    While I don’t mind rift hunting, I think people were expecting something like the Aurora, Vision, or Gen 2 legendary weapon collections.
    Where you had to do a bunch of cool stuff around the world to unlock part of the legendary instead of just spamming rifts over and over.

    OK for those who think that 2 months for a legendary armor piece is too long and that it is an insane grind, just check the equivalent in any other mmo. You will realise that the grind is actually shorter in GW2 and it is for a permanent piece of gear that will always be the best that you can get. For example, FF14 has relics, the grind is insane, they release a new tier with each patch and a new and better set with each expansion. So if you want the equivalent of a GW2 legendary weapon in FF14, you engage youself in a permanent grind until you stop playing. In GW2 it's a few month of what can be a casual grind and you're done. Seriously stop acting like spoiled brats.

      BDO's my first MMO, played it for a year or 2 on and off, and I never got a full PEN armor set, this the highest possible upgrade level a piece of gear can have. (or at least last I played)
      because getting it via upgrading was basically gambling, and buying it with in-game money was mind numbing.
      You log-in, pour 5 hours of killing trash mobs in a circle, log-out. That's what the majority of your playtime will be spent on.
      BDO's also the type of game where people would keep their PC open while they go work during the day.
      BDO has a system where you can leave a characrer AFK doing life skill activities.
      So people would leave their PCs open for 8-12 hours while they sleep, do grocery, or go to work. And the money they make for basically keeping their PCs running 24/7? Just "decent" not a lot, just decent. Probably the same amount of money you make in GW2 by doing dailies.
      And just to top it all off...
      All this grinding is just for a piece of gear that's probably Exotic equivalent in GW2 in terms of stats... There's another tier of gear set called "Blackstar" where you will have to do all this and learn other systems that you will have to grind for to fully utilize.
      When I switched to GW2 I never felt so pampered by an MMO in my life 😂

      This, and you can do it with minimal rifting anyway, you don't need to sit on a map and do rifts all day, just do 3 convergences a week and some weekly rifts too, easy as fuck

    • @ANythingsGood-of6uu
      @ANythingsGood-of6uu День тому

      Thats 2 months for a single set of armor if you grind for 90% of that time doing dailies/weeklies nonstop and if you're playing many chars you probably want all 3 so that's 6 months non-stop grinding. Not even wow requires that much investment if you want legendary from a boss.
      I understand the grind and like it because i want to fill my time but i can also look at the pov of someone who can't even do all soto daily events everyday. Having to spend more than half a year of repetetive content every single day that might sometimes not even succeed is something i wouldnt approach as a casual player, ever.

    • @maximetauran3415
      @maximetauran3415 День тому

      @@ANythingsGood-of6uu I feel like you are comparing apples to oranges. I have not played wow so that's why i'm going to ask. What does it requires to have a full legendary armor set? Being a classic mmo, wow has a gear treadmill, does it include legendaries? Can you switch stats on the fly? Having played FF14, I know that "legendaries" don't have those quality of life features, that's why I used them as an exemple. So even if it is easier and faster in wow to have legendary gear, I think that GW2 grind is still worth it and not that bad concidering everything that you get.
      But I agree with you that not all players should start grindding for a legendary. I do it because I still see myself playing GW2 for the next years and I go at my own pace.

  • @ognyannedev5979

    the problem is that it needed a very specific grind and the "open world" was a very small part from 1 expansion. Usually with legendaries you can choose how to farm the necessary gold, t6 materials, etc. This one just wanted you to farm 1 event a gajilion times.

    • @davidmorris2234
      @davidmorris2234 4 дні тому

      Excellent point. It would have been so much better if Anet had made the new Legendary armor journey require the SotO expansion, but spread the events needed to obtain the resources to other maps from all expansions. This would encourage players to purchase all of the expansions and make the grind more interesting. Even better would be to make a few different types of events that reward the players with resources to craft the new Legendary armor, so they could choose which type of events they enjoy, instead of just repeating the same type of events over and over again.

  • @WidsithQuill
    @WidsithQuill 4 дні тому +4

    Rifts are exactly what they are supposed to be. First, they are a profitable daily activity, yeah it doesn't just give you the most valuable materials or liquid gold, but in a gold per hour sense they've always been decent, and at some points were some of the best gold per hour in the game, if you were willing to craft motivations. Second, they helped shore up some of the economy's weak points (one thing SotO did actually really well, as far as I can tell, the amount of gold even the most causal of players can get quickly has definitely increased). Third, they provided a very easy, no surprises, even boring way to get Legendary armor, that is perfectly scalable and doesn't have any wait time. Can you imagine how bad it would be if you needed to do a similar amount of world bosses instead, you'd be waiting around doing nothing for the bosses to spawn for HOURS of accumulated time. Fourth, most importantly they direct players to other, more challenging content. This is key, so many players just assume that they aren't good enough to try harder content. If you find rifts unbearably boring that is supposed to direct you toward the slightly harder convergences, or even better, PvP, WvW, or Raids. This is a good thing. Are they perfect? No, definitely not, but I don't think I've heard of or thought of a better way to pull this off.

    I have no interest in making a set of obsidian armor any time some, because I do weekly raids and that just flows together well, but I still enjoy doing some rift hunting trains. As you said it’s just something I can do while barely paying attention and often that’s exactly what I want.
    I will say though that I’m a little disappointed in the actual path to obsidian armor, not in terms of cost or difficulty or anything, but variety is lacking. When it was announced I was really hoping for some collections that would require a whole bunch of world bosses, because that’s what open world players already enjoy and it would’ve been really cool to do that, but it’s pretty much only rifts and I don’t find that very inspiring, even if the rifts themselves are fun.

      The suffused tier 2 legendary open world is that. A collection for all intents and purposes. bunch of events, world bosses (its only 3). but that gets you 2 pieces of your 6 leggy armor suffused and you do it 2 more times for the whole set. The big component for one of the gifts on each piece and are basically do 5 meta events in the soto maps. or you can farm events to get the map currency for that.

    As someone who only got Soto a week ago, I've not found the rift farming that bad so far.
    My issue with it is what it COULD have been - It was supposed to be an Open World armor set where you can just play the game in the open world and get the armor, instead it's just 1 thing you do in the open world over and over or do convergences (That sometimes fail in public groups).
    How is this open world?

    • @ieatyoulol
      @ieatyoulol  4 дні тому

      well while convergences certainly help farm the essence faster, they aren't REQUIRED for the base legendary armor, only the teir 2 skin upgrade. everything that is required for the obsidian armor is open world. meta events, rift hunting, unusual coins and lighting the lanterns (maybe you could loosely call that exploration?) provisioner tokens, map completion, the achievements for the precursor pieces require you to track down and kill a certain champion boss in the open world which was pretty cool. you definitely can't just do whatever open world content you want, sure, but at least it's all open world which is what was most important for me.

    • @jaroslav3905
      @jaroslav3905 4 дні тому +1

      When they said grindy open world armor, I thought there would be more connection to other content. Like with precursor colletcions - do a bunch of world bosses, metas a fractal or two, some rifts etc. I wouldn't even mind it going through other expansions but that it's pretty much soto only? That's a shame and a missed opportunity if you ask me.

    The biggest issue I find with rifts is getting nothing but the account bound essences. (makes things feel unrewarding)
    It would probably be much more bearable if the event mobs had at least a minor chance to drop some type of crafting mat with value.
    All the other legendary farms give other currencies. (I switched completely to convergences when those came out, since they at least give champ bags and a chance at supreme runes of holding)

If the weekly map is frostforge sound or some other map with a solid map bonus for example if it’s vials of powerful blood you average out 1.1 vial per rift closed 1.1 x 40s x 15rifts per hr= 6.6 gold per hr from just the map bonus. When I was farming t3 rifts I’d often get 2 unstable kryptis motivations per hr so 16 gold at current prices. 16+6.6= 22.2 gold per hr just from those two alone not including the spirit shards/essences or other things you get from rift hunting. So in total you get around 30-40 gold per hr

    Bro for real, i made 2 obsidian sets and i only made weekly rifts (1 or 2 per day, started 1 month after they came out) and weekly convergences (started 2 weeks after they came out) the metas i made 1 sometimes 2 in a day every now and then; didn't even made them every single day. The thing i noticed would take me longer was the weird or uncommon coins (don't know their name in english, the ones from the chests around the maps) but then i found out by myself a pretty nice route in Skywatch Archipelago to open 9 of the big chests in around 10 mins that got me 100ish coins per run. When the obsidian set released i was able to craft the first on second day because i decided to take my time with the lantern lighting and then 2 more weeks for the second set. Didn't even feel like a chore and didn't craft any motivations; all i did was a few mins of each thing and that was it. Extremely surprised at how chill it is to craft the set.

    I was very happy when i knew about a PVE Legendary Armor in development, but all the happyness was destroyed when i knew about how you get:
    In example, Raids armor, you have to all the Raids; Fractal backpack, you have to make lot of different fractals; legendary trinkets, you have to make lot of different collections and kill different mobs on different locations. Even the skyscale was fine, making around the world from the egg to the adult.
    Now, with Soto, the skyscale is almost for free, and the obsidian armor is locked on Soto map, making 10000000000 times the same. I was hopping that the PVE armor requires all the expansions, all the maps, all the seasons, and new collections and subcollections about discovering new things. That would be an EPIC PVE legendary crafting... not rift hunting. For "event hunting" i prefer WvW, is funnier

    It reminds me of the old way of getting the skyscale and how people hatet the grind that was involved in some of the steps. I enjoyed it when I did it, but I didn't rush it as well. It took me 3-4 months, sometimes I wasn't working on it for a whole week, because I was busy doing other stuff I was persuing as well or just wanted to hang out within the game. If I had hyper-focused on only unlocking the skyscale I would have gotten frustrated as well. For the legendary armor and rift hunting I plan to do the same approach as well. So far I only casually did rifts, mostly while I was in an area that did have rifts along with other events. I have been playing this game since release, and I plan playing this game for years to come. I am not in a hurry to get it done.

      I also unlocked the skyscale (old method) very casually over about the same ammount of time, a good handful of months. loved it as well except for a couple little parts. felt really cool going all over the world doing achievements, gathering things, watching it grow up. I haven't looked much into the new faster method of acquisition in soto but I'm sure it would have to be a bit less rewarding in the end since it's so streamlined now. but ultimately I think it's good to have that faster option.

    I am your average gw2 enjoyer, I like pve, instanced content, a little bit of wvw. No CM's, only completed them by chance. My main problem was that during 12 years of playing, i was easily bored. Raid leg armor was quite easy for me to farm, because raids had quite interesting fights, not requiring too much of a training (except a few) in my opinion. and while doing it you also could get quite a lot of gold and some nice ascended loot (i can even say that i have done it more for gold and after some time decided to go for leggy)
    Rifts on the other side requre an enormous amount of repeatative content. It supposed to be PvE armor, but instead of doing different metas, events and map completion you are bound to do one and the same content, not too interesting on top of it. And you cant even skip it with gold. Anet should either change the crafting process by switching the half of the essenses with other open world content, or just make them tradable.
    Im bored as fck with rifts and im not even the half way through first set. Doing rifst for a few last weeks in a casual pace.
    If not for fashion i wouldn't have done it at all, but i like visuals of light and medium set much more than Raid leggy armor

      rift hunting is just one part of the process to obtain the armor, you do also have to do the meta events, map completion, exploration, achievements for the precursors that get you to find and kill specific champions etc. and just so you know you can actually throw gold at it to skip all grinding for the essence of you want by buying unstable kryptis motivations from the TP. opening those gives you all 3 tiers of essence. it's just going to cost you an arm and a leg which is fair enough if you ask me. if you want to get the open world legendary set but skip the open world content.

      @iEatyouLOL I know, but exploration and completion are tied to one region of the expack. When they announced the open world leggy armor, I hoped that it would revitalize the old pve content, that i could repeat some old long forgotten content but instead, they made a boring event grind on the old maps. In the end, people are grinding rifts on maps like Istan from LWS4 for additional bonuses of volatile magic and karma from enrichments.
      The gold skip for essenses is just ridiculous. That is just too expensive, in my opinion.
      In the end, the thing is that they could have done it in a nice and variative way, refreshing a lot of old open world content, but they did it in a boring and lazy way.
      I think it would have been nice to add some item from metas all other the world, or maybe even JP, how they did in Gen 2 leggies

    I did all pieces of Obsidian armor save for 2 pieces of light armor that I had done in WvW. To be honest, the WvW were FAR more of a grind than the PvE. All I did was one convergence a day, and then one meta event per map a day. Doing whatever map completions/lantern runs when I needed to, each piece took me 2 - 3 weeks to complete. Not completely unreasonable. I don't raid, and I'm only going to do WvW again to grind for another conflux although I'm waiting to see about the public raids, if they give out Legendary insights as rewards, then I'm making coalescence.

    TBH the long part for me is more about the 600 ecto.
    Rift hunting is "easy" , just do your public convergence before (wich give also a gooood amount of essences) then weekly right and you are almost done.
    You can redo Convergence every time it pop, it's less than 30 min , many gold to do, many essences.
    But 600 ecto needed is pain in ass.

      yea I can definitely understand the ectos seeming tedious for people who didnt already have a bunch since the price for them skyrocketed. • @EyesOfGehenna
    @EyesOfGehenna 4 дні тому

    The thing is that rift hunting is extremely repetitive and you have to do a lot of them. So that generally means that boredom sets in quite soon. Now, that doesn't go for everybody clearly because we all have different thresholds for grinding but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's fun. And a lot of people don't go for Obsidian armor to begin with. Personally I already got my legendary armor sets in WvW so I didn't need more legendary armor but also once you have your Obsidian armor, you will likely stop doing them entirely. That's why over time you see fewer people rifting (at least from my experience). And since there will be no more rifting in JaWi, it stands to reason that they consider this a failure.

    I only just came back to GW2 after a year long break and literally started rift hunting today.
    Sadly, I'm still disappointed. I used to play an old MMO called Rift that ANet presumably took the idea from. That made me hope that the content will be at least similar to the rifts in that game. Sadly it's absurdly simplified with just one (I assume, having done a few dozen) basic encounter type of clearing some trash and then fighting a single, simple boss. That's not even 1% of variety that old game had.
    If you're interested in that perspective I think Rift is free to play on Steam, so if you have even an hour or two to burn you will see how the most basic ones look there. Well worth it I my opinion.

    The map currencies are the biggest pain. I don't mind the rifts as much since with convergence buff plus motivations you get a ton, but it is kind of annoying to dip into the essences you are saving to make motivations. They are pretty expensive to make also, sadly.
    Side note: I have sPvP medium legendary since I started it a long time ago (years), and only recently finished it because I hate sPvP and the ascended shard grind is ridiculous. I have enough tickets for a whole second set, but not doing more ascended shard grinding again (Id rather do the rift grind 2x than do that again). Working on my heavy through the open world set, and I am going to get light from WvW and am about a third of the way through that set.

      you can absolutely do it solo, if you have a good build (mobility or pulls for the trash mobs, big burst dmg for the boss) it wont even slow you down that much, but probably a small group of players is optimal. Usually if you just chuck a message in map chat or throw up your own LFG you can find some players. A mentor or commander tag will help a LOT as well, players always flock to those on the map.
      Using motivations is up to you, basically using them speeds up your accquisition of essense by a significant ammount but costs you gold. So you can do it slower and cheaper by not using them, or faster by throwing some gold at it. Buying motivations from the TP is the most expensive and fastest. I crafted my motivations myself which saves a BIT of gold but isnt quite as fast since youre using essence to craft motivations.

    Underrated point in the discussion of rift hunting vs other armor types: open world PvE is without a doubt the worst performing part of the game. You're not only signing up to do open world rift or convergence events for months to farm the essences, you're signing up for basically unplayable 20-40FPS gameplay OR severely turned down graphical settings (we're talking low to lowest on model limit and quality, no shadows, limited animations, etc.) while you and a balled group of players kind of just throw aoes out on repeat. Compare that to raids, where they actually run quite smoothly and there's a lot more visual acuity, PVP which runs even smoother, and WvW where admittedly there's very much a boon-ball and frame-killing group aspect, but much less monotonous in the content itself I'd argue.
    I just don't understand the argument for doing open world weekly for months over raids when you can complete essentially 4 wings for the same amount of time once a week to make more than enough LI for the armor, and you get not one but two whole sets of armor during it. Your enjoyment of open world rift hunting because it's reminiscent of the mindless MMO is why I think you enjoyed it so much, but I'd argue that the majority of players are the opposite.

    • @Lannachi
      @Lannachi 5 днів тому +1

      If you are able to reliably get into raids every week, sure. I have crafted one and a half sets of obsidian armor, but I have only gotten 40 LI in the same time frame which is a long way off then the 300 I would need for a second set. But that's also the great thing - you don't have to ever craft a single piece of obsidian armor if you don't enjoy it or don't want to. It's an option that's available, and you don't have to do it.

Skein Gang, Raid Academy, Xcellence (NA), Raiders Inn (EU), Hardstuck, Darens channel, Calculated Risk, Void Lounge, Emidotexe's server all run multiple training runs a week. Specifically Skein Gang, if you practice your build and come in slightly prepared, you will easily get into a static where you have guaranteed players every week to run raids with you. Other than obsidian armor, whats the benefit from convergences? why wouldn't I just do fractals or strikes or raids if I wanted more benefit and not a load of essences? convergences offer a slightly more efficient return on essence than rifts, you just need a very slightly more organised group and theres set times where you do it. The rifts are just the system that exists in the open world. You know for the open world obtainable legendary armor set. just to be clear I've ended up doing a mix of both, like 50/50. The way you make gold from this content from what I understand is crafting and selling motivations to other players if you don't need the essence.
