OMG! I'm the Canadian who recommended this last week for Grandad Joe! I'm so glad he loved it and said "busting" lol! It's a traditional meal over here! Love from Canada 🇨🇦
@traciewalker8506 I'm also canadian that's how I knew bout the cheese curds. I live in England now though sadly no poutine around here apparently you can buy it in London at a canadian bar though.
Poutine is Québécois though. We INSIST on making this distinction. 😁😉 And as a Québécois, I am HONOURED that Grandad Joe had a taste of it and loved it! 💖 We make it with fresh cheese curds, but perhaps they are hard to find in the UK, so cheddar cubes would be a good alternative. 😊
I love this man. He reminds me so much of my dad - from his smile to sitting in that recliner. When I'd take my dad ribs, stew or steak, he'd immediately sit up and get a napkin ready. Always complimenting how tender I made everything. While watching these makes me miss my dad (gone 2 years now), it still makes me smile. Absolutely precious!
"I did say ketchup...there's a bit of a clue there".... he's priceless. I love his quick wit and hilarious banter with Bab's. They make a great team. I love watching Grandad and Bab's. It brightens my day right up. I just adore them both. Lots of Love from Maryland in the USA.
✨️YAY!!!!✨️ You tried Grandad with Poutine!!!! Awesome! I'm so glad I suggested it! I don't know how many other Canadian viewers suggested it... 😆 But I hope it was me who inspired you! 😆 Love you guys soooo much! I'm glad you liked it, Grandad! Love you from across the pond in CB NS 🇨🇦 🍁
Poutine is amazing! And worth getting in shit from the cardiologist over. Some places in the US call them disco fries. Another great regional meal is a jiggs dinner. It’s from Newfoundland. It’s salted meat(corned beef), cabbage, turnips, dressing, and potatoes. Blueberry duff is a great dessert to go with it. Or beaver tails, which is an all over Canada treat for dessert and often at the fairs. Grandad would love those too probably 😃
Just use mozzarella , shred it up yourself, put the gravy on the chips then the shredded cheese, put it in the oven until the cheese has melted, it's wonderful ! Yummy !
@@HellBentMonk2024 I have been eating this from restaurants for over 30 years as well as me making this at home. This is poutine ! Look it up on google,if you don't believe me !
If he loves the poutine with mozzarella, he'd love it in it's proper form with cheese curds. Tescos should have em :) back home you have so many more cheese varieties than we do here. Most Canadians don't even realize that not all stilton is blue 😂 And back home there's 5-10 fruit varieties depending on the season lol. I bet you've got access to curds somewhere. It's basically super young mozza that's not formed into shapes
Really? I’ve lived in the land of the cheese (Holland) and Canada, which is also a big dairy producer. Personally I feel like we have TONS of option. Go to China, you’ll have like 5 cheese to pick from if you’re lucky 😅
I live your channel. It's so much fun to watch Granddad's reactions, and see what you come up with while learning to make all these international dishes....plus, I get to learn new things to make for myself too! Thanks, Bab and Granddad! I so enjoy your channel. ✌🏼❤️✨🌻 to you both, from Greenville, Illinois, USA. (Also-- you should look into making a regional favorite from my area-- really, St. Louis, MO., about 45 miles west of me, but still regional!-- it's called Gooey Butter Cake. It's absolutely delicious, it's terribly moist and awfully rich and gooey, and I think fairly easy to make. Try it sometime! Would love to hear your thoughts on it!)
I love it! I've made it for me and my mom but, I love the mushroom gravy. I had to buy squeaky cheese from Wisconsin because we are American in Tennessee. God bless you all, everyone, and everything! ❣️
Daddy loves his food! Babs you are amazing. And your dad is. Just such a well behaved guy always has his napkin Ready to talk under his chin so quickly. It's so sweet and cute and fun to watch. Keep on cooking babs
I’m from Quebec Canada! It look very good and it is a thing here some like it with the ketchup others say it’s sacrilegious 😂, but usually should be served with cheese curds, I dont know if you guys have that… but so happy to see he loved it! 🥰
I'm also from Quebec, but I never knew people use ketchup with their poutine. That sounds nasty. These are probably the same people who put ketchup on their Kraft Dinner.
Just made this last night actually. If you can get your hands on it, to go even more authentic, instead of mozzarella, try to get cheddar cheese curds and put them cold on the hot chips. and then pour the hot gravy on top it should be enough to soften but not melt them. Mozzarella is a terrific substitute, though, and I'm glad he liked it!
When I first heard about this I immediately asked my Canadian friend if he had ever eaten Poutine. He made a face and said "No, it looks like someone threw up on your fries". That seemed a bit harsh and having tried it myself......YUM!! I had mine with fries, cheese curds and gravy. Good stuff.
I'm so glad you're grand dad liked the poutine. It's my favorite homemade meal of choice. My favorite is using mozzarella cheese not the cheese curds. Personally, I find the cheese curds don't melt well or taste as good as the mozzarella. POUTINE IS AWESOME ! Yummy !!
If he liked that, have you tried chilli cheese fries? The secret is to water the chilli down about a quarter of the can so you can pour it boiling without burning it. Personally, I like Velveeta (generic is fine), but cheddar or Monterey Jack probably works fine too. I enjoy it with grape juice, and either cinnamon rolls or something chocolate for dessert. My husband doesn't like beans in his, but I add black beans; Know someone else that adds red beans. Fire roasted diced tomatoes are good in there too if you want a vegetable. Enjoy, you're welcome!
Actually a Poutine is made with a special Poutine Gravy and Cheese Curds, at least that's how we do it in Quebec. I have ordered a Poutine with chicken often.
There's a restaurant near the Canadian border in New York that adds smoked, pulled pork, and sauteed onions, peppers, and mushrooms to their poutine. Soooo good!

It looks really nasty, granted, but it’s delicious!! 😋 It depends where you get it from though: as a Québécois, I’ve tasted poutine at so many different restaurants, and some were not good at all.
Nothing weird about chips, cheese and gravy, though it has to be thick beef gravy and a mild young cheese, mature has too much flavour, the cheese is for texture
Actually it is a Québécois [French] dish, from Quebec Canada. It's quite good while hot, its elevated comfort food for the cold weather. Packs a ton of calories and carbs. It is pronounced poo-tin [poutine is a French word] in English, the ''i'' is pronounced short as in ''tin''. It's traditionally made with fresh ''squeaky'' cheddar cheese curds, fresh cut fries and homemade gravy. Its even sold at some fast food burger chains here in Canada. 🍁
Cheese curds, squeaky fresh are the must have for poutine and a rich beef gravy.
You are 100% right, real poutine is made with curds not mozzarella.
💯
Rotisserie chicken sauce was the o.g. from what I recall.
@@BSWVIpeople mess up the sauce all the time. It’s not rotisserie chicken sauce
Actually it was traditionally veal gravy but no one has that anymore. I wouldn’t say rich beefy flavour is right either
