Two great songs from their "middle" phase when they had started writing more personal songs. Nowhere Man is John talking about being lost in Beatlemania - being lost in being a Beatle - being lost as John Lennon - being lost as we all sometimes feel - 'till somebody else lends you a hand".

The three part harmonies on “Nowhere Man” are incredible! Paul has said in interviews that it was hard in studio. I can only imagine how hard it must have been live when they can barely hear each other!

He's also singing this version a whole tone higher than he did on the 'Help!' album, due to George and John's guitars not being detuned the way Paul was when he originally wrote it

The Beatles live were so in synch with each other because they had been playing clubs with multiple shows each night since like 1960. They had a famous run at the Cavern Club in Liverpool and before that at the Star Club in Hamburg. So many shows! They knew their material and they knew each other.
Nowhere Man was a track on 1965's Rubber Soul album which was the first where they really expanded their songwriting and their sounds/production with Sir George Martin.

Rubber Soul is the album that divides the Beatle's careers as musicians, songwriters, and performers into two distinct entities, IMO. There were definite rumblings of where they were headed before Rubber Soul. For instance, the soundtrack for the film Help! was released only about four months earlier- but I don't think an entire album had shown their new direction so much as Rubber Soul.

Indra club, the dirtiest little dive of a gangster, then Kaiserkeller, not much different from Indra. From Wikipedia, Lennon said: "We had to play for hours and hours on end. Every song lasted twenty minutes and had twenty solos in it. That's what improved the playing. There was nobody to copy from. Then back to Liverpool. Star Club was bigger, posher, and later

There was quite a lot of police present (the guys in the white shirts...), who even shot a special film (this clip shows a part of it), ua-cam.com/video/B1Nostm73g4/v-deo.html, that accompanies the Beatles' stay in Munich from the reception at the airport, the numerous fans in front of the hotel, to the concert. A few days later, after the performance in Hamburg, there were some riots with the arrests of young people, caused, however, by excessive sensitivity on the part of the police.

Touring and stupid photo shoots weren't helping; 1966 was the year they were attacked physically in the Philippine Islands and told their manager they were done with touring. They finished in August 66 in Candlestick Park , S.Francisco.

John did not sing more songs than Paul. I went to three Beatles concerts, and John and Paul sang an equal number of songs alone, two together in harmony as leads, Ringo would sing one, and George would sing one. They only were on stage for about 35 minutes. You sat through about 6 other acts before you got to hear the Beatles. Saw them at the Hollywood Bowl twice and at Dodger Stadium once. Nowhere Man - 1965. It was a new song when they performed it in this film. It was state of the art at the time. And 'Yesterday' won the Ivor Novello songwriting award for 1965. It was a huge hit in America. Re: the sound. They were playing in mostly baseball fields, and they had to - believe it or not - go thru the tannoy systems! The system where they announced the action on the field! It's amazing they could maintain their harmonies under the circumstances.

Not sure they would have done much more anyway, they had the songs they needed for the film and album in the bag. They had already selected the few songs they thought would work best live, a lot of the other numbers on the 'Let it be' album were not considered because it was a windy, wintery rooftop, so the acoustic guitar based 'Two of us' and 'Across the universe' were out , and piano and orchestra numbers 'Let it be' and 'The long and winding road' were not practical either. Mal Evans and other close staff did an admirable job of fending off the young officers for enough time to get what the studio needed, I would imagine everyone involved was glad to get back to the warmth again. Not really as dramatic as Paul would have hoped for, as the young Policemen were very tolerant and polite, but in the 'Get back' film he was clearly pleased anyway when he catches sight of them arriving, it was something like the ending he had hoped for.

My condolences by the way. But yeah man and think about this, no auto-tune, the equipment they were playing through including the PA system, almost any band playing in shitty bars today on a local or Regional level, we'll have much much better equipment than that. Much better. They will actually also have monitors which is a big deal. Laugh. These guys are just so damn good and it's so strange that you chose nowhere man. That is so bizarre. Around 11:00 this morning, I was headed out my front door to go to the grocery store. I have no idea why, but the song nowhere man, and of course in my head I was hearing the studio version, just popped into my head and I couldn't get it out in fact I started singing it out loud and then I actually started jumping up to the harmony parts. I think it's an incredibly brilliant song early on by John lennon. It's beautiful. I really can't remember what album it's off of but it might be either Rubber Soul or Revolver. Either way it's absolutely brilliant and it's lyrics and it's feel and it's emotion and in its musical construction. A lot of wonderfully complex harmonies with whole step dissonance and so forth, but still just being dreamy and beautiful. Like a guy that's just lost drifting off away in his head somewhere. Making all his nowhere plans for nobody.

An interesting performance, but the song is much better as a solo performance on acoustic guitar, which is the way Paul has played this live for decades. Being a bit technical for a moment, Paul usually plays this song in the key of G, but has his guitar strings tuned down a whole tone, it then makes it sound in the key of F. F is the key on the original studio recording, and sheet music for decades transcribed it in F, as most transcribers were keyboard players and that is what they heard. For guitarists though the chord progressions are much simpler, and sound better, played using the chords Paul wrote it in, in the key of G with a detuned guitar. In this concert George Harrison and John Lennon, for obvious practical reasons, were not going to de-tune their guitars just for one number, so Paul is having to sing this version a little higher than the original track, and he does an admirable job here but the lower register of the original has a more sombre and appropriately intimate feel.

How they played and sang in time and in tune when they had no foldback monitors or in-ear monitors to hear themselves or each other with all that screaming. Ringo famously never heard a thing.

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 played well but France 🇫🇷 has better strikers so the better team won. But I know how it is when you are emotionally involved.
Too bad you don’t have Beckham anymore. He was great and good at scoring with Free Kicks! You could have used him well! A class act! England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 can hold their head up this time. They battled well!
My team Wales didn’t even show up! Bale couldn’t do anything and now I’m bummed out about Brazil getting knocked out!
Neymar finally got his goal but it wasn’t enough! Losing on Penalties stinks! I wanted to see Brazil play Argentina but we won’t see it now. I think France will win it all!

the best live version of Yesterday is from the Ed Sullivan Show... you should definitely listen to the recorded version of Nowhere Man

No it's his solo performance at Blackpool in the Blackpool Tower Theatre I think, in 1965 which I think was its first outing.
There's a UA-cam video of it, black and white like most of them at that time.

Nowhere man Was on the album rubber soul and that was a new type of album for The Beatles. Before this album, they always made sure they're Songs was also a little message to the girls like she loves you And I want to hold your hand. But The Beatles got tired of that type of song. So with that album they began the right more songs that They themselves Would want to Here.

Normally Paul would play Yesterday alone with an acoustic guitar.

“Early” is kinda a funny term when you consider they were only actively releasing records for six measly years. I think they did something like 100 songs in their first two years?
But these tracks are from their… middle period? Just barely post Rubber Soul era.

It's sad that whoever did the sound really messed up John's microphone. Also, sound systems have improved by leaps and bounds in the years since.

    Syed -
I love your journey of discovery and your genuine love of music.
And i wanted to share this with you.
If you want a master-key to the harmonies of the best groups of the 60's, 70's, and beyond, here it is:
The Everly Brothers. They have been cited as a main influence by The Beatles, Simon And Garfunkel (they even brought them along on a tour), The Kinks, CSN, The Beach Boys, The Zombies. Nora Jones did an entire cover album (Foreverly) of songs they'd recorded in 1958.
I'd love if you would react to this song from their reunion tour, and give an ear to their harmonies
    Thanks -

The Everlies were A HUGE influence on everyone. Mike McCartney (yes the younger brother) is an amazing storyteller, he is also a singer, he's very good and had a #1uk hit with Lily The Pink. Mike released several albums with his group and solo. On Mike's solo albums, which are actually good, some of the backing musicians were Elton John and Jimi Hendrix.
Today, you know Mike McCartney because he was a photographer, he took all of the photos of pre fame Beatles. Including the photos of JOHN and Paul in the parlor, they had a school notebook on the floor, in Mike's photo you can read the lyrics. It was I Saw Her Standing There. Mike is a world treasure.

Sucks The Beatles catalogue is so strict with this stuff. Nowhere Man has some of The Beatles greatest lyricism, but you can’t really hear that well here.
