- Richard Hammond has had an incredibly varied car collection over the years, but it turns out he pines after some of the vehicles that have come and gone. Richard answers a bunch of frequently asked questions from the comments, as well as stipulating which were the cars that 'got away'.

I didn’t know that Hamster’s newest Morgan was lost in a flood, that was an absolute cracking car
That's weird I found wet looking morgan
Haha. Yeah. Cuz of the wood beam flexing!
yeah I think I saw it the other day floating south of Stewart Island
Morgan 🤢🤢
No one's gonna talk about how he called him hamster.
5:11 that's going to be interesting in a couple of hundred years when Australian Time Team dig up this guys body and think he's a man called Richard Hammond
Last time I was this early, an electric hypercar was upside down.
Last time I was this early Jessica was playing
🤣
Something that I’ve always been curious about…. The cars used in the specials and cheap car challenges on Top Gear and The Grand Tour. How much input did the 3 of you have on choosing what cars were used. Was it a case of turning up and someone saying “Richard your driving this” or you saying “I want an Opel Kadet”?
I think james talked about this, in most they would go over ads, listing ring up dealers and stuff. When they picked out one they wanted production are would arrange purchase
@@QurttoRco Hammond was scrolling through the personals and swiped right on Oliver ❤️
I believe it was all dependant on the challenge/ Special in question.
Some of which, the boys actually went out and bought their own cars. I believe as they got more well known they would obviously have to send somebody to collect said car.
Sometimes they were given a list of cars to chose from, selected by producers, writers etc.
i think there is a horrible video of someone involved in top gear america who is clearly very obsessed with himself talking about the proces going into these specials, and i remember him talking about the og tg team having a lot of input whereas the later era tg teams just turning up to 3 picked out cars by the producers.
@@hasjparo I tried to think who you were talking about then I realised and I'm like 99% sure I know now 🤣
We need longer Richard Hammond videos on here!
Short man, short videos.
Then don't watch them. It really is that easy, troll.
@@EyePatchGuy88 yep... But we do need longer vids... 6 minutes ain't enough 😂
@@Mole204 what's your problem? He's only asking a question bro 🤣
In 2013 I bought a red 550 Maranello, and at the time I thought it was the stupidest financial decision I'd ever made. Talk about dumb luck...I couldn't afford it today.
You time it beautifully! Congrats!
Out of all the Ferrari's that have come out since I've been an adult, a Maranello is the one I want most.
Being an Aussie, I had recently thought you (Hammond) should be considered an honorary Aussie. As I remember way back on how you treated the old Aussie TG guys by letting them race with you UPSIDE DOWN. As you seem to drive your cars upside down a fair bit, you no doubt see things similar to us down here :)
Haha well played
A question for Mr. Hammond ... If you could own any vehicle in the World but it was the only vehicle you could own and drive for the rest of your life, which vehicle would it be ?
Oliver
@@augustusimperator.avi1872 🙌 YES 🙌
@@augustusimperator.avi1872 🤣
I think he might pick a Land Rover over Oliver
Almost every car Hammond talks about in this video, whether it be a car he regrets selling or regrets not buying, is ironically part of my dream garage. I am especially deeply infatuated by the 550 Maranello and the Esprit Sport 350. And I'd love to daily a Discovery 4.
As the owner of a 550 and Esprit Turbo SE I have to say you have fine taste Sir! One thing I will say is the 550 is a far finer car than generally it has been thought of in the past. I’ve owned one for 10 years and another for the past 2, doing about 57k miles, and they are to me the best all-in-one-package Ferrari out there. Classic motoring? Tick. Enough power and torque for public roads? Tick. Practical enough for long road trips? Tick. Sublime weight distribution? Tick. Reliable? Tick. Its strength lies in the master-of-all-trades it is, and if you appreciate that kind of thing then I highly recommend them.
3:12 Harry Metcalfe (Harry's Garage / founder of *EVO* magazine) goes into detail as to why he sadly sold his Zonda (example > maintenance and servicing: he had to either drive to Pagaini's factory in Italy or arrange a courier/transport for the Zonda THEN pay the service bill).
Link: ua-cam.com/video/4epQvqkmvBk/v-deo.html (love that his private plate had UFO in it)
It kills me that I had to sell my Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo. Kills me even more to see what Clarkson did to one on an old Top Gear! Brutal car, no real tech to speak of, rare as hens teeth nowadays....
Fwd lol. If for some crazy reason you actually wanted FF layout in a coupe sports car then the Integra is the better choice
Don't you mean tigra
it's a cool looking car in a strange way but they always struck me as the sort of thing you buy if you cant get hold of a proper rwd sports car.
@@ruixitas He's saying the Integra is a better front wheel drive car, so he clearly does.
@@webb2800 hmm…nope, I’d rather have the fiat
What is the most surprising car you have ever driven? A car that you thought would be one thing but was totally different when you drove it.
Oliver! Oliver is just a tiny car but it still managed to cross Botswana without even ruining it or having modifications
Nissan Juke. I thought it was going to be terrible, but it was actually dreadful.
2003 Chevrolet Tracker. I expected it to be terrible, but it is the first car I’ve heel toe downshifted now. Daily driving that $700 Tracker through traffic is more fun than I ever would’ve imagined.
1987 nissan sentra. was a beast.
the jet dragster
Dear Richard, I'm so thankful that I'd discovered Top Gear a very long time ago and you and the other two blokes have become my heroes.
Great video as always folks!
When that Pagani question came in I thought Richard was away to say "Because Mindy doesn't want me in those cars, for obvious reasons" and not because of financial. However yes paying for one of those over house, house comes first.
The cars this man has sold would make up quite a nice percentage of my dream carage.
Those old Sciroccos were well mint cars. My ex bird had one, the 1.9 one, and it was nice to drive. Cheers Hamster and co.
A lot of thing we did not know about Richard. Great video and content. Your a legend
Question for Richard, James or Jeremy: Because of how rich (not in the monetary sense), adventurous and varied your driving history has been, both cars you've owned and cars you've used for TV, do you feel you are satisfied that you have had all the fun and adventure there is to have or do you believe future cars have more fun and excitement to bring?
question for hammond: what car did you have high expectations for but hated it once you tested it out?
question for may: what do you think of modern bmws?
question for clarkson: will you ever sell your lamborghini tractor?
Something tells me that list is going to be almost exclusively American cars 😆
@@Gringorican 😂
Wow, a 550 Maranello. Had loved the car since playing it in NFS 3.
Loving the Pepsi GMT there, Richard! Nice wrist game👌🏻 Here’s a question- can we please get a video of Hammond showing his watch collection? PLEASEEE
I was looking for this comment! Hammond has some cool watches, I'd love to see his collection as well!
After over 20yrs I’m moving back to the UK. Meeting Richard is on my wish list.
I asked a my father similar questions this morning, I didn’t even know he was cool, showed me a photo album of the all the awesome cars he owned in the 80’s and 90’s. the one he regrets selling most was a Pajero evolution which he adapted the twin turbos from the 3000GT/ GTO on to. 3.5 TT V6 in 97
I might have seen Hammonds's very ex-car then! I live in Australia and saw an Aeromax in Tasmania, on the Channel Highway heading towards Taroona. What an amazing coincidence!
Weird that you saw it on the highway. I would think it would be difficult to drive quickly with the roof against the ground and the wheels up in the air.
this may be a dumb question but how come we don't see Clarkson and in front of the camera at all anymore? we see you and James all the time and that's awesome just curious as to which rock Clarkson is hiding under these days
A farming rock 😆
Probably got a busier schedule I imagine. He’s always been the least involved with DT
Right he was tearing up when the GT show ended, so I thought he'd be interested in pushing the DT idea a bit more. Shame !
Our three favorite hosts should have a GT Podcast where they discuss about new cars, their past cars, technologies, traffic laws, etc… I would definitely subscribe to that podcast!
Just wish would be getting out some more Grand Tour episodes. Still this works for now.
There is a high pitched tone on the left channel, you guys might want to check your audio equipment/settings.
Hey Richard! What’s your favourite type of engine! Mine is V10 but a tie for second place with rotaries and the i5 setup, such unique sounds!
Richard, great acting piece--you should be in the movies. ;)
The Morgan Aero 8 was an absolutely stunning car.
Love your work 👍
3:50 engin in that time in Zonda was modified M120 too same modifed by amg for the clk-gtr :D
Dang I just watched a video on you taking delivery of your Morgan Plus Six that was a nicely spec'd Morgan. Have you thought about reordering another.
Really want to see Jeremy and James Anser these to! if it can together. Amusing :D
I now have this vision of Richard scouring the Australian obituaries every morning and then one morning, jump up, flee the house and be arrested at Heathrow trying to board a Quantas flight with a shovel.
I wish he could have a Zonda...it would be a great gift for him!!!
Thank you, I love Richard, James and Jezzar❤❤❤❤❤
Always such a joy to watch you, Richard. Jeremy was right - you’re one of the funniest guys around, and a delight to listen to. One question if I may: how hard has it been all these years juggling your work on Top Gear and then The Grand Tour, with your family life - particularly all the time away from home and your propensity to collect almost every car your lustful heart desires? All the best to you from Australia. 🦘🇦🇺👍
This was an excellent video
a question for hammond:
do you miss any of a top gear special episode car? If so what is it?
P.S are you considering buying the new opel manta or an nissan 400z
It's just Nissan Z, no 400.
@@Flysohighx21 no, he wants 400 of them
@@Flysohighx21 It's a 400Z.
@@dustojnikhummer Does this depend on where one lives? In the US, it's the Nissan Z.
@@justawhisperintheuniverse8257 It doesn't Mather what Nissan says.
I loved (months back) the video of Hammond walking the dogs. Would love another video like that. Maybe another a day in the life of Hammond or an extended tour of his property.
I have seen that car down here in AUSTRALIA
And it is a lovely aero Max..
Does cars and coffee quite often..
This is very hard to watch, if only for all the memories this brings up of me selling cars trucks and motorcycles that now are worth much gold, but really it’s the love and beauty they gave me and how they fed my soul with smells of metal, rubber, oil and petrol.
The one car I can honestly say I regret selling. 1987 Pontiac Sunbird Convertible. Silver on black just looked beautiful.
Ive had 5 cars and honestly I don't regret binning them when I did, I do regret not buying quite a few. Now I have my last petrol car (Clio 182 Cup) that unless it blows up I'll keep it forever.
I just got a 60K km Disco 4 2014, it's amazing!
Here is a question that ive came up with for hammond: if there is one thing you miss about top gear and the original grand tour (the version before they switched to specials) what would it be?
Have you, James and Jeremy considered a points system (+/-) on your owned and previously owned vehicles?
oh man the 993 GT3 thats one of my favorite cars. buy hey i regret selling all of my cars too id love to someday buy them back even my ordinary grocery getter winter mobile cars i miss
Where are the boats you guys used in the Cambodia episode?
Excellent!
Anyone notice the GMT Pepsi? I'd love a watch video with any/all of the 3 guys. They all have some impressive pieces
Richard, your thoughts and feelings on the TG test track being ripped up for houses?
I'm getting a new car soon but I really don't want to sell my 08 mustang convertible, it's my first car and I absolutely love it. I'm surprised it's still holding up as well as it has.
@ROCK UNCLE Production I want to but idk if I can afford to.
Jeremy, Richard and James i n we want see you guys car collection on here please make it happen DRIVETRIBE
I haven't so much sold cars as much as I've in one way or another made them inoperable and therefore have had them hauled to salvage yards. I miss almost all of them. They weren't special to anyone but me. But I would love to have any or all of them back. And considering how much they're worth, or not worth, it wouldn't be too difficult. But unfortunately in the present economy it's difficult just to keep my current car on the road to get back and forth to work
Hamster's dog is awesome 🐾
That blazer is amazing! Where did you buy it?
When are more episodes of Hammond workshop coming out ?
What car/ cars would you want to keep from the grand tour? ( like you kept Oliver from top gear)
I've seen that Aeromax here in Australia :)
Richard Hammond is such a likeable guy!
What was it about Firenzas, eh, Richard?! I know that when you and I were at RGS, some of my dad's colleagues at Croft and Blackburn, out back by the redgra' and netball courts, had the 2279cc slant-4 versions, and a couple of them went with flame orange plus Starsky and Hutch stripe. Another friend and also later colleague of my dad's after he moved to North Stainley Garage had an 1800 Magnum, put a FIAT 2L Twin-cam plus Ford 5-speed, boot tank, roll-cage, fire-extinguishers, etc. in it and turned it into a rally-cross car that he also daily drove.
Some how, at that time back in Ripon, it was either RS2000s, Mantas/Cavalier coupes, or Firenzas. You had one, I had one, we both regret selling them (me especially after finding out my dad actually did the PDI on the one I had)... Mine rusted out, and was in a scrapyard on Dalamires Lane 3yrs after I sold it, (ironically the same place I used to raid for bits when I had it), one of the orange stripey ones got rolled in the narrow lanes behind Lightwallet Valley after trying to avoid a convoy of 38 Royal Engineers vehicles off out to build and/or blow up another bridge - I hope yours has gone to a place where they could find the missing door and give it the future it deserved!
If I could find one of the half-dozen 'Snoots that is still road-registered, and the owner was selling it, I would make a serious offer. Given one is the Heritage Collection composite car you showed, that's going to be a rare day! Failing that, a V8 South African Chevy Can-Am version would do. Another friend says there were two 'Snoots racing at the Classic Touring Car event last weekend at Brands Hatch, though he only saw one in the paddock. Maybe that's where the other 5-6 SORNed ones all ended up?
Cheers!
Ian
I will now eagerly await the upcoming "Graverobbing my Morgan back" video
Soo reason for the 575f maranello blured out?
Richard Hammond what car do you think is the cooler, the jaguar Mark 2 3.8 or the jaguar xj series 3 with the 5.3?
In 1980 I sold my mint Cortina Mk1 1500 GT for a tenner,i thought i had broken it beyond repair due to both front wheels pointing in opposite directions, the guy who bought it just got underneath with some string straightened them up and drove off.
👍👍 for the Scirocco. I regretfully had to sell mine because of covid.
The Australian guy literally went "over my dead body" (or "around", to be exact) for the Morgan 😂
When is going to be the next open day at the smallest cog, I live so close and dying to see a open day there. I've been in and Neil showed me round briefly.
the way he described why he doesn't have a zonda had me in tears :DDD
"Keep the wolves away from my wife and kids" that cracked me up hahah
Top 10 bucketlist driverscars you want to test, but have not had the possibility to do sol?
Also Zonda VS Carrera GT?
How do the compare in your opinion?
Hello, how would you rate countries on the scale of easiest to the most difficult to drive in?
Will we get another grand tour special this year (2022)
I don't know if I missed it through the cracks, I havent really seen much of tuned JDMs in GT or TG
Out of all the Top Gear challenge cars apart from the Opel Kadett, which would you have liked to have bought
QUESTION: CAN WE PLEASE SEE HAMMONDS WRISTWATCH COLLECTION?🤷♂️
Haha…I knew I was the king of the road in my 1972 Vauxhall Firenza!…Hammond mentioning it in the same sentence as Ferrari and Porsche proves it!!!!!
question: why is clarkson barely on drivetribe? i would like to see him here as well if possible
Would you but a kit car like the Perana Z one ( Zagato 376 GT)?
You guys didnt put enough pictures if the cars he was talking about in the beginning
I just sold my 1988 VW Scirocco, it makes me feel less bad now, knowing Hammond did the same mistake..
I was disappointed a Dodge Viper wasn’t mentioned, considering that was the blurred car in the thumbnail
A question for hammond what was it like to have a 69 charger in the UK and what was the main reason you sold it
what happened to the suv JOHN? the one you guys built in the middle of nowhere ?
Question for richard hammond, james may and jeremy clarkson, What was your favourite grand tour and top gear special
What have I learned from this? Mindy wears the trousers. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I want to know Hammonds opinion on the Mustang from the patagonia special and if he wants to have it back!
Wonder if he misses it?
Hopefully some other people are interested in knowing his thoughts on this topic also!
Lol, I doubt they'll ever get their V8 cars back from Argentina
@@JobiWan144 I know they won't. They were crushed years ago, sadly :(
I just want to know his opinion.
Would you take the Aero 8 back if the mouldy Australian was in the boot? And just dont get the weekly shopping in it?

The thing to remember about the Pagani decision:
You can live in a car but you can't race a house
I hope to see you guys Jeremy, Richard and James again testing cars or on a road trip. Please ONE MORE GO!!!
They're were filming a road trip not long ago
I miss my Scirocco too.
If Mr. Hammond comes to Canada one day, he can borrow my 997.2 C2S manual any time. Seriously. Not sure why he would ever come to Canada, but hey!
some questions for Mr Hammond : 1)What were your feelings when you crashed the Rimac?
2) What is your opinion about the MR2 MK3. would you buy it? Much respect from a Greek fan🇬🇷
He did a whole video about crashing the Rimac with the owner of the company
