Even in Saltatio Mortis is a german Band. The language is not german. As far as I know it is old norse. Alea the singer learned it for this song. If you like this one you defenetly should check out "pray to the hunter". Or "the dragonborn comes" greetings from Germany 😃

The basis is an old Old Norse Viking poem. It was spoken from around 800 to 1350 AD, in various variations. Old English and German are related to it.
The filming location was a LARP village in Germany, the actors are the role players of the village and walk around there in these costumes. You can also find the village and the actors in this video:

My daughter (12) loves this version and really liked your reaction to her favourite song. Well done 💪

Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval metal band with at least one foot in the fantasy/LARP-Genre. And they do awesome videos. :)
Someone below wrote that the location this was shot in was a LARP village, but that's not completely correct. "Pray to the hunter" was done in a LARP-village - the location for this video belongs to a group doing Viking re-enactment and is also a museum. One can visit it (or could, pre-COVID). It is nowhere near the sea, though.
The folks seen in the video, are mostly friends of the band, to my knowledge - As Alea, the singer, is a cosplayer and knows a lot of cosplayers, I have the idea that about once a year, they all meet and do a video in garb. At least you will find several people in recurring appearances... :)))
(He actually makes all the attire he wears in these videos himself, or so I read).
If you are in for more Fantasy-Folk-metal and people looking it (and have done the Skyrim-related songs - which are awesome ), you might want to try their latest video of that sort, which is "God of war", and is a collab with Peyton Parrish (I think it's on his channel).
As for collabs - diving deeper in the rabbit hole of German medieval metal or German metal in general, you will inevitably notice that they do this a lot, and a familiar face may pop up as a featured artist or just like that at any given time. Now in comparison to the US, Germany is not big (even with 82 Million inhabitants), and the medieval scene is not either. They all tour the same festivals and fairs at times, so everbody knows everybody from somewhere... And the metal scene over here is in general very supportive, which is why there are so many collabs.
Have fun, and enjoy... or, to quote Avicii - "there's an endless road to rediscover". :)

Medieval/Folk Metal has a very, very long tradition in Germany, and Saltatio Mortis were one of the first bands. You could look up other bands like In Extremo, Subway to Sally, Corvus Corax, Tanzwut, but also Italian bands like Folkstone, Langobardeath, Nanowar of Steel (yes, they used to be into medieval folk metal, look up videos like Feudalesimo é Libertad or La Polenta Taragnarock) and the NoS and Folkstone "crossover" BardoMagno. Have fun, man!

The song is an ancient Norse Skaldic song composed by Egil Skallagrímsson in the 8th century and transcribed from an oral saga in the 12th century. The lead singer is deeply involved in LARP, and all of the actors in the video are members of the LARP community. The video represents Holmgang, the Norse method of settling disputes which involves formal combat between the two parties. The method of combat was by mutual agreement and might be with or without weapons. How the settlement was to be decided was also by mutual consent and could be ended by capitulation, first blood, or death.

The language is Old Icelandic which is a variety of Old Norse.
Other songs to check out: Finsterwacht (featuring Blind Guardian), Pray to the Hunter and their version of The Dragonborn Comes (featuring Lara Loft).
    As for other bands:
    - Faun is a German folk/medieval music band that has a lot of cool songs; in particular I'd recommend their song Gwydion (a collaboration with Eluveitie). Walpurgisnacht is another great song.
And of course you can never go wrong with more Heilung and Feuerschwanz (Bastard von Asgard, Kampfzwerg or Untot im Drachenboot would be cool to see).

SaMo are just the nicest guys ever. And Alea is the coolest! Cosplayer, gamer, martial artist, not to mention the coolest hair! My favourites are Wo sind die Clowns and Loki. There's two songs in English based on The Elder Scrolls -The Dragonborne Comes and Pray to the Hunter (about Hircine). Also, as I mentioned before there's a great song by Schandmaul called Konigsgarde featuring Hodi from Feuerschwanz and Alea and Luzi from SaMo, which appears to be filmed in the same places they filmed their respective parts for Warriors of the World United.

It is, I think, from Egil's Saga
    so is in Old Norse
    Þat mælti mín móðir,
    at mér skyldi kaupa
    fley ok fagrar árar,
    fara á brott með víkingum,
    standa upp í stafni,
    stýra dýrum knerri,
    halda svá til hafnar
    höggva mann ok annan.
A language that gave to English
    and its descendent languages
are Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish
and as it is a Germanic language it is also connected to
    German and Dutch.

old norse. you know what? there was this really really cool tv-series, called "beforeigners", an HBO and NRK production. the first season was really really awesome.
Beforeigners is set in Oslo, where people from the Stone Age, Viking Age, and the 19th century appear in Bjørvika bay. These migrants, or "Beforeigners", attempt to integrate into contemporary Norway. Senior detective Lars and Viking-era recruit Alfhildr investigate a Stone Age woman's murder. Alfhildr and fellow shield-maiden Urðr help their Viking commander, Thorir Hund. Lars' daughter, Ingrid, and her friend Maddie, fake a "time migration" for Russefeiring. Maddie returns older and with visions of the past. Maddie welcomes the arrival of Olaf the Stout. [7][8]
in this series you hear a lot of spoken old norse, and way better made than "vikings"
plus it features my all time favourit supporting cast, ágústa eva erlendsdóttir. she plays the role of shieldmaid urðr sighvatsdóttir in such brilliance and authenticy. she rocks, i'm in love with her.

I wish that, at the video's end, after getting all war-painted up, the two foes walked out and sat down facing each other at a chess board. That would have been unexpected and perfect -- a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of cognitive dissonance. (-; ••• Thanks! PEACES!!!

and let me just reccomend a music video by björk. not only is she a phenomenal artist and has become synonymous for iceland and pushing boundaries for more than four decades now, but she has also done some freaking amazing music videos, and some of them are named under the best music videos of ALL TIMES, mate! all times! all is full of love is directed by chris cunningham in 1997. this is a masterpiece and you will not believe its age when you see it.
or the music video for stonemilker in vitual reality, where you can play with the video, turn the camera and the angle of it.

And correction: The Virtuosos Concert will not premiere tomorrow but the day after. (Friday, the 19th) Time passes too slowly. 😭
It’s a competition show for young musicians, where both singers were judges - and they already sang together. ☺️ The suspense is killing me! 😅😂
