  • This is Barry Ryan with ~Eloise ~ November 1968 written by Paul Ryan.
I reworked on the original film clip that was made for this single , the first ever film clip made for a single. #BarryRyan #eloise #60s #60smusichits #60sNumber1 #worldhits #60sclassics
I added some brighter colours, then tried to clear the picture quality and of course added a bit on for the start which I adore which the original film clip did not have.
Unfortunately an error occurred when I created this which resulted some colour looking more faded so I tried to fix this.
This video was created in loving memory of Barry and Paul Ryan and has been uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended.
I added the audio to the film clip of the remastered CD.
I did all this with one software program, did not use any apps and it did take quite some time to do this, the processing of this was pretty slow.
Can I ever tire of this song? The answer is a direct and emphatic NO to this.At least I feel this way.
This is the very original video clip and this was one of the very first video clips ever made, long before MTV or Bohemian Rhapsody ( as I heard one fan once say that that was the first ever video clip made, no , it was this one).
I love it because it is such a classic but wanted to improve it by cleaning the picture quality a touch and also add the stereo audio from the remastered CD. I added footage of another video and added the laughter of Crazy Days at the start as this clip did not have this. I hope you enjoy this.
The original single did not have the crazy laughter and crying at the start as this was the ending of the song called 'Crazy Days' before this song from the album ~Barry Ryan Sings Paul Ryan~, somehow fans loved this version and many think this was how the song started, it was not.
I hope you enjoy these newer edited 4K version.
In creating this video I wanted to honour Barry and Paul Ryan and remember them with such love . I feel blessed having met this sunny talented singer and he and Paul will be remembered with love and affection by fans. RIP
~Eloise~ was written by Barry's twin brother Paul and remains one of those classic hits. Some facts about this song. I do have the very first version of this song which was sung sweetly and softly in one take, I will try and share this some day. "Eloise" is a song first released in 1968 on the MGM label. It was sung by Barry Ryan, and written by his twin brother Paul Ryan. Running for over five minutes, it features strong orchestration, melodramatic vocals, and a brief slow interlude. I have read that one of the reasons that Eloise was not number 1 for a long period was the fact that there were not enough singles out for sale and it was very frustrating for Barry and Paul Ryan. It sold three million copies worldwide and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart as published by Record Retailer, but hit No. 1 in the NME and Melody Maker charts. It topped the chart in 17 countries, including Italy, the Netherlands and Australia. The single was released as "Barry Ryan with the Majority". The Majority were a pop band, who for a period, were the backing band for Ryan and who, after renaming to Majority One, had some success in Europe.] Ryan also released an Italian-language version of the song, "Eloise (Versione Italiana)", in 1968. After not being able to cope with the success of some of his hits as a duo with Barry, Paul decided to take a step away from the limelight and to concentrate on songwriting. "Eloise" was the second song he wrote and was influenced by Richard Harris' arrangement of "MacArthur Park" after listening to a rough mix of it at a party at Harris' house. After listening to it, Paul locked himself away and wrote "Eloise" in three days. The song was then recorded at IBC Studios at the end of a recording session with their mother Marion and they had only two takes to do it due to the length of the song. {I have a copy of the first original recording & have shared this version, it is sung as a ballad and in a much sweeter way}.
The session musicians included Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, both of whom went on to form Led Zeppelin, and Glenn Ross Campbell. Everyone then wanted to go to the mixing desk to listen to the result because it was so unusual and they said it was going to be a big hit. According to Barry, the record influenced Freddie Mercury of Queen. He said in a 2017 interview: "I remember reading Freddie’s memoirs. He was influenced by it. He really, really liked it and also he used it as an argument to release 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because his record company didn’t want to release it but he said “That Barry Ryan had a big five and half minute hit. Why can’t we do it too?”" I will add the lyrics under a comment for you all.

For those interested the scenes of Barry and ~Eloise ~ walking were filmed at 'The London Pavilion' cinema Piccadilly Circus & down Great Windmill Street, Soho. Which reminds me to add the 2021 movie "Last Night In Soho" in which the lead character was called Eloise and of course this song was featured, Barry was excited about this , he wanted to create a photograph of many women called Eloise , but sadly passed away before he could see this movie.

@@sylvieteulet I will be sharing that song you mentioned in German in the new year. You are so right with what you wrote. I saw how sad Barry was when the hits were not happening. I also have got new in regards to Paul's and Barry's 1977 album which was recorded under the alias of HERO , it looks still to go ahead and be published so fingers crossed. I will let you know when this is close to getting available. Wishing you a lovely weekend, from Tasmania with love, Tia 😆😻

@KimSenior Thank you 😊. I was 11 when my father bought home the demo of Eloise. He worked in the music industry, and my love for music 🎶 and a certain dramatic type of music style and THAT voice began. I had not even seen Barry or Paul yet. The following year, I met them, and like every other female teenager, I had my first crush on Barry. He and Paul were so lovely and great, humble guys.
I got to know Barry and sadly had to leave and go to Tasmania a few years later.
I returned a few years later and reconnected with Barry.
I feel blessed that I got to know Barry better at this stage.
Barry stayed in contact with my father until my father passed away.
I will never stop loving their music 🎶 as it still moves me and makes me happy.
Warmest regards and goodnight from Tasmania, Tia 😊

Awesome video to epic love song. Got right up to no.2 in UK top 30 , November 1968 , just held off no.1 spot by a discotheque version of 'the good, the bad,the ugly'.Not sure if this Eloise colour movie was shown on black&white BBC-1 'Top Of The Pops' or did Barry Ryan appear singing in person?.Barry & Eloise are walking past 'The London Pavilion' cinema Piccadilly Circus & down Great Windmill Street, Soho.I have the original MGM 1968 vinyl record. This is a wonderful video to watch & listen to.Thanks.

Hi, thank you. Lovely to hear from you. I do include a lot information underneath the video (in the about section and as a comment) as well as a bit more. I may add the description about where part of this video was filmed as I did not add that. Thank you so much.
It was very sad that it did not make it to number 1 but this was also due to the error that was made by the record company ( not enough trust to think this was going to be a huge hit) as they had not printed enough singles and sadly singles were sold out before it could make it to number 1 in the charts. Had there been enough supply to meet demand this song would have reached number 1 in the UK charts without a doubt and remained there for a few weeks for sure.
At least it hit No. 1 in the NME and Melody Maker charts. To me this song remains a masterpiece and I truly believe that Paul's songwriting and Barry's vocal style opened up the doors for many future bands like Queen and Freddie Mercury was obviously influenced by their music and this song in particular. There is a book about this era of music ,which actually mentions Freddie being influenced by Barry Ryan.
I have the audio of Barry singing 'Eloise' Live ( most definitely live vocals !) on Top Of The Pops, sadly I do not have any video footage not sure if anyone out there has this but I will try and make a video ( thanks to 2 kind collectors of the Ryan music who were so generous and sent me so many of their collectors items and audio like the one from the live Top Of The Pops and re mastered versions) even if I cannot get the actual footage ( I will try and make it with other footage and try and add it this to it) it will be a little while as I have about 30 or so videos on my to do list right now and 15 to finish editing and of course plan to make a lot more.
      Warmest regards from warm Tasmania,
      Tia
