If someone told Destiny that Sheev Palpatine was a Sith Lord who controlled both sides of the Clone War, Destiny would feel very dissatisfied by the lack of evidence.

Who would have thought that the 2008 meme “cool story, bro” would be the way to dismantle a conspiracy theory
Who would've thought that people would be overthinking wtf a conspiracy theory is, as if it's meaning is or has to be that deep. I guess people have been overusing it so much incorrectly, that now folks are confused about what it actually means to the point there's multi stage explanations for it.
@@blueisacolor7639or maybe like most things in life it's just more complex then it initially seems? Crazy idea
@@guncheque3026 hey, maybe you're right. Maybe the term "lie" isn't actually "an intentionally false statement", maybe there's more to what defines it than what it's literally defined as. I appreciate the wise input.
@@blueisacolor7639 Meaning of words changes over time although we certainly risk diluting the meaning of words through overuse. Like right-wingers when they suggest anyone with a pro-LGBT position is a "groomer" which is a hyperbolic use of the word intended to disparage someone they dislike. This misuse of "groomer" is especially funny for people who cry so much about the definition of other words but regardless, their misuse is giving a LOT of cover to _actual_ groomers, who are also overwhelmingly right-wing.
I know the inverse of this is for left-wingers to call anyone right-of-center a "fascist" and/or "Nazi" but it's clear to anybody with eyeballs that this happens a LOT less than the right-wing equivalent. Everyone knows lefties are much better educated and so we understand the importance of being exacting in our language. So when a left-wing individual points out something is a "conspiracy theory" there is a good chance they're right.
@@UnderTheIceburg not sure why so much of that right wing left wing rant was needed. It comes off like saying "right and left overuse words but i see more right wing as less educated, so when left does it they're probably right". Regardless of how horrible I think the logic leading up to that conclusion came to be, that opinion would hold just as much weight to me as if someone came to the opposite. Both of which idgaf too much about.
There's a difference between changing a definition later and a definition being what it is now. If the term "blue" was defined as "to pull", that's what it is. Meaning pulling is it. If the term changes later to mean "to pull something pushed" that's what it is, whenever it changes to that. The definition changing to that, doesn't mean it's always been that way or that you were right about that just because you mentioned that changed definition beforehand. It's different from the first definition, regardless. Expanding or inflating it doesn't mean it was originally wrong. It's just something folks agreed on changing it to mean something else, instead.
When Jordan Peterson interviewed Michael Malice, he questioned the use of "they" as in "they don't want you to know", and he called it conspiratorial language
The problem comes when you name "them" and then get labelled a conspiracy theorist as though you've been vague.
People don’t specify “they” because you’ll get debanked, put on a no fly list, black listed from work, etc.
Any examples of people who have specified who “they” are and been debanked, put on a no fly list, black listed from work?
(((They)))... it's saying THE Jews withoit saying jews, and it's never "jews", it's "the jews".
"They" is who is doing it, I.E., using their safe government jobs for political gains, usually to increase the size of the state and literally shelter violent criminals and corrupt politicians.
A disproportional number of them are jews that celebrated octorber 7 on the day.

100% Destiny should talk to C. Thi Nguyen. He's one of the most interesting and fantastic philosophers right now who covers lots of things that Destiny is working on.
Games: Agency as Art is a tight piece of philosophy.
When is using the 'psychology of conspiracy theories' to prebunk conspiracy not a genetic fallacy?
If a truth claim is true based on evidence, why does the conspiratorial nature of the truth claim change its epistemic status?
Because the will in beliefs of the audience affect truth claims for UA-camrs
It doesn't but it is an heuristic when confronted with lots of facts that would radically change our view of the world and we don't have the time to check if every fact is true
That’s just a theory, a conspiracy theory.
Ironically, yes.

53:26 I think Destiny is talking about the Cathy Newman interview, which in fact was an excercise in purposeful misinterpretation regardless of one's views of Peterson. Rare Destiny L.
Yeah came here to say the same. It's weird how he retroactively tries to frame this as Peterson dodging.
No he did in fact not imply that we should organize our society like fucking lobsters.
Katie Newman was just out for gotchas.
this was so weird, they're talking about the "just asking questions ..." implications, but peterson never does that. The meme of this interview is truly that peterson says something and cathy always twists it to attack him and to insinuate implications which were never made
Saw that Cathy Newman debate, destiny is right, a lot of it was her pointing out the obvious point of his statement and him saying i didn't say it. The example i always give is i say, i saw your sister go behind the bleachers, going behind the bleachers is hoe behaviour, hoe behavior makes you a hoe. So you saying my sister is a hoe. No i didn't say that, i said blah blah blah. But also Cathy Newman wasn't a saint in the interview either.
Dunno if you picked up on this at the end of the interview when she asks Peterson what he thinks about "trumps comments on illegal immigrants" being "animals" or whatever it was he said, only for me to look up the clip, watch it in full context which only required a minute on either side of the quote, to discovery he is specifically talking about the gang MS13 that's composed almost exclusively of illegals and is extremely brutal and violent to cops and any people in the neighborhoods they operate and expand into, not not a blanket statement on illegals.
Her asking Peterson that is purely bad faith, to either get Jordan to agree or condone hateful language against just illegal migrants, or for him to disavow trump, and to impart into the minds of everyone watching that "trump said this horrible statement against all illegal migrants".
If that's not bad faith, propaganda, smear merchant behaviour I don't know what is
@@NetjunkyXXX Peterson absolutely does this kind of stuff. He just didn't do it in the Newman interview.
Destiny is talking about a person's worldviews. Many people frame reality through what they have expertise in such as what they do at their job or in their hobbies or interests. A fun example might be a person who is really into Star Wars movies frames things in that lore.
Lmao funny you say that since two comments already tried making Star Wars parallels in the comment section
@@SirGrimLockSmithVIIIlol That is funny. I just was thinking about Eric Forman in That 70s Show who was always doing that Star Wars referencing for his thoughts.
Steven deserves his props. Even in the intro the academic he's talking to speaks of the "Monological belief system". This is the "Web" that Destiny talks about. Destiny may not have formal training in most schools of thought, but the methodology behind his thinking is sound, and that is why he has these general ideas for things that map onto pre-existing operational conditions. Inb4 somebody tells me I'm being a simp or weird or whatever, I don't care. The man has a mode of thinking that is good, and we should try to emulate it, regardless of conclusions.
Critical thinking is good, true.
I am very logical so part of me is happy that he is starting to come closer to my thought process
This is a great convo, do more of these! Also talk to Tristan Harris if you can, about ethical technology
"Like in Scooby Doo". Destiny is really playing to his core audience.
Most conversations about conspiracy theories are pretty boring. His point about detective fiction is so on point. Brilliant take
Some similarities here to the Peter Boghossian street epistemology conversations… mainly getting “believers” to deconstruct and self-reflect on their beliefs, and the self-reflection is more effective than direct confrontation and “winning” debates. That was an interesting talk!
Random nitpick, but I’m pretty sure the noticeable chord that the Beatles tended to use a lot is actually the minor iv chord instead of the major IV, which was a very common substitute for the standard dominant resolution in late 1950s and early 1960s pop music. The Beatles used all sorts of modal interchange, and I wouldn’t be surprised they also regularly used a major III instead of the minor iii. The minor iv chord has such a distinct and unmistakable sound though, and once you show it to even non-musicians, it’s very easy for anyone to pick out. “Nowhere Man” is the song that always comes to mind for a very clear example using this chord
Really enjoyed this… you guys had a great flow going and this dude seems to have his feet on the ground, which is refreshing to say the least. Thanks!
It’s literally impossible for counter evidence to support the opposing claim cause in that case it wouldn’t be counter evidence it’d be evidence that could be supporting or not supporting depending on the context which it’s used and you generally wouldn’t want to bring something like that up to support your claims in a formal debate
Edit: that’s the reason that it doesn’t come up anywhere else cause it’s impossible 13:09
The reason you only get examples of this in your personal life is because you fail to accurately explain why this counter evidence isn’t supporting the opposing claim in which case it is literally a skill issue your just except illogical arguments which isn’t the fault of the theory it’s not the theories fault you can’t accurately explain your evidence
on the topic of religion (45:00): I think religion evolved as a way to fit the part of society, that's more suceptible to monocausal world explanations into society in a healthy way (so religion as an example for a empowering narrative)
That could be how religion sparked. Evidence suggests religion grew in prominence as societies grew. Your cap on the people you can know and trust is about 150. Religion made it easy to identify who you could trust in tribes over 150 people.
Yeah he's one of those that thinks that everything that got us here is the reason bad things happen. Religion is the biggest culprit of course. Dude's studying Qanon posts that are probbaly stings. I wouldn't be surprised if Qanon doesn't even exist. Everone talks about it, but I've never met a anyone interested in qanon
Are you suggesting Atheists don’t fall prey to ANY of these flaws in thinking? ❤
@@Macheako Got any examples?
@@garythecyclingnerd6219Do you think there is merit in the vast majority of our values, customs, and familiarity between citizens that religion brings to the table? I’m asking out of genuine curiosity. Also do you think it is possible for the social fabric of a country to exist without religion?
This was a great one
Wish the professor went into more about aesthetics, because it kind of is but is deeper than just “conspiracies give a vibe I’m attracted to” which seems to be how some of chat interpreted it. The relationship between our sense of beauty (which is shaped consciously and unconsciously) and our truth-tracking instincts/intuitions (which you follow to even try to come up with rational argument) he discusses is fascinating-speaking especially as a former mathematician, there are a huge percentage of mathematicians publishing logically correct things that are guided literally 100% by theirs aesthetic intuitions, that are just developed in a way to stay mathematically consistent as well. I work in industry now, and the sensation of working in pure maths to me always felt much more like writing poetry or music than any job I’ve tried that uses my math ability.
Occam's razor is a double-edged sword, often fallen upon by those who tend to brush over the fallacy of oversimplification.
Saying that doesnt invalidate Occams Razor. It usually just means that the reality is a bit more complex than the narrative, but that isnt a solid argument for a fantastical explanation.
Ex. The driver was drunk and lost controll, killing a family in a car going the opposite way.
The reality may be: The driver had one beer and hour before driving, swerved to not hit a deer and ended up in the opposite lane, killing a family in a car.
You cant use the double edged sword argument to jump to: The driver was injected with alcohol with a syringe planted in his seat by the FBI because he was an outspoken Trump supporter and his brakes was tampered with and the family in the other car wasnt killed by him, they were bodies the FBI had taken from a morgue and placed in a car in the middle of the road on the drivers usual route.
In other words, it's a call for neuance, not the fantastical.
@@Massivecarcrash also disproving the reasoning for somethin happening doesnt disprove the thing happening. Often major media companies will all push the same false narrative but the fact that there isnt a secret group of tiny hat wearing men standing around a table in the dark with their hands clasped planning it, doesnt make it not true

@@MassivecarcrashI didn't make the statement with the intent to invalidate Occam's razor. My intention was to highlight the misuse/abuse of the concept. I often find it referenced in cases where it isn't warranted, many times used to prop up structures mounted in a bedrock of intellectual laziness. It's a good tool, but it has limitations and a substantial amount of additional risk which must be actively accounted for in order to wield it properly.
I liked your example, regardless of your misinterpretation of my statement. I agree with you generally, and appreciate the effort you put into articulating your points.
Also, just for the record: the world is spherical, humans have set foot on the moon, and contrails aren't definitely chemtrails. But, within the government there's most likely more funny business going on than coddled members of the investor class will outwardly admit and want you to believe.
Trust. The reason conspiracies are rising is due to a societal collapse in institutional trust. Not just government, but all institutions. It’s just that people can change the government, they can’t change Wells Fargo.
Half of the reason, yeah. The other half is the institutions openly doing uh.. very questionable things. Hard not to believe the goverments are clownshows when they act like actual clowns.
Yet Destiny has 100% trust in institutions.
@@michaelh878 Because institutions are good? Like, America is set up in a way where all institutions are accountable to someone. The problem is, people don't understand how institutions work, so they'd rather explain problems we have in the world with "Well they want those problems to exist to oppress us", when in reality the explanation is incompetence in individuals or hyperpartisanship (which is caused by the people).
Infact, I would argue most problems that exist in this world are due to either ordinary people, or very specific individuals being incompetent.
@@DaDARKPassso then why is the interest rate currently 8%? In almost all of history, interest rates themselves were either considered immoral, or anything higher than 5% was immoral. Great guest and love exploring these emerging strategies to counter this thinking.
This is one of my favorite conversations I’ve watched of Destiny. Super interesting. I’m a conspiracy head and believe (almost) none of them and absolutely love arguing against the people who believe them.
You don't believe the ones that turn out to be real? lol
@@kristinewhitfield4110 I don’t put proven conspiracies in the same bucket as conspiracy theories. But if I’m being honest how many conspiracy theories were proven correct? Yes real conspiracy’s happen in real life but it’s never the theories that bang around the internet. Bernie Madoff was involved in a conspiracy. Donald Trump conspired to attempt to steal the election. But theses weren’t conspiracy theories that then went on to be proven right… If that makes sense. If there are any of those I am curious.
@destiny I’m curious if you’d be willing to discuss the idea that there are legitimately people and organizations that hold a lot of power. And is it not reasonable to assume that they would work to maintain power by many means necessary (maybe not all means). And lastly, is it not reasonable that at times to maintain power they do activities that are secretive, and conspiratorial - and public revelation of these tactics would disrupt their ability to keep trust and power.
In short - I think my main complaint with full stop, highly committed anti-conspiracy folks is that they seem to have this idealistic, utopian view of power that institutions can and should be trusted at all costs, and are free of any significant wrong doing.
It seems to be just as bland or uncritical way of creating a unifying theme as those whose unifying theme is that power is all evil and trying to control the masses.
Where’s the truth? Somewhere between?
It's funny, Liberals spent decades turning Conservatives into underdogs and now are desperatelly trying to give a fancy and rational explanation of why they think the world is after them. It's all a matter of perspective.
When you're born a liberal, your life is generally chill. Of course, the day-to-day life of getting a job, pating rent and food, and all the basic aspects of human existance are the same for everybody, and It's not easy. But everything surounding that is not confrontational. Entertainment feed you with the ideas and worldview you already agree with, social media does the same, and all of the major academic and journalistical institutions sanitize the world accordingly. The sense of safety and normalcy is something that I really wished to have felt growing up.
But as a born conservative, I can tell you It's a nightmare. The feeling of everything hating you is palpable. All the cultural, economic and political powers of the world not only hate you, but they want to make sure you know It. Everywhere you look there's someone or something telling you that your beliefs and your way of life are wrong and reprehensible. Say the wrong thing at the wrong time, both in person and in social media, and everything you have acomplished can be reduced to ashes. You have the right to exist of course, but only as long as you never look up, and never offer any threat the stablished order. Hell, saying that you hated a movie or a game these days makes you an extremist in the eyes of the media.
Considering that, it's easy to explain why Alex Jones start sounding good under that point of view. Liberals were extremely efficient in monopolizing power over society, and the lack of trust on the other side is symptom of that. They deliberatelly built a system hostile to anyone that is not a Liberal or was blessed with their sympathy (far-leftists), hoping to force assimilation. That however backfired into what Infowars is today.
The jump between "all of the institutions being against you" to "there's some ordering behing the proccess through which the world is crushing you" is not as big as you may think. Add to It a modern media that CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES and stop lying to peoples faces, and all of a sudden people will inevitably start believing insane shit. Watching the most powerful people on the fucking planet repeating the same garbage on Davos each year also doesn't help, It reinforces the narrative that there's a bigger motive behind It all.
In conclusion, to fix this whole mess would require the Liberal elites and intelectuals to implement more transparency on how institutions work, and invite the other side back to the table instead of ostracizing them. That of course won't ever happen, because they are narcissists who cannot be questioned, and who will insist that "deprograming" is the solution.

Looking into the JFK stuff actually made me doubt the conspiracy. If you go around most people who believe the conspiracy base their conclusions on outright false information (like the "pristine bullet", it's actually squished from yawing in the body).
Never underestimate a marine with an Italian rifle.
@@ChucksSEADnDEADWith conspiracy theories, its like magic tricks. Dont look too close or you will miss the big picture and cant find the answers. Look at circumstantial evidence, like what was JFK's policies etc, what happened are he died, etc. Ergo, what impact did his death have.
Evidence can be hidden, but things are done for a reason, for an intended effect. So it is through that intended effect that you can find out if something is just a theory, or something more.
That last bit isn't admirable. I don't know why people think that "I won't even pretend to be open to listening to reason" is a cool thing to proclaim about themselves.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Who cares about the yawed bullet lol wtf. The idea is that the intelligence agencies probably killed JFK because his views were totally against theirs. And then coincidentally his opponents magically all gained power after. Then JFKs brother was also killed shortly after. JFK was incredibly popular and loved, the idea that some rogue person solo killed JFK just because he had some personal gripe with him seems totally nonsensical. It's not like Lincoln where the civil war actually changed the lives of many southerners and they'd actually have personal reasons to kill Lincoln, like STRONG personal reasons. Nothing that JFK did would have affected someone to the point of assassination. It was all narrative based, which usually means that his political opponents did it. Wtf does a yawed bullet have to do with any of that lol.
good talk ❤️
This would make a great podcast episode. Is there a podcast channel?
Conspiracy theories come from our basic instincts, and we follow our basic instincts because it is something we would rely on to save our lives in the past. When we were more primitive, and we heard something in the bushes, it was better for us to think of it as a threat instead of thinking it was the wind. This thought process is embedded in our brains, so we still like to go with the threat/suspicious take on things that happen in our lives
You just blindly mistrust these huge institutions that demonstrably lie to the public all the time…
Oh wait 🤔🤣
Until you wait 3 years and 90% of conspiracy theories get confirmed by mainstream sources but they act like it’s not a big deal and sweep it under the rug so liberals never notice how many things they’ve been wrong about
Examples:
-Covid was made in a lab
-Russia gate was bs
- The US intelligence agencies pressure social media to censor true information
- the vaccine had a high rate of adverse effect that were hidden.
-Excess deaths have been well above the normal for several years after Covid and not caused by Covid
-Ukraine had the opportunity to negotiate and end the war but the US and UK pressured them not to. Since then nearly half a million Ukrainians have died and Ukraines position has only weakened. All the while the ms media acted like there was no other option.
- 15k Palestinian deaths of innocent women and children is just Israel “defending itself”
- the legal cases against trump are all based on flimsy bullshit arguments with no legal standing driven by activists who are partisan (e.g the maralago property value fraud case)

Feels like this dude is building a conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories
Thats just your paranoia
He’s building explanations..
@@VA-gu1jq thats what a conspiracy theory is. an explanation
That's what I said. Also, the people above me used that as evidence that their pre-existing theory about you was correct. Agreeing with them proves they're right, but disagreeing also proves they're right.
Almost every single example of anything bad this guy has is a right wing thing, which just reinforces his existing world view. He believes he's ascending beyond the fray but he's as deep in the sh*t as the rest of us mere mortals at the base of the tower.
@@vjexmixv yeah but his explanation isnt a top down conspiracy without evidence designed to push a narrative.
Its from first principals in psychology and philosophy that seeks to describe the behaviour
liked the discussion, good points were made, now we only have to become masters at making people reconsider their entrenched positions, that is mostly about psychology, why people end up with these beliefs and how to get them out of them are quite different questions.
amazing content
Conspiracy theory was a term invented by the CIA after President Kennedy's death. LMAO
God that's so recursive ...
That should tell these ppl everything lmao but they wanna argue be fake deep about nothing.
Just for anyone curious, the term "conspiracy theory" has been used as far back as 1863 in The New York Times. The idea that the CIA invented the term just isn't true lol.
"How old are you?"
"I'm 46"
"Oh Jesus"
what did he mean by this
😂😂😂😂😂
1:26:30 I didn’t know this was common, but at my university more than half of the philosophy department graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison, years apart as well. While I was attending they hired two guys from there that started for the same term

FunFact: The opposite principle of Occam's Razor is known as Hiccum's Dictum. Interesting trivia & a much lesser known one (by name, anyway)~
8 minutes in, and I'm already out. Covid 19 "may" have come from a lab, but the jury is out because we need more evidence?! Where have you been for the past 4 years, MFer?
It seems like every clear, insightful opinion Destiny has was arrived at by pure chance.
Whenever Steven says "There's NO EVIDENCE" It means that there's plent of It, but said evidence is bad for his worldview.
Destiny still believes the Pangolin theory?
wouldnt be surprised if he didnt even know the name Peter Daszak just like he didnt know about zionists until recently
I mean to be fair, he also still believes there aren't people with bad intentions running the countries. No they are just incompetent. In 2024, that's like believing the world is flat.
hes gotta be getting paid by the government at this point
Good stream
This is the best video destiny’s done in a loooooong time

This is proof that Yoko Ono was paid by Courtney Love to murder Tupac Shakur to facilitate September 11th in order to bury the records (hidden in a basement vault) that prove JFK was assassinated by The Pope to preserve the Military Industrial Complex so that the Saucer people can continue their weapon tests because Intergalactic treaties ban spacefaring nations from testing.
I’m 3 minutes in and I can already see the entire video. This is a guy who uses his credentials to invalidate anything he doesn’t like and ignores his own priors.
Didn't really go that way.
Watch the whole thing.
Are you talking about Destiny? In which case I would agree.
Woa woa woa - where’s the Star Ears comment on Sheev?
This conversation was so interesting.
How could anyone take someone who thinks epstein killed himself seriously?
50:02 this next 10 seconds or so is a great take. We like the beauty of simple things
Love this
The vaccine passports and mandates were deemed unconstitutional…that one was pretty upsetting destiny. It was “proven untrue” because I was STOPPED. Wtffff
This was some fascinating shit. Conspiratorial thinking has always interested me, this was an enlightening Deep dive
I wish I got this proposed philosophy 101 Destiny described. All my teacher went over was the different arguments for or against an abrahamic god.
0:46 speaking of Lauren Southern, where is she? Did destiny burn yet another bridge?
They fell out when Lauren asked for Child support for their child.
Just saw a painting of Zeus, that looks like Destiny
Have you ever seen destiny and Zeus in the same room. I don’t think so. They’re the same person. 👀
Don't you mean aphroditis?
Zeus was actually inspired by dubstiny
C. Thi Nguyen did an amazing podcast with Sean Carroll about the dangers of clarity.
Did Destiny react to the recent PBD episode on the State of the Union? Candace Owens was on that show and at the end PBD was saying how much he loves and agrees with Candace. I would like to see his input on the episode.
Finally, I'm sending this to everyone I know. So good.
The chat is so delayed
this guy was awesome! very insightful and interesting
More of this, please.
Dgg chat seems way desyncd
It’s overlayed over kick chat which can be ahead on kick VOD’s. Putting these videos together regularly is not a job I envy tbh (unless Mr editor is secretly raking it in)

Where is this 94 study on political demotivation? I would really like to read it but it’s hard to find
A classic example of aesthetic practice in relation to epistemic practice is in theoretical physics, where the aesthetics of a theory is often seen as a validation or invalidation of the theory.
Destiny running to a professor train his viewers to attack his enemies very state of mind instead of addressing any of the facts is so peak
Candace offered specific and verifiable examples (incorrect LAPD reporting the shooting was outside when pictures show inside) and the only explanation is "you are crazy you believe this stuff because there is something wrong with you"
36:15 "the conclusion is predetermined based on the particular narrative you subscribe to" pot calling the kettle black? even a die hard fan of Destiny cannot in good faith say he gives any of these a fair shot, he does not even understand ANY of them enough to steel man. if the bay of pigs or operation mocking bird or mk ultra were never revealed to the public destiny would be arguing that they are complete bullshit made up CONSPIRACY THEORY
All those MKULTRA docs are government docs, can you really trust them?

Wait, it's still a discussion if COVID came from a lab? What????.
i mean sure, but in destiny's mind its 100% fake instead of 2% fake
Destiny has the problem where he "believes in nothing" aka, where he actually believes all of what he reads from "information sources" because those are "facts" and believes nothing of what he is told.
Lab leak is the occams razor explanation. It’s not a cope at all. Destiny not believing that is bizarre.
The only thing that can be conspiratorial now is “intentional” versus “accidental”.
@@TheGavraelNo, it isn’t. It still requires the most assumptions and has less evidence supporting it over the last few years as dozens of strong papers have come out on its zoonotic origins and reasons behind its spread.
@@TheGavrael It isn't really Occam's razor. For example, the reason why a lab was there in the first place was due to the prevalence of those viruses in the general area. So we have to take that into account. Also we have to consider what lab leak actually means. Does it mean someone leaked it on purpose or not? I am sure some people believe one and some believe the other.
The thing about Destiny is he doesn't move without evidence. And something feeling likely isn't evidence. Because we cannot easily discern what is likely just because it feels likely. So there isn't any evidence that the lab leak theory is true. It just feels true because it feels likely.
I wish more of these theory professors would do this out in the open but I understand the fear and why they don't largely do it and keep things within the institution. However, being able to rigorously test your ideas, especially when these are ideas you are teaching to people, is such a good thing.
I like this content. Talking with informed smart people who are enthusiastic about the subject is so much more calming than the debates with completely delusional people.
This guy is the exact opposite of the super conspiracy theorist. Hes so invested in exposing conspiracy theorists, he acts as if no conspiracies have ever existed.
While I agree people can be wired to think everythings a conspiracy, its far worse if you've wired yourself to handwave dismiss everything.
I wouldve been nice to see some real push back in this conversation.
problem is real conspiracies or fake still involve the powerful vs the powerless. it isnt possible for the average joe to piece together an essay with sources on every single thing every powerful corporation / cabal / government does behind closed doors. admittedly i'm canadian but USA was founded and built on the idea of fighting against just that, of course the constitution and bill of rights have been defecated upon since then, the $$ runs most things now
“The CIA did nothing wrong”

I mean, he said some conspiracy theories can be true. The thing is that the burden of proof is on the theorist and extreme claims should be ignored until proven that they lay on any foundation.
@@AnimeisGarbage Yeah.. Just like how conspiracy theorist can admit some things aren't conspiracies.
The point is, if you're gonna be on opposite spectrums, it's better to be more of a skeptic than the guy that always finds a way to believe whatever he's told.
@@kendarsin I agree, idk if you watch Destiny often, but he’s discussed a lot of conspiracy theories in the past and they do generally have a %10>~ success rate in terms of accurately assessing what’s going on.
I think he’s just going off prior experience, a lot of conspiracies fail, but SOME can have credence. Even then, a lot of the time when they are generally agreed upon they are never confirmed with certainty. The closest thing in recent memory would probably be Epstein, but the thing is: Elite pedophilia rings have been a general idea since the advent of an elite class of people.
At the end of the day it is better to be a skeptic rather than blow stuff off entirely, but Destiny (and I, as well as a lot of other people) have this fool me once bias because of how many of these conspiracies have been proven false. It is what it is, this just means that if a theory is actually true that their theorists would have to come with bombshells loaded.
This is the kind of conversation that justifies liberal arts degrees. People who think they are useless don't understand what a loss it would be to live in a civilization without them

Memphis mentioned, we up 💎
This guy sounds like a great professor to have in a philosophy class, you can tell he is comfortable with students arguing against him
He was prepared. At various points he intentionally asked questions or raised points that were opposite to his actual point, since he (correctly) assumed Destiny would argue against them, thus Destiny basically got reverse-uno'd.
22:45 Destiny ironically describing himself here, and not aware of it.
That said, it now makes sense why he believes that critical thinking or being a philosopher makes someone less likely to theorise about conspiracies, when in reality it makes someone *more* likely. They are called *theories* for a reason. Not 'random thoughts' or ideas.
That's not true at all...
Conspiracy theories is when you START with a narrative and cherry pick evidence (or claim evidence against is evidence for it) to reach a conclusion that preserves this narrative.
Critical thinking is to acknowledge your own biases, consider all relevant evidence, see different possible conclusions, and in THE END reach the most likely conclusion.
Let's say I believe that there are some evil people letting tigers loose in the streets to kill people at night, and then one morning a body is found. Now if I came to the crime scene I could start to look for evidence for this tiger attack, like that the body is covered in dirt (like a big animal pushed the victim in the mud), there's a big container a few hundreds meters away (big enough to fit a tiger), and there is a gaping hole on the side of their neck (almost as if something sharp like a claw was buried in their neck...)
Someone using critical thinking might say that it looks like the victim was stabbed, but they are clearly a fool because that's also what the police's also say, who are clearly involved in the tiger business! And by the way... they are to silence me by lying about how I "contaminated a crime scene". Subscribe to my patreon so I can get the truth about these evil tiger people out there!
