Funny how people don't keep the same energy when immigrants want to be respected as Americans unless they're winning gold medal
They aren't immigrants...

Yeah it's a bit of a betrayal.
@@m.687 , are you that dumb?
@@Agtsmirnoff Exactly...They're American...China doesn't even recognize dual citizenship...
Something Americans do not understand.
America is a country of immigrants, ask any immigrants if they love their mother country, i can assure you the majority will say yes. Most ppl only go to America for the money but their heart stay with their motherland.
Let it be Mexicans, Philippines, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian ANY COUNTRY.
Eileen did it for the money, she knew she would get way more endorsement $$$ from Chinese companies and even the government. Why the other woman switched when she isn't even fluent in Mandarin boggles my mind.
Better opportunities? She is unlikely to get an Olympics spot on the US skate team. This happens quiet frequently for athletes.
So what if she isn't fluent🙄
There is nothing wrong with that, the is gifted and trained hard for it...so she have to right to chose...that is a great thing about America...but action also have consequences...
@@brittbrat9328 it's a big deal there apparently.
Bingo.
Godamn it, Chinese are now making counterfeit Olympic athletes!
Americans need to stop picking and choosing when they want Asian Americans. How many times have we heard “go back to your country” or “go back to China” and now Olympic medalists are
Chinese IQ=106
AMERICAN iq=92
Lol, if you take out certain demographics the numbers in everything skyrocket. If you added in you 600 million impoverished farmers it would be a more balanced statement.
How’s Aaron Blunck doing? Wish him well.
So the point of this story is that Chinese should adore mediocre athletes just as much as the gold medalists? I don't think that happens in the US - who do they put on Wheeties boxes?
please excuse my HYPOCRITICAL Americans :D
Chinese identity is based on ethnicity. Technically it's the father who has to be Chinese if you're a male; but for a female mixed-race, it doesn't really matter. There is no such thing as American identity, as anyone can become "American," just as white people killed off the native Americans and started to believe that whites are the real Americans--which is why black Americans are still be slaughtered after hundred of years in America.
I am pretty sure most comments in china are quite positive to her. People in China have bigger heart than you think.
I'm not sure that your assurance is worth to insure
Let's see how big their hearts are when Eileen reverts back to TeamUSA for the next Olympics.
This is a clear indication of times changing. A new empire is replacing the old
USA has been attracting talents to migrate to America. China becomes attractive to talents these days.
She just love Chinese big market, people actually don't realize this. Money is her aim. A gold medal can turn into huge payback in China than America. Her team calculated this already...
Yeah but renouncing citizen ship n all that travel and movement offsets the cashback. I don't think it's a good idea to represent china if ur aim is to make money. Cus u gotta do it many yrs before meaning if she didn't win gold she would be broke. So it's more likely just her rather being chinese represented. Nothing wrong with anyone deciding to represent
My country has athletes who are immigrants. And there are athletes born here but represent countries they immigrated to. We don't have a problem with either group and we still view those who left as part of us.

A lot of Chinese people who were born and raised in China but set up companies in America as well, take a look at Yahoo founder, UA-cam founder, Zoom founder,etc... tons of IT engineers. Same to Indians, so why the Americans propaganda media won't whinning about why these foreign talents set up companies in America and contribute economy for America? The Americans just want everything and everybody theris, but they never look at themselves. Tesla Elon Mask from Africa, Steve Jobs from Syria,etc.. the Americans benefiting the most from talents immigration but now they are whinning talents not represent them. What a double standard.
Feel sorry for Zhu Yi. The Chinese should be grateful she chose to represent them.
Taiwanese 1450 were using internet violence against Zhuyi . Dumb asses been using words that's common in Taiwan but not common in mainland .
She is weak and she took the opportunities of other athletes that may have a chance to compete, instead of her, she can’t even speak fluent Chinese, cry like a baby. We simply questioning is she really qualified to go on a competition like this. Or did she steeled other’s opportunity.
why? she sucked and took another girls spot that deserved it more
@@JQ-po7hx She was 15 when she changed her citizenship and she doesn't make the decisions around who gets to represent China in the Olympics. If you genuinely believe there were better candidates, you should perhaps shift your feelings towards the system that didn't choose the best representative.

Can't people see this: Eileen Gu is a result of the West and East working together. She's very close to her Chinese mum and Grandma who instilled in her values that belong to the East. At the same time she got educated in the US and brought up in American culture. The fact that she's become such a positive, beautiful human being tells us that when the two cultures blend in, something magical can happen. Stop hating and start working together; it'll only bring good to the world.

A Chinese person told me no matter where they are in the world. They are loyal to their people, and their mother land. Chinese people born in America are still Chinese/American. Chinese first.
That person does not speak for all Chinese. I know plenty of ethnic Chinese people in America who feel much more American than Chinese.

Nothing wrong to have an opportunity to make millions and retire as a professional athlete at age 30. It's like telling a college grad to not take a job at Google but work as a waiter.
if shd could predict she would make millions at 15, we should've all bought lots of tesla stock 10 years ago.
A medal should go to the country that trains them
Do you realize how many athletes born and trained outside of the US represent the US and gain medals? Country swapping happens all the time. It’s not new…
There are at least 3 White American men on China's national men's hockey team and they're solely focused on attacking Eileen Gu. You tell me why.
because they are not white men.
Because she wins, bigly. They didn't.
She works for money. Not for Chinese also.
The problem with Eileen is that she's trying to have her cake and eat it too. If she truly believes her heart is with helping China succeed, switch to being a Chinese citizen and move there. I'm sure the financial rewards will be great as China can surely use her for propaganda. Her excuses and evasiveness just point to the fact that she wants to have it both ways, and that's just being greedy. If she was honest and admitted it then she can claim she just did what's best for her and nobody has a right to criticize how she wants to lead her life. Right now she's just being dishonest and comes across as an entitled silly greedy person
cuz the US allows dual citizenship so why should she give it up?? for now China seems to be ok with it. whoi knows they might relax on their rules
You got a problem, she was born half Chinese and half American, she has no choice that's something she can not change. Instead of picking one of the two, she chose to embrace both cultures and that made her sucess today.
you sound jealous
Grown up baby. No one was birth as gold medalist. Exactly she’s gonna get rich from China and live in the US and probably marry an American. She’s milking the moment and Chinese are gonna trash her when she gets a US citizenship again.
So you get citizenship according to race?
I might sound cunning and ruthless but she deserve for what she did. She is born and raised in US and trained in US but than she chose to go back to China based on her ethnicity. Isn't it betrayal to the country where she is born and brought up, trained. Even as an Indian born Australian immigrant and if I possess even 1% of talent she has, I would have never done that as it's betrayal to country you are trained and raised. Anyways she is young and God bless her
There are talents around the world that were born and trained elsewhere but came to the US for better opportunities. US often pride itself on its ability in doing just that. Why would it be a problem when the situation is reversed?
@@zsarimaxim692 She isn't an immigrant, she is born there. Also, this is different case altogather. She is representing country in Olympics.
