Poor Ryan, being attacked by a large stone and hurting his finger, finding out that someone died near his apartment and now not being left in charge, never mind, we're here for you son! Be brave!
I agree, there have been many that passed away in the convent. Especially during WW2, and perhaps even WW1 that nun took care of that were injured and died.
I'd like to request that Simon read a children's book in that quiet comforting voice of his so I can play it over and over again when I have trouble falling asleep. It lulls you. I'm not saying that what he's describing in the videos is uninteresting, he just has a calming voice.
You should consider having a hanging display cabinet to showcase all the "archeological finds" recovered during the renovation. Also, perhaps a plaque with the names/companies who contributed to the renovation.
Billy, you seriously need to get the convent blessed. Now you know there was a suspicious death there, it's better you have all of your bases covered....also reassuring for Ryan. Much love & light. 🙏💖

Hundreds of years ago, Christian buildings were built atop much older pagan sites as a way of honouring the site itself, and to keep it for the people, as it was always used for worship. The red pottery reminds me of samian ware. It was mass produced in Gaul (France) in the 1st/2nd century by the Romans. Roman glass was very thin. The grey bowl/cup is wheel made, and the fact you have the profile will make identification much easier.
What a great team Yannis and Simon are! The convent slowly reveals it’s secrets….The young woman who died likely panicked from the fire, and slipped and fell down the stairs.
5:12 I'm wondering if workmen a few hundred years ago used that sloping stone as a ramp to get wheelbarrows up into the building. The original floor before the stone was laid down would've been at about the height of the back of that stone.
Well Ryan, if you hear strange noises in the night or see objects moving or flying across the room you know you have a roommate. If the walls start bleeding “Get Out” it’s time to move back downstairs to the original apartment! 😂

This place was a somewhat secluded convent. With an adjoining hospital. Through some of the worst times in history.... You have no IDEA how many people died in that place! We had a house fire that damaged 85% of our house. After renovations, we still got a seepage like that drip down the wall that you saw in the first room (in the top apartment). Yes, Simon. I’d really like to see more archeological finds. These pieces add so much to the understanding of what went on in this, what seems, to be a multi use building. Billy, I still think putting up a night camera would be cool.
Simmon has really become a natural in front of the camera. We are beginning to see that nothing fazes Simmon. Always has a smart comment to follow any situation. He is very funny.

Very interesting-another convent story. It’s full of mysteries. Simon’s attention to details is so impressive-a true artisan. He is so lucky to have Yannis, too.
Roman field archeologist here: Hard to tell without a closeup shot, but my first impression of the large stone below the entry is that the cut section could have been part of a threshold. Generally though, thresholds were cut from rectangular pieces, so probably not. A stone portico possibly, provided that is consistent with the era. Speaking in broad generalities, thinner pottery tends to be Roman, but you'd have to contact a local pottery form specialist. However, the 2 pieces painted red sure look like a Gaul made wear known to have been produced during the Roman occupation of England and France. It's called Samian wear. Simon, keep digging!!
I hope eventually Billy that a room in the Convent will be made into a museum room to display all the things you find whilst doing the renovations ……! A photographic display of every step of the journey would be good too …..! Xx

Finding pottery at an historic excavation site can tell a story about life at a site. If there are not enough fragments, it can be puzzling at times unless experts can identify what they are is key to knowing about them and what they were. An American in St. Louis, Missouri (The 2nd Empire Strikes Back channel) had a guy come over to metal detect his front and back yard for discarded historic bits and pieces. He has kept them as mementos hoping they belonged to the previous two owners.
The first pottery chips remind me of what was popular in the 1970s. The second glass piece is like antique glass, as drinking vessels were made paper thin.

Billy, it's satisfying to see you all work together as a team in achieving your goals in the restoration of the convent. I like the idea of having the original stonework that was used in the original construction methods. Of course, over the years, changes and upgrades were made to personal taste with safety in mind. Reminds me of the work I did with my dad on our home additions. I remember mixing sand and mortar by hand and in later years with an electric cement/mortar mixer. He was better at placing the mortar on the bricks. I liked the demolition and cleaning of old brick and cleanup. Our teamwork was both satisfying and rewarding in making a house a better home. I can understand the feeling of knowing about the suspicious death in or near Ryan's apartment is a little unsettling. Hope he will be alright. It would give me the heebie-jeebies too. My dad died in our house but many years later it does not bother me anymore.
Billy enjoy your holiday! Well deserved for both of you. Your not allowed any communication. No phones no filming. No watching the videos. Trust the people you leave in charge. Zone out!
Have a wonderful holiday with the family Billy. I look forward to Simon running the show while you are gone. Alex is so talented and his addition to making the videos for you is excellent. See you in 10 days.
What an interesting video! Love the pottery finds and the story about the apartment. The look on Ryan’s face was perfect 😄 Billy have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your time away 🥰
Yes, Simon please continue looking for historical pieces of the convent. I'm really enjoying watching Simon working his magic working on this convent project.
Hi Simon! We think the pottery looks very similar to post medieval Cistercian ware or black ware. Not sure if there is a French equivalent. Of course English pottery was exported to the Continent. Could also be German black glazed stoneware - the lip is very similar to a flagon we have from the 16th century. It's great to see you so interested in the small finds around the chateau - looking forward to see what else you find! Gail & Alex
I think that step at the entrance was part of an older building. It was pretty different to the existing building in style and it's depth certainly suggest it's from another time period. I think the oddly laid stone was a ramp for barrows. Possibly the archway was permanently open and the doors into the building started either side of the corridor?
Could be, but it's also below the corridor flagstones, which, with inclusion of the basement entrance, probably original to the convent as we know it. It's probably fairly easy to check for older buildings on this site? I'm assuming France also has an equivalent of the doomsday book? Especially as it was the French that implimented it here in the UK.
Enjoying your channel every day! Ryan, Yannis, Alex and Simon are a valuable addition to the channel!! LoL about Ryan’s jokes and funny faces! Cheers from NL❤
Splendid videography! Love all the various angles and closeup shots. Great attention to detail with fitting music. This channel is extraordinary. Love the historical aspect of the Covent, along with archeological because of Simon. He's is quite articulate, and his cadence of speech is a storyteller's dream. 😊 😊
When the Convent is done and turned into a wedding venue or boutique hotel, there needs to be a virtual reality room where guests can experience the history and traditions, along with the massive renovation that took place in this historic building.

Zone out!
Have a great holiday Billy! I'll miss you but can't lie that I'm looking forward to lots of Simon content 😊

I can’t be the only one loving these longer videos. Hope you all have an awesome well deserved holibobs.
Yes, Simon please continue looking for historical pieces of the convent. I'm really enjoying watching Simon working his magic working on this convent project.
Def like to see some stuff found in the ground.
That rock by step is pretty interesting. Could be possibly from a previous building.
@@YaaLFH ya better have a word with Simon =)
Enjoying your channel every day! Ryan, Yannis, Alex and Simon are a valuable addition to the channel!! LoL about Ryan’s jokes and funny faces! Cheers from NL❤
Splendid videography! Love all the various angles and closeup shots. Great attention to detail with fitting music. This channel is extraordinary. Such camaraderie and educational detail with EVERY video presentation. Billy, this truly is a fantastic project you have undertaken! Always anticipating the next one! Thank you and enjoy your holiday! 🤗
Please continue with the archeological finds and bits of convent history!!!❤😊
