn't a 100% natural fiber. I talk a lot about it in thrift haul videos, but go into specific detail why in this video: ua-cam.com/video/mbJHup41gnY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching and commenting, btw! I look forward to seeing your name in the comments! 😊
Just found your channel today. Love your ideas. Questions (hopefully not already asked): What do you do with all those buttons? Have you done a video showing how you breakdown the shirts? Should have waited until I have watched all your videos. Sorry
Hi! I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and perused your titles but haven’t seen anything about how to wash/dry/remove stains from thrifted dress shirts (cotton or linen). Have I missed it? Tysm.
Cynthia, I haven't done a full video about washing/drying/stain removal---but I probably should! I'm getting ready to try a laundry additive that is an odor remover; once I try it, I'll do a full-fledged video on it! In the meantime, I wash my shirts before I break them down, and I put a generous amount (a cup or 2 or more) of vinegar which helps remove smells and chemical finishes on clothes. I dry shirts on warm and then treat them just exactly like quilting cottons from then on! 🤓
Have you had any measurements problems? Most of the shirts I find have one direction with a little stretch, I'm still cutting up all my finds from goodwill bins, I'm scared to cut and sew
I haven’t. Just like fabric at the store, some have a little stretch or a little more “give” especially on the bias, but they really behave mostly like quilting cottons. As long as they are 100% cotton. 👍🏻
I have used them with varying degrees of success. For me they've worked best on smaller quilts (baby or small throw size); I'm currently using one in a project and I decided to split it up and piece the back...I have had a hard time keeping a good straight edge with it. It's so soft and has so much give that none of my lines are really coming out straight. 🤔😒😫 So...I don't know if that's everyone's experience, but not a bad thing to consider. Maybe the moral of the story is: they're great but don't piece or cut them!?
@@TheCatBirdQuilts thanks. Good to know. The two sheets I saw yesterday weren't worn or stretched out of shape. Going back today to get them. Love your videos....lots of info for thrifty quilting. I'm retired and now think twice before buying yardage because of prices.
How does this fabric quilt up? I have been told not to use sheets (like for quilt backings) bc the thread count is too high and it doesn’t quilt well. Is that the same for dress shirt fabric?
I haven't had a lot of problems (other than mistakes in the learning process) but I'm also not doing anything really advanced from the quilting standpoint. I'm working on an irish chain right now made with gingham and white men's dress shirts and I have noticed a little pulling across some of the white blocks, which seems to benefit from a fresh needle (that reminds me, it's time to change my needle!) But nothing major. I've had longarm quilters do a couple of my quilts and didn't notice any puckering or pulling.
Speaking of thrifting shirts (which we already know you like to do!), I love the style and fit of the shirts you wear in your videos...aaand I see you made a nice cover up and that you mention making a dress from one of these. Do you have tips on altering thrifted shirts for wearing instead of quilting? Or maybe that's another channel once this one gets going!
I cover this in an upcoming video, but the short answer is yes, I remove them. How? Vverrrry carefully! 🤣😱😂 it can tear, pull or make holes in the fabric so you have to be patient and work slowly! 👍🏻😊
I'm currently working on a pieced receiving blanket of thrifted white linen and white cotton eyelet. The baby was born last week, and it's HOT down here. So I pieced it using french seams, so I wouldn't have to back it. Today I'm doing a rolled hem with a knotted blanket stitch around the edges, then embroidering her name and some billion roses, on a linen square. I absolutely love working with thrifted clothes.
“I love the big and tall guys with good taste in clothes” 😂 Same, friend. Same.

How wonderful!!🥰 I’m so glad you are inspired, too…I think you’re really going to enjoy quilting with them! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️
Another wonderful video, great to see all the lovely fabrics you got from all those shirts, I will be looking in my local shops very soon to see if I can be that lucky, thanks so much for showing us....
Thank you! And you’re welcome! ☺️
Hey just found your videos and I love them . Also I live about 30 miles north of Birmingham toward Gadsden. Do not want to give my exact location . You are making me want to do crafts again.Stay safe, healthy and happy!!!! Love your sense of humor!!!!
Well hey there neighbor! Thanks for watching and commenting! 🥰
I catch myself feeling fabric wherever I go…… 👔 👕 👚❤️😊
Aww thank you! 🥰 thanks for commenting and watching!
It’s like getting to touch shirts myself watching you lovingly handle them. Gotta respect a good shirt
What’s funny is I don’t even realize I’m handling them…but yes, especially when they’re SO SOFT!
I would love to see some of your baby quilts made with the shirts. Thanks for these videos. I am hoping to make my friend a memory quilt from her husband’s dress shirts.
We’ll be adding videos that include more quilts I’ve made (the one behind me is all men’s shirts!) thanks for your comment and for watching!
Those purples would make a lovely applique iris! You will want a gold piece for the bearding part of the iris and it will be stunning! The light green would be great for the stems of the iris, I am so visualizing this quilt! I like the brown shirt also, for autumn.
Oh Chris you are right! 😍
I never imagined using mens shirts! I've used old sheets and pillow cases for more traditional looking quilts and table covers. Thanks for some really great ideas!
Thank you!! And thanks for watching and commenting!
You have such a great attitude. That is an awesome haul!!! Thank you for sharing your haul.
You’re so welcome! I questioned whether to do this video so I’m glad you liked it!
I love haul videos. I am a all around crafter so I enjoy them. It’s always great to see what others find.
I make my scrap quilts from thrift shops. I love them. I also make lots of bears for charities, so the buttons I use for eyes.
Aww button-eyes! ❤️ Thanks for your comment!
The one you called the “ugly” shirt reminds me of some civil war print fabric. I like it!
Oh I can totally see that!
Excellent video- funny and informative! I learned a lot in short period of time. Will be visiting the thrift stores this week as I am collecting fabric for an upcoming quilting project with my mom.
Thank you!!🥰 So glad you watched and commented (and learned!)-good luck thrift shopping!
I’ve just watched your other video. Subscribed and excited to see what you make with all your lovely finds.😃😃😃
Somehow I missed this comment...thank you for subscribing! 🥰
Absolutely! So many uses for all these discards…I’m thankful for the thrift store! 😊❤️
Would love to see a video of the quilts you have made to get my creative juices flowing on making a quilt
That’s in the works…prob will have a video up next week!
Thank you so very much for your inspirational ideas 👏👏👏👍👍👍😃😃😃💐💐💐
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!
Great finds. I love the ginghams too. Thanks for the share!
Thank you for watching!
Gotta love your enthusiasm
Someone else said this too…I don’t think of myself that way but apparently I have a LOT OF IT!
Lol!
Thanks for the comment! ☺️
Love your use of thrift shirts. Best quality our there! Will try it, too!
Thank you, Irene! ❤️
Ps “fair to middling” actually referred to grades of cotton way back in the day. So that’s where that phrase came from, I believe.
I'm just discovering your channel. You are SO fun. Thanks for sharing.
Aww thanks! So glad you found me!
Love the hall! Good choices. 🎉. Our shirts are $7 - $16 and up at Goodwill 😢 senior day 10% off
Good heavens! For items that have been donated! You'd be better off buying brand-new clearance ...
I've found that soaking in a vinegar/water solution (even as long as overnight) gets out most smells!
I would love to see some of your quilts.
Coming soon!
I am enjoying your videos so much! I’m wishing it wasn’t Sunday so I could go thrifting!
Aww 🥰 Thank you!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Enjoyed listening to you I also buy men's shirts from the thrifts stores and 100% cotton pillow cases, I have found beautiful fabric's for my stash, I'm not a good quilter but I sure love fabric's.
Me too! I’m not winning any awards in the quilting Olympics (🤣) but I love to do it! Thanks for commenting!
Thank you so much! My husband gets all the credit for production and editing…he’s the BEST. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ugly fabric makes a beautiful quilt! 😍
Love it! ❤️
I AM a bad influence! Friends IRL can confirm. 🤣
Thanks for watching and for the comment! ☺️
Thanks for sharing your haul. I went today and got 11 shirts and a woman's top for $10.00. They were really nice. It was all you can put in a bag for $5.00.
Sweet haul!! 😍🤩☺️
I love your videos! And I love the purple one!!
Thank you! I’ve started a quilt with it…we’ll see how it goes! 😳😂🤩
You are a hoot!! Just subscribed ...love your themes
I'm something, that's for sure! ;) Thanks for subscribing!
So glad I found your channel 😊
Oh yay! Thanks for being here and for commenting!
I have a thrift store that puts their stuff 50% off and most of the really large (XXL) is always easy to find and these ones usually half off. Saturdays are my husbands favorite day b/c he gets to go to garage sales. Now I have something new to look for.
Hooray! I bet you’ll be surprised at some of the amazing finds you’ll have! ❤️
This is fascinating stuff. I just subscribed. I have a wedding in another town today, or I'd be rummaging through shirts this afternoon! Ha!
Thank you for subscribing! It is intriguing, isn’t it? My IRL quilting friend went to the thrift store this week and texted me “I am surprised by all the bright and non-traditional colors!”
I hope you find some shirts that spark joy for you when you do go!
My first time watching your videos. Not only are you informative, you are fun to watch as well.😃
New Sub
Oh thank you so much…for the kind words, for watching, and subscribing!🥰
So glad to have you along with me! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts You're welcome so much!! I make pillows from men's shirts. I've been quilting since my senior year in college umpteen years ago😁 and not until your video showed up on my feed did the light bulb go off....*ding*
I'm going to be buying more men's dress shirts now💙💙
@@elmyra.jackson you could probably teach me a thing or two (or ten!) because last time I checked, “umpteen” is a LOT of years ago! Lol! 😂😊☺️😘
It’s funny how those of us who do other crafts too just have “blind spots”….I had never considered peasant skirts as a viable fabric option until someone commented!
@@elmyra.jackson that’s cool!!
Just found your channel. Can you show how you cut them up? Love the haul ❤️
I have a whole video series on cutting them up! Just look for the "How to Break Down..." videos in the "Videos" tab!
now seeing more videos
Definitely understand that! My particular thrift store has an abundance of plus-sized shirts and I don’t *usually* buy more than just a couple!
OH my...that "Ugly" brown you found...isn't all that ugly to me...as I see a fall quilt in your future!
Do you know, I just bought a wine-colored men’s shirt and a forest green one too…hmmmm. You might be right!! A fall quilt is sounded pretty amazing now! 😍😊🤩
Im headed to the Goodwill at 1PM Our GW is close to an affluent area so the choices are great !! I'll let you know how I do
Good luck!
back again Would you be kind enough to make a video of how to piece together the squares or whatever shape they will be Im new at this !!
You should show some of the actual quilts you have made with these materials.
Those videos coming soon!
That small shirt in purple is LSU purple. It’s a staple here in Baton Rouge.
Well if I ever need another one, I’ll know where to go for it!! ❤️😂😊🐯

Thing for gingham=“thingham” 😁
😂😂😂 Perfect!!
(Much less a cute dress!) 😂🤣😘
If I don't end up using it in a quilt, I'll send it to you!
Coming soon!! If you want to see my current WIP’s feel free to follow me on Instagram or FB.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for reply - will go over to I. PS my BB men's shirt quilt is a zillion blue variations cut in triangles and white Kona cotton borders. I have 23 - 12" squares completed but not put together. 💙
@@beverlymartin1414 oh I bet it’s gonna be BEAUTIFUL.
So many shirts - so little time!
I think this exact thing, nearly every day!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have used the tags and details as embellishments on quilts made for families who have lost a son or father or brother.
Hi Cathy. Just found you YAY!!! So looking forward to learning from you. Thanks in advance. Question. Are all the shirts that you buy 100% cotton???
Hi Cary! And YAYYYY so glad you found me!! ❤️ I buy *mostly* 100% cotton (now) but I also buy linen-cotton blend and linen shirts. I do try to avoid cotton-poly or anything that isn't a 100% natural fiber. I talk a lot about it in thrift haul videos, but go into specific detail why in this video: ua-cam.com/video/mbJHup41gnY/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching and commenting, btw! I look forward to seeing your name in the comments! 😊
Just found your channel today. Love your ideas. Questions (hopefully not already asked): What do you do with all those buttons? Have you done a video showing how you breakdown the shirts? Should have waited until I have watched all your videos. Sorry
No sorry needed! I’m thankful for your comment! ❤️
Oh yeh! I buy 3x and up. Except if i really like the pattern and it s a unique one.😅
Do you recommend using cotton sheets for backing? I find them at thrift stores and often think about using them in my quilt as you go projects.
So...I don't know if that's everyone's experience, but not a bad thing to consider.
😊
I don't see a picture of a full quilt so far on your videos. :-(
Frankly, the deep purple would make a nice accent fabric with the pinks and teals and the lavender.
It would! And I did actually just start a new quilt with the lavender/purple as a pairing! 😍
Great minds think alike! 😉
Cathy what do you do with the linen shirts?
I break all my shirts down into usable sections and then I use the fabric to quilt with-even the linen ones! 🤩🤓😍
I just found your channel! Do you wash the shirts before cutting them?
I do!
I’ve to be honest, with both the cover-up AND the dress, I didn’t really know what I was doing and I totally winged it!🤣
@@TheCatBirdQuilts Story of my life. 😂 Thank you for replying!
I'll be interested to know what the yardage is for the sizes.
Check out my video “how much fabric…” which gives the yardage for every size from XS to XXL! 👍🏻
Do you save the buttons?
Yes I do! If you watch the “how to get the most fabric…” video I cover shirt prep and buttons! Great question!
Do you remove pockets from front of shirt? If so, how do you do it? Does it flaw the fabric when removed?
I cover this in an upcoming video, but the short answer is yes, I remove them. How? Vverrrry carefully! 🤣😱😂 it can tear, pull or make holes in the fabric so you have to be patient and work slowly! 👍🏻😊
A woman after my own heart! I made a quilt entirely of recycled linen shirts and pants!
Love it!
