I’m a big lad and with my neoprene dry suit need a fair chunk to get me down. So use a combination of both. Great vid

Newbie question -- what's the right proportion of dumpable vs fixed/non-dumpable weight? For example, let's say I need 8kg total weight and per your video have 2x 1kg dumpable weight on my BCD at the waist and then 6kg fixed to my BCD/tank ... will that be enough to get sufficient positive buoyancy if I do need to dump the (dumpable) weights?

Great question mate, not an easy answer though. I have no dumpable weights, but I can dump stuff from my pockets and torch etc. I dive with a backplate, wing and harness so need nothing in a wet suit and then an integrated weight in a Drysuit. In a bcd with pull out weight pockets I’d put no more than 1kg in each. That way if you loose one (which happens a lot) the result won’t be that drastic, and if early enough you can just fill your pockets with rocks until you recover the lost weight. It’s all personal preference really, finding your own way with practice and experience. I’ve seen people with several kilos in the dump pockets, imagine loosing that, you’d be like a tomahawk missile to the moon 🤦🏼‍♂️

I don´t like weight belts since one almost fell on my head on a night dive. I prefer integrated quick release systems

Sorry I’ve no idea in imperial, we’re in metic over here. Probably best doing a weight check in some shallow water
