  • Black Artist Stories - Stevie Wonder
Blind since shortly after birth, Stevie Wonder was a child prodigy. He signed with Motown at the age of 11 under the name Little Stevie Wonder. He had a number one hit at the age of 13 with the song “Fingertips Pt. 2” and still holds the record for the youngest solo artist to top the charts. Wonder later won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year three years in a row and is still the only artist to have done so. He is also tied for the most Album on the Year wins. By the end of the 70’s Wonder was one of the first popular artists to switch to digital recordings. Wonder has sold over 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has won 22 Grammy Awards. He was the first Motown artist and second Black musician to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song. He has been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame, and had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
