You must be very careful to check before turning the pot that it hasn't got a spot of weak glue (like a nail polish) sometimes red in colour which is used to hold the the pot you turn in place. If you don't remove that glue/nail polish whatever it is the the whole pot will turn ripping itself off the circuit board damaging it completely. A dab of isopropyl alcohol on the pot for 10 seconds before you turn it will suffice.

70 year old woman here. Our 30 year old 3 disk CD player was not reading in any of the positions. I bought a cleaner disk that would not even read. I was thinking of buying a new one. I decided a drastic fix wouldn't hurt anything. I doused an unwanted CD in alcohol and put it in and tried to play it. It didn't work. I then poured about a teaspoon of alcohol on the middle of where CD #2 sits. I closed it and pressed the play button. It played funny for a few seconds and then it worked just fine. Fixed a Panasonic RX-DS750 boom box that was built in 1996. Laser adjustment can be accessed without taking unit apart. Insert CD, select something around track 6-10. Stop it and remove CD. Head will be aligned where you can get a small screwdriver in the gap on the left side of head. Mine just took about a 10 degree counter-clockwise adjustment of the screw. Thanks for the video!

Just don't turn it all the way up or the current will shorten it's lifespan very quickly. GOOD FIX!

On two of our cars (older, 2001 and 2003), the disc is taken inside, then makes 3-4 clicks and then comes out. Occasionally it starts playing, like catching smth inside of the radio CD player, but in most cases, the disc just slips and comes out. What that can be and how to repair this problem? Thank you for the great film.
the mechanism's plastic bits sometimes break .. some springs sometimes ping off you'll need to open the radio and get to the cd-player module inside also - it has a rubber roller which catches dust and loses its grip - some window cleaner on a rag takes care of that with spectacular results
@@Darieee Thank you for the replay. I tried to clean today w/ a disc made fm/thin cardboard 2001 Saturn SL2: moist it a bit w/91% Isopropyl Alcohol and inserted in CD player opening, then removed it slightly wiggling around. More of that I tried to push those parts inside w/CD and all the doors started to lock in and out like crazy. Eventually I closed all the doors, but CD player is broken completely. All that has very good outcome though, since that car started to have a problem recently w/doors, they would got open, all of them from time to time, and we couldn't figure out what causes it. what's a TOC error - and how did you fix it 🔥, sounds interesting as long as there is some adjustment somewhere on the assembly / main board, it should be doable maybe if they got their tolerances tight enough you'll have to swap an SMD resistor just remember to only SUUPER slightly tweak the value do let us know if you had any luck
@@Darieee Edit: I was able to fix the "NO DISC" error. I guess I had to turn the trimmer potenciometer a lot. 😃 I'll make a video on the "TOC ERRORa" issue in the future.

I have also cleaned the laser reader and nothing changed. They told me to replace the laser, but its really hard to find it. So is there any solution that can be found or my car is just a maniac of Mozart and refuses to play other music :)
Would this work for a portable Sony Discman? It stopped reading discs but if I put hot air inside the disc door (5 seconds with a hairdryer) it works every time. Diode flaking out? Hate to throw this super-rare D-828K away.
Definitely going to try this on my Denon DN-S5000 CD Turntable, as it just does Not want to read CDs and I've tried cleaning the CD and then cleaning the player itself and I had always wondered why it "Looked" like it was struggling via the screen showing all pertinent information was bright, but then a little less bright and then even less bright...... and then trying again..... really Bright, then less and less. Finally, saying "Disk Error"...... I will let you know how it goes and I will only turn it in small amounts as to Not burn something out or beyond repairable. Nice 1. Yeah good point - that part of your problem is most likely cause by other shit -- maybe try cleaning the contacts inside the port? Check if the plastic piece is not broken in any way and that the pins are not bent out of alignment ?
the laser will be under more stress, which is why you have to increase it as little as possible given I don't listen to CDs at all, I can't say I've ever stress tested this approach
I have a hi end Jay’s Audio CDT3 mk2 transport. It plays most discs perfectly, but it has said No Disc for 2 discs. These were both Now albums with lots of tracks. Could the disc itself pose a problem for a transport? I can play the problem discs on another transport. The transport is mint btw and cost me £3000. It’s only 2 discs it has so far exclusively rejected.
hmmm ... who knows they for sure must've used 700MB discs and not 650 on the problem discs do try and read them on a computer and see what the disc parameters are also - I'd assume said transport can handle random burnt CDs, right ??
I haven’t tried CD-R s yet. CD length seems the most obvious reason, but it’s only a guess. Most searches online suggest the laser is on its last legs but this doesn’t seem likely as the problem is too CD specific.
Just tried a CD-R and that played ok. Then tried a few later NOW albums and many disc can’t be read. I think it may be due to them being long, even though some it reads are 78 mins long. The transport uses the best Philips mechanism CD Pro LF. I’ve never burnt a CD myself.
How did you discover that you have to turn the pot counter-clockwise to increase the power instead of the other way? I'm sure I've seen other videos where they turn it clockwise...but I could be wrong.
yeah - if a slight nudge one way doesn't do it go back, slight nudge the other way around ... then increase the amplitude and try both ways again if it doesn't work now ... and it doesn't work after a try like this ... it's hard to say who did it 🤘

Good post. Have done this as short term fix, might get a few months out of them if you're lucky, never had any long term success in years by doing this because the diodes are breaking down, it speeds up their demise by increasing the current. CD lasers are all pre-set when new and they should never be adjusted from new if they do not work. I have had defective ones which iv'e had to send back. Buying and fitting a new one from a decent supplier is much better depending on your on budget, they vary from £10 to £500 or more.
hmmm .. well, to be honest I never had the chance to test them out long term .. have you had them die out 'again' ? what kind of run-time did you get ?
@@Darieee Got a few months, but not years. In the end they fail to read the TOC because they can't focus, you can hear the laser knocking the disk sometimes. I think other people might be lucky and get more time out of them.

P.S. For burning I use an external Plextor BD-R which is capable of 4X, but 10x works just fine.
I have a NAD M55 to fix, replaced whole optical system (SONY ES) still NO DISC ... any clue?
how do you know whether to turn the potentiometer clockwise or counterclockwise?
Any thoughts on Panasonic home console recordable laser pickup assembly (e.g. RAF 3331A-C from a DMR-EH75V)? These things are not having much lifespan for me (hardly even used).
Multumesc
Thank you for the explanation, although a bit technical for a novice such as myself but this tutorial is a great help.
I have a alpine CDA-9847 that won't play the CD saying error so I took off the top cover and noticed a spring fell out and not sure where it goes thinking this might have something to do with it also.Do you know anything about this?
Hello, two questions, 1: how much lifespan after this procedure? 2 some laser is counterwise or the opposite?
If it is the opposite it won't do any damage, just turn it the other way
My wee Roadstar music centre had a dodgy CD player, it took 4 attempts to read a CD. Now the wee bugger reads like a university student!
nice 🤘
I have one of those ILive ipod/cd components that i got in 2015 still fairly new and it doesn't play certain cds. Just spins .what can i do
Stereo not working after removing CD player ...is there any way to bypass
Worked like a dream on a Marantz CR-612. Thanks!
nice 🔥
Hi I have a FORD BA 2003 UTE WITH A 6 STACKER CD THAT WON'T READ CD'S & EVENTUALLY EJECTS THEM EVEN AFTER USING A CLEANING DISC MULTIPLE TIMES. SO IS THIS THE NEXT STEP FOR ME I WAS HOPING NOT TO HAVE TO REMOVE THE PLAYER FROM THE CAR I AM GUESSING THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE BY REMOVING THE MODULE, IF THIS IS REQUIRED IS IT DIFFICULT TO DO ON THIS MODEL? THANKS APPRECIATE YOUR HELP
Going counter clockwise seems to weaken the power as it barely attempts to read the cd in my case. It seems i cant go anymore clockwise... any other suggestions???
On two of our cars (older, 2001 and 2003), the disc is taken inside, then makes 3-4 clicks and then comes out. Occasionally it starts playing, like catching smth inside of the radio CD player, but in most cases, the disc just slips and comes out. What that can be and how to repair this problem? Thank you for the great film.
the mechanism's plastic bits sometimes break .. some springs sometimes ping off
you'll need to open the radio and get to the cd-player module inside
also - it has a rubber roller which catches dust and loses its grip - some window cleaner on a rag takes care of that with spectacular results
@@Darieee Thank you for the replay. I tried to clean today w/ a disc made fm/thin cardboard 2001 Saturn SL2: moist it a bit w/91% Isopropyl Alcohol and inserted in CD player opening, then removed it slightly wiggling around. I don't remember if I pressed the Eject button, probably not. The cardboard was removed, but the slot got stuck in the way that I can't install CD anymore. Now I know, that the malfunctioning radio unit causes it, bcs the disk was sitting inside. I'm planning to order new radios for both cars. Thank you again.
let me know if I can interest you in some with Bluetooth ✌️

After the adjustment it started playing, if you stop the cd and insert another one it does not play anymore.
My Venturer dvd/Cd player doesnt have any picture!only sound on both discs, any ideas for a fix to try, thanks.
Hmm, not really, if it can read the discs just fine then it's surely not the laser module at fault
Counterclockwise? Are all potentiometer adjusted, for this purpose, in that direction?
who knows .. this is why it's advisable to adjust it only microscopically and check results ✌️
Hi,
Does trick apply also to MiniDisc players too ? 🤔
I have a Sharp MiniDisc MD-T20 unit which gives me a "NO DISC" error everytime I put in a MiniDisc. 😞😭
I was able to fix the TOC ERRORa fairly easily but now this is happening.
Thanks ! 🙄🖒
Best Regards,
what's a TOC error - and how did you fix it 🔥, sounds interesting
as long as there is some adjustment somewhere on the assembly / main board, it should be doable
maybe if they got their tolerances tight enough you'll have to swap an SMD resistor
just remember to only SUUPER slightly tweak the value
do let us know if you had any luck
@@Darieee Edit: I was able to fix the "NO DISC" error. I guess I had to turn the trimmer potenciometer a lot. 😃
I'll make a video on the "TOC ERRORa" issue in the future.
Hey, Thanks for the video. I've got 2005 Nissan Pathfinder with 6 CD Compact Disc Changer. I've tried almost every single CD which I had (including original or manually burned) and it only plays 1 particular CD which is Classical Music Collection. I have also cleaned the laser reader and nothing changed. They told me to replace the laser, but its really hard to find it. So is there any solution that can be found or my car is just a maniac of Mozart and refuses to play other music :)
Mmmmm, so original releases also don't play?
It might be an old laser module capable of only playing 650MB discs
Or did this laser power boost fix it ??
@@Darieee It says MP3/CD PLAYER, but unfortunately it doesn't read anything except the above mentioned. :(
Could this be a similar case for CDJs?
Thanks for sharing👍🏾
Would this work for a portable Sony Discman? It stopped reading discs but if I put hot air inside the disc door (5 seconds with a hairdryer) it works every time. Diode flaking out? Hate to throw this super-rare D-828K away.
could definitely give it a try 🤘
Definitely going to try this on my Denon DN-S5000 CD Turntable, as it just does Not want to read CDs and I've tried cleaning the CD and then cleaning the player itself and I had always wondered why it "Looked" like it was struggling via the screen showing all pertinent information was bright, but then a little less bright and then even less bright...... and then trying again..... really Bright, then less and less. Finally, saying "Disk Error"...... I will let you know how it goes and I will only turn it in small amounts as to Not burn something out or beyond repairable. Nice 1. Appreciate the video, as there are not to many on this type of problem for CD Turntables. Beauty. ty. L8er vader.
@@Darieee ...... Problem!!! I can't seem to find "ANY" bolt, nut, screw to turn and dial up the laser power output. No reference point, as this CD drive is "VERY" different from other drives...... I think,,, I believe. lol. I am trying to look it up now. Either way, I Will let you know the outcome... and again, thank you for your video and input. Always nice to have more Input and Info when working on a project where my knowledge is sub-par. L8.
This can be caused by the cd platter dropping on the motor due to age
Sir can I do this in dvd player
Great what about on a turntable with cd player.
Do al lens come with this variable voltaje control? I could not find it in my Panasonic radio casette
maybe it's somewhere else ..??
My player doesn't spin when a disc is inserted.
i got a sumas 310t cd/dvd player and it want read any cd or dvd and the usb port will not work, anyway to fix thiese issues?
That's a very weird question to put under an entire video dedicated to answering exactly said question
@@Darieee so cleaning the eye will allow the usb port to work?
Yeah good point - that part of your problem is most likely cause by other shit -- maybe try cleaning the contacts inside the port? Check if the plastic piece is not broken in any way and that the pins are not bent out of alignment ?
@@Darieee ty ill try
Just tried works perfect, thank you.
my pleasure, have fun 🤘
hi, sir!! video of fixing wall mounted cd player that is not working and has unnecessary noise please thank you
Perfect, but is this a temporary fix? Does this shortens the lens lifespan?
the laser will be under more stress, which is why you have to increase it as little as possible
given I don't listen to CDs at all, I can't say I've ever stress tested this approach
learned something new today.. awesome. I'm getting "Initializing" and "CD error" on my Ford cd-6 car stereo.. looking for a resolve. thanks your video
Yeah, first clean then boost in very small steps
You should be on your way :D
does this work on all cd readers for example in my sony mxd-d3. It realy strugles to read CDR and CDRW
it might be that some players struggle with 700MB discs
if you're sure that's not it, you could try boosting it
I have a hi end Jay’s Audio CDT3 mk2 transport. It plays most discs perfectly, but it has said No Disc for 2 discs. These were both Now albums with lots of tracks. Could the disc itself pose a problem for a transport? I can play the problem discs on another transport. The transport is mint btw and cost me £3000. It’s only 2 discs it has so far exclusively rejected.
hmmm ... who knows
they for sure must've used 700MB discs and not 650 on the problem discs
do try and read them on a computer and see what the disc parameters are
also - I'd assume said transport can handle random burnt CDs, right ??
I haven’t tried CD-R s yet. CD length seems the most obvious reason, but it’s only a guess. Most searches online suggest the laser is on its last legs but this doesn’t seem likely as the problem is too CD specific.
do try burning some random CD-Rs - would yield some data on the issue
and - yea - check the disc metadata
Just tried a CD-R and that played ok. Then tried a few later NOW albums and many disc can’t be read. I think it may be due to them being long, even though some it reads are 78 mins long.
The transport uses the best Philips mechanism CD Pro LF.
I’ve never burnt a CD myself.
yea .. they might be burning stuff out of spec just to fit more in ..
I wonder if this technique will work on a ps4
How did you discover that you have to turn the pot counter-clockwise to increase the power instead of the other way? I'm sure I've seen other videos where they turn it clockwise...but I could be wrong.
ah ye ... just nudge it ever so slightly one way
if that works it MUST mean you've increased the power 🔥
@@Darieee Just don't wanna risk damaging the thing by mistake, but thanks anway.
yeah - if a slight nudge one way doesn't do it
go back, slight nudge the other way around ... then increase the amplitude and try both ways again
if it doesn't work now ... and it doesn't work after a try like this ... it's hard to say who did it 🤘
@@Darieee I appreciate yoiur answer and I shall try that - thank you.
Hello brother, pls I have tried my possible best to clean my s320 benz lenz but it kept playing a I second and stoping.and I dont see how to adjust the lenz.
mmm ... it could simply be another problem
or.. did you try boosting the lazer power ?
@@Darieee thanks for the respond, the problem is that Benz s320 radio in very complicated to reach where the boosting adjustments.if I could adjust it I believed it will work but only if I see a pro to open it and do that on the video, then I will be able to penetrate alike.
I screwed it to fast and broke can you pls help me out
wow, I just try to fix my OEM cd player from China. Just found your video, and it works! Thank you!
maybe a bit contactcleaner had probely already don the job to, but maybe the led degrease small in power strength by time, but thanks, dariee be good to know were too look for 👍
I tried ur method it was working and now it is giving trouble again “disk not playable.” Pl suggest any solution
uuu yeah ... your laser might've died
try somehow swapping it out for another one 😳
Hello how the console pops out ?
Good fix Works the same on a laptop cd drive. Just did this with a q tip and circuit cleaning spray with alcohol and it fixed the drive
awesome 🤘🤘
My dvd- 106 is not reading cd plis help

Also The CD Player: WHY TF CANT I LOCK ON THIS GODDAMN DISC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Is it possible if we change cd drive into usb port? Thanks
a lot harder
I have a 1998 Mercedes sl500 and it reads NO CD.
Lol I've gotten do frustrated with mine that i just turned the pot all the way up. Yet, it won't read any discs, which is weird considering the fact I can see the laser turning on. Whatever...
Could be some other fault in that case ... did you first turn it just a tiny bit though xD ? Because going all in from the start might damage some shit in there
Same in my case. Adjusted but not detecting cd anymore. What can i check further? Can u help me.
Awsome men!! I haven't tried yet on my stereo, but this might me what I need to fix it
Why not putting a Mp3 CD-reader (lens) in your car stereo. ;)
,....... what laser is this!? I need to know the model! o.O
Interesting. I have a 10 stacker Eurovox on my GM Holden that sometimes will not play a commercial cd. Made in 2000. Maybe this is why.
might very well be .. either dust or needs 650MB discs
Many thanks fixed myn last night but it still doesn't like CD/R 700mb discs. Guy on another vid says 650mb will be OK.
I'm trying to fix a magazine style 6 cd changer.
let us know if this worked
Thank youuuu!!! Fixed CD player and DVD player
Hey, did this and now my player wont read right, the audio quality is really really bad and besides that i still cant read newer cds. Any tips? Thanks
You overdid it? Perhaps your laser is dead, or maybe it simply was at its peak before
Sounds rough in any case
This is well explained but I’m so lazy idc I’ll find another way LMAOO
the cd player says 'god damned son of a b£$£%£ you s%£$£ cd, get the F3$£ out of me!" (kinda like a good saturday night eh?).
i'm being satirical btw. the guy says the cd player says fk it. lol
Got it! Very interesting insight - thanks for sharing 🤘
Very interesting video! Thanks a lot.
THANK YOU SIR .
Awesome, Thank You so Much !!! Works Great now!!!!
Thank you soooooooo much! Helped me fix my xbox series x!
