  • Hello from Enthusiastic Steve, in this video something a little different, I thought I would try to listen in to the Pilot of the Red Arrows RAF Display Team whilst they undertook a FULL FLYING DISPLAY.
The RAF Red Arrows are amongst, if not the best Aero Display Team in the World, it is always a privilege to see them fly over or to watch them display.
The current 2024 team were attending the center of focus event for the UK 80th Anniversary of the D Day WW2 landing at Southsea (Portsmouth), which played a major part and was the main departure point for all the brave soldiers, gathered from all over the world, including USA and CANADA who joined the British forces to fight in Europe.
To commemorate the occasion the Red Arrows performed a spectacular display for the Veterans, VIPs and Guests to enjoy. (Including the King of England).
Normally as a member of the public you may be lucky enough to see one of their displays but only a few have heard what goes on in the cockpit whilst the display is on.
G forces push the pilots, precise moves are undertaken, flying at times just feet apart from one another, this takes quick thinking, control, fast commands and many 100s of hrs of training.
Using just a RSP1A (A black box SDR receiver), a computer running SDRUNO software connected to a wide band Discone antenna located outside at 30ft, I was able to tune in to the teams display frequency and listen to the chatter to share with you.
If anyone is thinking that must be secret then worry not. The frequency (Though I will not give it out in this video) is out in the public domain, a simple internet search will give it, the commentary is also at times played over the tannoy to the public at air displays and I should imagine that all AirBand enthusiasts have at some time monitored this frequency.
But for interest and for anyone who has not had the chance to hear the display (which I expect is many of you?) then here it is from from the Pilot (Red Leader) perspective, here you go..........
Thank you for viewing, please share and visit my UA-cam Channel, Just search for Enthusiastic Steve, or, Enthusiast Steve or just Stephen Legg any will find my channel, lots of videos covering all aspects of the radio hobby.
Massive thank you to everyone who engages in comments, those who I try and assist, answering their questions and queries.
Plus my appreciation to those who have subscribed and /or click the like button, it all helps with the UA-cam algorithm and helps to grow my channel.
So if you have not subscribed please consider clicking/pressing that choice (it is free, Subscribe is a poor choice of words, it just means you get first notification when a video is released).

Couldn't understand most of what he was saying - perhaps a text display would have been helpful
