This video wasn’t an easy one but I needed to get this out. Here are my learnings from taking a break from social media. Different from my usual stuff but it felt good and I hope you can take something away from it.

Thanks for putting this out there Miles. I feel what you shared today is something many of us are strugging with, the social media presence preassure... but really who cares about the numbers, keep at it, loving what you do and putting it out there, the music will reach the listeners. Cheers!

Thanks a bunch for the encouraging words, Fierce. 💚 I think when you are in these situations that is sometimes very hard to see and to realize for yourself. But that's also what I meant with the last point: Once you break through all of that toxic stuff, you not only take something away from it but really can grow as an artist. Often times i also doubt myself as an artist and I'm having these breakdowns but in the end i always remind myself that I`m doing it for myself, to soothe my soul, to let my creativity run wild. Don't feel discouraged, patience and practice is key. Kind regards bro

Go easy on yourself, try to remember that the algorithm isn’t the be all and end all of everything.
Thanks again John and happy new year to you! Yeah sometimes it’s hard to keep that in mind as the numbers can have a big weight - definitely made progress in 2022 on freeing me from that stuff and will continue in 2023. It just reduces so much mental weight. Keep it up too!

It took me a long time to disconnect from social media “results” in that eventually I just treated it like something I need to do regardless of the return. Now when I post on Instagram, I don’t even look at the likes, views, engagement or whatever. Sometimes they perform well, sometimes they don’t and I just try to learn from that. What worked, what didn’t etc. it still creeps up and pains me from time to time, but ultimately see myself as the one In control of it. It is somewhat liberating. I know I’m doing it for good reason, to help people/inspire people/motivate people. Not just “hey look at me”. Great video dude, and thanks for sharing. Let’s make some content together sometime ❤
Thanks for sharing my dude! That is exactly the state which I'm aiming to get to. But now it still just bothers me too much and I know I should give less f*cks. I can totally feel you here my friend 🙏 I definitely see this as one of the main modern struggle of our generation of artists. Are we artists or content creators? So much perspectives and valid points to debat on. Slowing down on IG since the algorithm kinda slow down my engagement was one of the best decision I took some weeks ago I think. Finding the right balance is an art as well 🙂 I really like this new format from you buddy - I hope that Pixie’s doing awesome and settling down smoothly in her new home. Keep them coming my dude 🖤

And great question with artists or content creators - I definitely identify as an artist but it is hard from time to time. Creating art and taking time for it is something that gets harder and harder in our fast paced environment. Best example is releasing albums vs releasing EPs/Singles in times of streaming services like Spotify. I think there should be more time and room for artists again. Thanks my brother and all the best for you. 💚 Pixie is doing very well she gets used to her new home more and more. Hope Loki is doing fine as well! 🙂
Thank you so much for being transparent about your journey and for giving us your take away of something that majority of us independant artists go through when it comes to social media. I love that you elaborated on taking care of one's mental health and how important that is. Its been a consistent work in progress for me in that regard especially with being sober and just recently processing all the traumas and emotions I numbed and pushed away with alcohol for many years. I started to feel self conscious when I took more breaks than usual from posting and creating music but its like you said in your 3 learnings its okay and sometimes necessary to take a break.
I'll be honest i never thought you would go through this because of how great our music and video quality is along with some of the other major independant artist that i know from the Petit Collective crew. Just to reach some of your numbers on social media and Spotify streams/listeners would be a dream come true for me. But then again, by giving into the numbers game one can lose sight of the love for creating.

Thanks so much again Erik for reaching out. Sorry to hear what you've gone through but it makes me happy to hear that you surpassed that, are sober now and more self conscious. That is great and you have all my respect. 💚 And I totally hear you about the last point - when looking back I can already see how far I've come in my artist career. But in these situation that sometimes is so hard to see. I think the best and most healthy way to observe your process is stop comparing you to others and just compare you to the artist/human you've been 2 weeks, 2 months or even 2 years back. This is a really encouraging way to looking at your personal development. And no shitty numbers or statistics from social media needed for that. :) All the best for you buddy 💚

Hey Miles, I'm sorry you've been going through this. But thank you for making this video, because I have been as well the past couple months and it is nice to hear you talk about it.
I made less of a conscious decision to step away from social media, but more that I couldn't bring myself to interact with it or make any music and would start to feel guilty for not listening to everything people in the collective or elsewhere were putting out.
But you're right, when you feel overwhelmed you should just step away because it's really not healthy to force this digital presence in our lives when we don't feel like we have time for it. And eventually when you feel like you have breathing room, you can step back in and go from there.

If social media starts to stress you and that gets overwhelming it is in my experience one of the first signs that you need a break and should take it slow. In the early days I completely ignored these signs and it was totally the wrong decision as this inner pressure starts to build. So all the best for you and take breaks whenever needed. Much love 💚

Ich muss sagen, dass dieser Stress der sozialen Medien uns alle betrifft, sowohl als Konsument als auch als creator, ich habe immer das Gefühl, dass ich nicht genug für die Leute da bin, die ich unterstütze und deren Arbeit gern mag, oder wenn ich selbst etwas erstelle, sehr von den Algorithmen belohnt oder überhaupt nicht. Im Moment bin ich auch offline und höre mir meine playlists im alten Stil an oder wenn ich selber etwas spiele nehme ich nicht auf... Jedenfalls schön von dir zu hören und viel Erfolg für deine nächste Projekte

Hey dude, I just heard about it today and definitely need to get more into it. At first I thought "nothing really exciting for me" but when I saw the first videos with the pattern mutes it actually got me excited. I just came back from a business trip and have another one beginning of next week but I think I will explore this in a livestream next week. Would be happy to see you there! :)

Auch auf Social Media ist Masse nicht gleich Klasse. Wie Du hier siehst, gibt es eine ganze Menge Leute, die begeistert davon sind, was Du insbesondere mit dem Digitone veranstaltest. Aber unabhängig von den Elektron-Nerds: Dein Sound ist wirklich gut! Den Spagat zwischen Nerd-Content und massentauglichem Content zu bewältigen, das ist halt eine Herausforderung. Ich glaube, wenn Du Leute außerhalb der Synthie-Nerd-Blase z.B. auf TikTok ansprechen willst, musst Du mehr "story telling" machen. So bitter es für Musiker ist, aber der Erfolg von Titeln/Bands hängt sehr oft mehr mit der Story zusammen, als mit der Musik selbst...
Vielen Dank dir Alexander! Und ja, das ist leider sehr sehr wahr. Ich habe immer versucht den Spagat zu halten und Social Media nicht überhand nehmen zu lassen. Aber in Zukunft will ich mich noch mehr frei davon machen und einfach das tun, worauf ich Bock habe. Da freue ich mich sehr drauf. 💚
You know, this is part of the reason why I keep hesitating to post any of my music on UA-cam. I don't want to get sucked into a schedule that won't serve my creativity and/or get bummed by the lack of engagement. The reality isn't that song A was better than Song B, necessarily - it could just as well be because the algorithms boosted A more than B. I'd rather fight to stay outside of the algorithms and just let the music speak for itself. But then again, why would I post music at all if I don't care about sharing it with people? Back to square one.
I might do it at some point anyway because I just got a Syntakt today and I can't see myself finalizing all those songs as finished tracks, and a live jam on UA-cam is one way of getting some closure so you can move on to the next song.

Hey David, totally hear you here. This is something that really can bring you down. On the other hand I have to say that when I started to post my jams here on UA-cam it totally changed the way I was looking at the music making process. Before that I had so many hurdles and I wasn't really brave enough to put something out and share it. Now I have the feeling that the creative flow gets better with every jam that I make and I'm really enjoying the process here. So I can encourage everyone to give it a try although it can be tough from time to time the community spirit here is great. And this is something that I truly appreciate. All the best for you and stay healthy as well! :)

@@MilesKvndra Man merkt dir die Leidenschaft auch an und das ist das Wichtigste meiner Meinung nach. Ich denke, es gibt eine Menge gnadenlos unterschätzte Musiker hier auf UA-cam, deren Musik mich voll mitreißt, die jedoch nur wenige Views erzielen, da der Algorithmus unbarmherzig sein kann.
@@ARP_2600 ja das stimmt, davon gibt es wirklich viele. Das einzige was da echt hilft ist dranbleiben und das tun, was man liebt. :)
