@@RiverFox_YT My mom's nephew did the same to her and if she didn't stop me i would probably harm him badly. But instead we helped her and let this situation become an enriching life experience.
This is elder abuse, and it makes me sick.
I've been in several situations landlords abused my trust in them.
Even i was very dissapointed and angry at them i always kept my decency and paid every penny i owned them while they didn't deserve it and left the property extreemly clean behind me. No way a landlord ever can say i was a bad tenant.
It learned me to be more careful renting a place and trust verbal agreements.
Every promise written down and signed. When they are serious they don't have a problem with that do they?

Never ever lend or sign on to help family or friends. I made the huge mistake years ago and lent someone $1500 . A lot of money in the late 80’s. She never paid me back even after I won in court. I gave up and hope karma caught up with her. My gut said no no no don’t lend the money. I didn’t listen and paid the price. If your gut is telling you to run do it!!!
U have to go to debt collector office they will do it but they charge 🤑

@@jayo3074 this is very true but also people need to think "can I afford this" my personal experience is I had to move into a van as I couldn't afford to eat and pay rent.
Your right it's a difficult decision. I'm of the opinion that if you have a kid and you had to choose between paying the landlord or feeding your kid you'll do the latter. I'm not saying it's right but I'm saying I would understand. Of course the landlord would be upset but everyone in life will do what's in their best interest at the end of the day.

I had a guarantor for my 1st rental property, never missed a payment and was never late paying, wouldn't put them in the situation of having to pay it for me, disgraceful that a son does it to his dad
My hearth broke when the old good hearted father cried out of dissapointment of his sons behaviour, despair and fear whats going to happen to him if he can't pay the dept of his son who clearly doesn't give a shit about him.
I felt so sorry for the old man and cried with him on the other side of the pond...😢
I really hope family/friends/neighbors will help him out a bit by bringing regulary some groceries or invite him for dinner etc.🍀

Estate agents should not be allowing pensioners living solely on the state pension to be guarantors.
Pensioners shouldn't be signing guarantor forms in the first place. Estate agents have no clue what the fellas finances were like.
i hope the lawmakers watch this and consider adjusting the laws...14 days to get out, they never leave, so more cost to landlords...then the tenants leave a disastrous mess, then the council rewards the scumbags by free housing and the landlord never gets a penny for all their effort..never seen such a messed up system...uk can do better...
I know. No wonder most landlords to not rent to people on a low income who fail credit checks, for decent properties. Also housing benefit used to be paid direct to the landlord which was actually better and safer. I don't know why they changed that system.

Nobody should sign to be a guarantor if they aren't prepared to pay the rent . It doesn't matter who asks.
yes you are right but if your trying to help out your children who turns out to be a fu** di**head, that when being a guarantor bites you back end hard. That's why more and more people refuse to be a guarantor. I lost a loads of so call friends and family be refusing to lend money or being guarantor but I am living in peace for it

except it is his fault, he knew his son and he signed on to be his guarantor anyway.
So this episode is very old. I did a quick google search and Paul did a go fund me for Alan and raised a lot of money for him. Alan was beyond grateful and couldn’t believe the kindness of strangers. Very touching how many were moved by Alan and the disgusting way his son treated him.

This happens a lot in America, we call co-signer. And if the person fails to pay the rent, the co-signer is liable for the rent. I feel for the elder man.
Yes and in the UK Is usually a parent who owns their own home (not like the old man as far as I know who probably did not own anything) so you can enforce against the parent and make them sell their own home.
Never be a guarantor ever. I am reasonably well off but would never do it ever for any of my children - it can sour relationships. If they cannot afford a place then they should be letting it. On the Bristol one I hope he got it secured, cleared and sold because there are far too many lay abouts in that area keen to steal land and squat.

Why do people have so little respect for their homes and live like pigs? Poor is no excuse.
Any rental agent who allows an old person to stand guarantee for someone else without checking the guarantor has the financial where with all to make payments when the renter defaults - shame on you, you deserve all that you get - nothing. If that old man was brought up in court the judge would laugh at you.

In the usa , squatting in a commercial property is trespassing.
In English law since 2012 it is criminal to squat in residential but not commercial property.

why do landlords always blame tenants for not moving out? when the tenant can't get rehoused by the council until the bailiffs evict them as the council doesn't consider it an emergency
where did these same tenants come from in the first place if they now got now were to go? if a tenant can't get rehoused by the council its not the problem of the landlord

@@Billy-The-Goat well to start the landlord should have done more thorough checks on the tenants before they moved in. They also should start eviction proceedings after the 2nd month of not getting rent. I never blamed the Landlord in my message as its ultimately the council that's to blame for it, since they won't rehouse them until the bailiffs get involved since the council get more money that way.
That is correct and why most landlords would not get a tenant on gum tree rather than from a high end letting agent with lots of references and high income. That system needs to change

Paul Ainsworth-lord isn't the owner of the property - he's just the agent who rents it out. He has no power to "write off" the debt.

Jonathon is a wealthy posh git who bought the land very cheaply because it had tenants. He already had more than enough money to buy a retirement home in Italy or France because properties in European countries are cheaper than in ripoff UK.
He bought the land cheap and now wants to evict the van dwellers and make them homeless, in order to get a nice quick profit.
I dislike Jonathon.
He's perhaps the only 'landlord' I've not felt sorry for.
Jonathon doesn't need the land to live on. He bought the land just to have it and sell it again. He bought it *knowing* that people who had nowhere else to live, were living on it. All Jonathon can see is ££££££ and a luxury villa in Tuscany. What does Jonathon care about human beings living in a cardboard box on the street. Heck, Jonathon probably steps over such as they and tuts because they clutter up the streets.
I just heard that Jonathon's surname is Price. That's like my brother in law. Exact same name. This Jonathon price bought a new suite for the living room and advertised his old one. He had inflated ideas about what a saggy secondhand suite is worth and he had no takers. So he loaded it up and took it to the council tip.
In order that it couldn't be recycled, and that a needy person didn't get it cheap, he sawed it up first and slashed the cushions. I guess it must be a Jonathon Price thing.
