- Part 7: Peleliu Hills
This episode is a real rollercoaster between horror and heartbreak. I do wish we'd seen more of Haldane, he was obviously so important to all the boys. Watching the respect and sadness after his death was devastating.
Thank you for being here, but please try not to leave me any spoilers.😉

My dad served on a navy ship that was sunk in the Pacific. The torpedo blasts broke his back - he floated for days before he got rescued. He stayed at a hospital in Hawaii for two years before being discharged. He suffered the rest of his life with back pain.
Your father sounds like he had someone watching over him, or he was as tough as nails. What a fighter!
I can't imagine the hell these men went through. This series does a great job giving us a glimpse of what it was like, but it was actually so much worse. Hang in there, Amy. Its important that this story be shared with the world so we never forget the tremendous sacrifice made by our greatest generation. Your reactions are genuine and I'm really enjoying your take on this great series. I'm looking forward to the next one. 💚
I love that you see through "Snafu's" charade. He indeed has a heart!
Eugene was probably counting days in that scene. Marines love to count days. In Vietnam, we used to have "short timers calendars". That was an actual calendar that we marked off the days until we went home. Guys with less than a month left were called "short timers". They would get really nervous about going out on operations at that point. If you had let's say 20 days left, you would say "I have 19 days and a wake-up". Eugene had become what his father had feared.
WWII service wasn't like that. They were fighting till the war was over.
@@ericsierra-franco7802 They did do some rotating which is why Sid got to go home. You had to have an unblemished record, which is rare.
Captain haldane was highly respected by all. Sledges book was dedicated to him
Oh wow!
Thank you for everything you do. Can’t express how much enjoyment i get from your channel
Thank you for putting up with me 😂
Nice to see a lovely young lady seeing what these men went through and showing the respect that a lot of todays young dont have well done love 100% respect to you.
Thank you so much!
Great reaction! Sledge was counting days in the intro. The Japanese were dug in deep on Peleliu with over 500 caves and there were around 12,500 Japanese soldiers on the island, plus around 500 Korean slaves they forced with slave labor for building caves.
The Japanese every single night would raid or sneak into allied positions, and would try and kidnap soldiers to torture, or would try and stab as many as possible. They would play dead, all kinds of sadistic tactics as they were filled with hate for their enemies.
In the end, only 300 Japanese actually surrendered. The rest were either killed, or hid in the caves, some until 1960 several decades after WWII was over.
That sounds terrifying. I couldn't imagine being on an island with enemies hidden in so many places.
I really love your reactions, you can tell they really come from your heart! 😊
I wonder if Eugene recalls what his father said to him about treating servicemen who had "had their souls torn out." The episode lasts an hour. Company K was on Peleliu a month.
There was a saying among US troops, "The British fight for King and Country, Russians fight for the Motherland, Germans fight for their Furher, and Americans fight for souvenirs."😊
In the ocean, they were really just trying to get clean
Thanks Amy!
You are so welcome!

Slege said he was thrown off by them handing out juice after what they went threw. The guy being smart apologied after everyone gave him the I will f you up stare.
I think we all agree that he deserved the I will f you up stare 😆
You said it perfectly Bugg. You and they had to numb themselves to that war and the images of pure slaughter. Horrible. Another great reaction Bugg!
Where’s your furry co-reactor??😆
She wasn't up for her usual appearance 😂
The thousand closeups of Sledge staring in this series is an annoying weakness.
