    I made exactly the same mistake - thought it wasn’t worth getting the geared panning option for my cube. Wish I did. Other than that it’s one of the best pieces of gear I’ve ever used and I do think it’s worth the ultra high price.

      Yes, it was a big misstake but what can you do 😁 Other than that, like you say - fantastic product.

    I have Manfratto 400 for the studio. Works nice. For field use I got sunway photo geard head. Works nice. No more ball head for the last 3-4 yrs now.

    I have both the 410 and 405(I found it at a really nice price, under 300)… 410, I had one already before… trashing and bashing didn’t help much with the longevity the only complaint I might have. 405 seems to have no play, but is almost brand new, I’ll see how it goes.
    I considered the cube, briefly, even their ball head for outdoor shooting but after 18+ years of geared heads I remembered I don’t understand why other types of tripod heads exist. 😁

    I bought a Benro geared head. I am pleased with it - just need to get used to where all the knobs are and what they do. It does the job.
    Pity I previously bought 3x ball heads, 1x joystick, 1x regular pan and tilt + 1x ridiculous pan/tilt from Manfrotto that looked like a spider. Should have got the geared head in the first place :)

    I have a couple 410's and a 405. 405 is my favorite, but it has problems with one of the knobs getting hard to turn at times when fine tuning - seems like a common problem from my research. It came that way new and I sent it back to Manfrotto for repair, but it came back with the same problem.

    • @botvidsson

      That's bad. There are many many other good option brands, should have mention that in the video. Thanks

    My main criticism of the Manfrotto 410 is that the pan and tilt are not centered on the axis of sensor. I have it and use it in 99% of my bolted-down work. But, coming from an Acra-Swiss P0 that has the pan which was great for stitched panos, this "feature" of the Manny is frustrating.

      There are kits to rebuild some Manfrotto heads to use the Arca-Swiss mount instead. I can't understand why Manfrotto don't switch to the much superior Arca-Swiss standard. Having a mount that is made to fit your camera or lens is just so much better than the flimsy Manfrotto plates that never stays put that I will never go back.

    Another product that is very useful in studio work is a camera stand. These are typically made with a heavy three legged roller base and a counterbalanced lift. Definitely a studio tool. The nice thing about one is you can lift the camera up or down in small or large increments with the slightest touch. Bolt on the three way head to facilitate tipping the camera in any needed direction.
    Studio stands are not inexpensive, but are a worthwhile investment.

    • @jimjimgl3
      @jimjimgl3 9 місяців тому +3

      Yes. You are so right! In each of our rental studios (we had one in NYC (13 years) and now one in Chicago (4 years) the first thing I bought was a Cambo Studio UST stand. Both times I lucked out by buying a second hand stand for 25% of the cost of a new stand. A new Cambo runs around $12K. A guy here in Chicago was closing his studio and we bought it for $2000 (this was that cheap because we also bought tons of other items from him). In NYC we used to charge for the studio stand @$150/day. But here in Chicago we just include it with our grip package. A good studio stand is a great add-on for the client renting the space. And on the stand we put one of the studio's three 405 Manfrotto heads. Sometimes I shoot at a Chicago-based ad agency's studio and they have crappy studio stands. There are no separate up/down and side movements so every time I want to raise the stand arm it swivels a bit and we call it the "curse genie" since it magically makes whoever is using it say "f*ck"....

    Thank you for this great review. I'm really interested to buy a three way head and I have find this model: Manfrotto MHXPRO-3WG. Cheaper, I wonder if it's as efficient as the Manfrotto 410.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  9 місяців тому

      Have not tried that one, probably it will work great. If you have the chance to try both do that. 410 might be a bit more stable.

      @@botvidsson I won't have that chance. I like the way to release with handles and be more precise with the adjustment casters on the 3WG. But I think you're right about stability. It's hard to make a choice right now!

      @@MikeRouallo I have this head as well. I tried it recently with a 1Ds III and 180mm macro. The lens/camera setup is a bit unbalanced, but the head keeps it stable. The only downside is the limited range when tilting up. There is no hard stop, which allows you to tilt slightly beyond the max, and then the head is not stable. Tilting forward or to the side is no problem at all. New, this head costs around EUR 240, but I got it for 100 second hand.

      Ah, I see now, you wanted the: Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release with GP (Geared Panning) [8501303.1]. One great thing about the Cube is you're putting the camera in a sphere, making camera position adjustments to the subject minute compared to a regular 3-axis geared head.
