That's something I love about 2042, just like the previous games each map has a unique song which helps give each map identity. Hope they keep it in the next game.
As French, Metro doesn't really feel french as the Metro I know and take everyday. Outside is typically not parisian. The only place really "metro" is the train platform with the ads on the walls.
looking back on BF4 and its near future setting, i really enjoy the amount of speculation put into where DICE thought WW3 could take place in. Coupled with the music, just seeing the real life areas the battlegrounds are based on fills me with a strange feeling of dread, ESPECIALLY ones like Hainan Resort or Operation Mortar with their tourist attraction/vacation hotspot settings. Nice work!
Rogue Transmission's real life location is actually in Arecibo, Puerto rico. Ironically a few years ago the telescope colapsed exacly like in BF4 because of lack of maintenance lol
This a common confusion regarding the location of Rogue Transmission. Yes, the radio telescope in the map was modeled after the one in Arecibo, however, in the context of Battlefield 4's lore it makes no sense for the map itself to take place in Arecibo instead of Tianyan. I mean, why would China and Russia (the two cannonical teams in the map) be fighting each other in Puerto Rico? The radio telescope was likely modeled after Arecibo because Tianyan was only finished in 2016 (3 years after BF4 had been released), so DICE went with the closest reference they had available during development.
I kinda feel why Chinese government banned this game... you see, a lot of locations are the Chinese borders. Ironically, a DLC called "China Rising" sets four map locations in China itself, rather than China goes to Hawaii which was done by WW2 empirical Japanese army.
China banned this game because they were depicted as bad guys by the story - which is funny since a Chinese military coup fighting civilian resistance is perfectly in line with their history
Ive come to the realization that main bf titles will not have US cities as maps. For modern day that is. No country can assemble enemy troops in the mainland US as of right now. Only the US can deploy troops to its near adversaries territories, given all the bases the US has. Chinas navy as of right now, is focused in the south china sea.
Man, I loved the video, especially you using logical reasons for like changing locations, for example you said Rouge Transmission probably takes place there because it wouldn't make sense for Russia and China to fight in Puerto Rico, you earned a new sub.
Thank you very much. I have been looking for exactly this type of video, like a year ago. I didnt play bf4 for 9mon because i didnt have a tv, and i just started playing it again and your video is just in time
Yeah, while researching for the video I did see a few people saying Rogue Transmission is in Arecibo instead of Tianyan, but the problem with that theory is that, while DICE clearly used Arecibo as a reference for the model of the radiotelescope, in the context of Battlefield 4's lore it makes no sense for the map itself to take place in Arecibo instead of Tianyan. I mean, why would China and Russia (the two canonical teams in the map) be fighting each other in Puerto Rico? I believe the reason it looks like Arecibo is probably because Tianyan was only finished around 2016 (3 years after BF4 was released), so DICE went with the closest reference they had available when the game was in development.
@@FelipeGabe I had never thought of that, it really makes sense! The structure used is undoubtedly that of the Arecibo telescope, but it doesn't make sense for it to be in Puerto Rico!
@@IlNamelessKinglI It does if you know that China is also kind of having its usual civil war shenanigans, with US and RU aligned units respectively in BF4
@@IlNamelessKinglI It makes sense both geopolitically and in the context of the game, The Chinese have shown increased interest in taking Siberia from Russia, and in the game, Russia supports the Coup on Xin Xie. So either China is fighting Russia because of this, or Russia refused to withdraw troops after the coup ended.
There are two mistakes I see in Siege of Shanghai, one is the Huangpu River is a little bit too wide, making the skyscrapers at Pudong District farther away from the tower (Flag B, per Conquest Small, since I play PS3), second is the distance between the Shanghai Tower and Pearl Tower is too far away from each other. But overall, it's a very good map design to play around.
Yeah, maps ingame are definitely not exact replicas of their real world counterparts, likely because it wouldn't make for good gameplay really. It is still cool to see where the inspiration was drawn from though.
Giants of Karelia being placed in Karelia never made sense to me, the area is clearly mountainous and not hilly like Karelia. It would make more sense for the map to be placed in southern Urals.
rogue transmission is literally designed after the Arecibo obsevatory in Puerto Rico. Maybe in-game lore placed it in china, though there was no clear mention of it anywhere. you should have shown Arecibo which its antenna collapsed in 2020, which is year bf4 is happening

Nah it was part of the end. I initially thought so as welll, but the Wiki lists the map as being in the Irainian coast, in Bandar-e-Jask. Also, in the map, the body of water is to the south, so the only way for it to still be near the Gulf of Oman with the sea being to the south is for it to take place in Iran.

That's a great video. I wonder where the information about the location of the maps of the Final Stand came from? It's not clear how the attacking party is going to gain a foothold there, it's remote from the infrastructure, where there is no provisions or electricity and it's quite cold, and in principle the capture of these territories does not give any special advantages, except to steal and destroy the latest Russian equipment. Just look on the map where the Chersky Ridge is located.
The info for the Final Stand maps (and pretty much all maps in this video) is from the BF4 Wikia. Regarding why attack those remote locations, I think your own comment answers it: To steal and destroy the latest Russian equipment. In the BF4 Final Stand trailer it is mentioned that intel gathered in China lead the Americans to believe Russia is "arming for the next evolution of Warfare", and in every the Final Stand map, the US is attacking a secret facility that is developing some sort of experimental weapon (like the Titan in Hangar 21 for instance), and the middle of nowhere Is exactly where that kind of facility would be located. So, in the game's lore, I think the goal of the Americans isn't really to conquer Russia, but to weaken its weapon development capabilities.
