The storm was predicted to be a TS at landfall. And it went from a TS to C5 in 24hrs.
Every. Single. Model. was wrong. None even predicted to be a C1. And this storm only gave Acapulco 12 hours max to prepare.
Nobody knew anything, and people were probably partying that night, thinking that the rain was just rain, when it was really Otis coming at them.
Truly a horrible situation, and this storm is one, if not, the worst-case scenario storm I have ever seen.

Makes me think back to 2005, just prior to hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans. It wasn’t expected to be a cat. 5, but then in a many of no time practically, it became a disaster! And happened as Israel was being forced to give up their homes and businesses in Gaza. and turn it all over to terrorists. 🧐

One of my best friends lives in Acapulco. His entire neighborhood got demolished. He has no electricity, no phone signal or running water. Local stores are getting looted and he got injured when a big piece of glass flew into his leg from a shattered window. I can't even contact him at the moment and it makes me feel so powerless. I pray for everybody who got hit in Acapulco by this storm. It's simply terrible.

@@sonneversets3530 He send me whatsapp messages two days ago and gave his phone to his stepdad who has family all the way up north in Guerrero, hoping there would be a signal there. There is, in fact, cellphone signal there and his phone was able to send those messages when his stepdad arrived there today, so I at least know how his situation was two days ago.
He himself has no way of contacting the outside world and right now, the messages I sent him back will only be read by him when his stepdad returns in a few days. If there's still no way of communicating by then, I'll be left in the dark once more and simply have to wait.

    • @jhconjr

I don't know how many times you have been to Mexico or where. I'm an airline pilot who flies down there a lot. Everyone I meet at the airports, the hotels and out in town tend to be friendly and helpful and they normally get paid a small fraction of what people here make and generally live much more simply. Americans tend to be spoiled and selfish and I say that as someone who was born and raised here. Mexicans tend to do a lot less complaining, also. I could have said all that, but saying Mexicans are wonderful is simpler to do.
My experience is that wherever you go (I've been to about 40 countries and most of the states), people tend to respond to you the way you treat them. Even in Paris (considered one of the less friendly places around), people were friendly, as long as I didn't walk up to them and start talking loudly in English.

Has there been any word on relief supply drop off locations in the southeast US. I'll never forget the year of Katrina. It wasn't only her. It was several storms lining up and hitting back to back. The 1st storm I really remember going through (because I was old enough to realize what was happening) was Hugo in '89. My mom's entire family lived in Charleston. We live in Savannah. I was living with my grandparents at the time. We evacuated the Walterboro SC during landfall. We went back to Charleston the next day. We lived on James Island. Which is basically 1 island away from the Atlantic. Folly Beach was the beach island next to James Island. The devastation was total destruction everywhere. It was so sad to see. The next day my parents brought a big trailered diesel generator. My stepdad worked for Bobcat and had access to this type of equipment. When they came into James Island they had several cops trying to confiscate the generator from them. I don't know what they did to stop them from taking it, but they didn't get it. Anywho, sorry I rambled about my experiences. This is about all the people that are dealing with a major disaster. My prayers go to all dealing & helping to bring help to everyone that needs it.

The storm passed through very quickly, but if memory serves me correctly, they were stranded there for about 10 days and were holed up at a school that was turned into an emergency shelter. This here, was like a weather bomb that seemingly destroyed this popular resort city. Water temperatures in that region of the Pacific are in the low 90’s, but the rate at which it strengthened took everyone, including the weather experts, off guard.

The other point is the world population is continuing to expand and will until at least 2050 and we are incredibly naive and stupid if we think we can just just the door on the problem. Shutting the door to immigrants only exacerbates the problem destabilizing their countries of origin. And when their is a destabilizing problem in a foreign country it often affects the US directly.

When they have open house tours I always go.
