In the Philippines, its not acceptable to sing the national anthem other than how it is supposed to be sung. You could get fined if you are a popular singer and had sung the anthem in a wrong manner. That is what miss Salonga did too in the Star Spangled Banner, utmost respect to the national hymn needs to be observed, and not the singer's own version of the song.

I really love her voice. Nobody sings like this nowadays. It’s so clean and clear. I used to like the soulful, r&b singing style with those runs. I thought that it was cool and tried to sing like that. Now I really appreciate this clean singing. Just hit the notes, no excessive runs, no over sing. Nothing less or more. Filipinos are trained to sing the national anthem as solemnly as possible. We have to respect the anthem. So we can't make our own rendition. But that's here in the Philippines. I am not sure in the US. Sad to say but Fergie's and Steve Tyler's were the worst but I guess they have the freedom to interpret the song as their own.
