Love HOT IN THE SHADE. Very much in my Top 5. The B-Sides, are wonderful. Paul was so much in his "Jon Bon Jovi - New Jersey" era songwriting, and I just love it. My favorites, "Hide Your Heart", "King Of Hearts", "You Love Me To Hate You", and "Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell". Great video! Have a wonderful week.

The songs you listed are worth the price of admission alone 🤘Also, I’ll fight for ‘Read My Body’ all day long… Paul and Gene trade off in the outro is magic. Lyrically, Paul goes full Bon Scott mode and I fully approve!

@@ThomDust totally agree, the trade off “yeahs” were a high school favorite, and remain to this day!

You are correct. Tommy Thayer did play electric acoustic on Betrayed as well as acoustic on The Street Giveth and the Street Taketh away.

I understand the criticism of the album feeling bloated and filler heavy but when you listen to it from your least favorite song to your top favorite, the album is such a 5⭐️ gem. ending the album with King of Hearts is perfect in every level for me. I adore this one

Great show folks. I like HOTS. It's not their best album by any means, but it has some good tunes on it. I have heard this album is actually a bunch of unfinished demos that Paul put together as Gene was mainly a no-show during the recording. Story has it, Paul stopped Gene one day as he was leaving the studio and Paul read him the riot act. Letting him know he wasn't pulling his weight and that it couldn't stand if it continued! As we all know, Gene came back with a vengeance on Revenge. Giving KISS his full attention once again. The HOTS tour was one of the best I ever saw! Opening with "I Stole Your Love" was awesome! Us "old" KISS fans were getting off on this show! With Leon the Sphynx, the lasers, the giant KISS sign rising up from the depths, like a Phoenix rising during "I Want You"! It was mesmerizing!

You said it right in the beginning. I have always wanted Kiss to release an album with just the opening songs. I would open it with Detroit Rock City and close it with Psycho Circus. 👍🤘🎸Probably the only criticism I have about Hot in the Shade is the final out -put of the recording level of the audio of the songs through an audio system. Without getting to technical, I never understood how Paul let that happen. I have expressed this to him in the past.

I saw this tour twice : June 30th '90 at the Meadowlands in E Rutherford NJ and Eric Carr's last show on Nov 9th at Madison Square Garden in NY.

The reason Rise to It came out 6 months later was because the tour was postponed. The album came out in October, the tour was supposed to start in February with Britny Fox opening, but was rescheduled to May. Paul and Gene did a long radio promo tour in the interim before the tour started. At least, that's how I remember it. :)

Kiss Xposed came out in 1987, and as we all know, Hot in the Shade was released two years later.

I didn't listen to this album until I was working on my popculturefromanalternatedimension blog when I was trying to meld Ace and Peter with it. It had some surprises that I enjoyed, like Paul's slide steel guitar opening.

To further the idea of HITS being somewhat of a concept album… the album cover, being a postcard from Egypt… Cleopatra, one of the most famous seductresses in history… Rosa/Johnny/Tito… Cleopatra/Marc Anthony/Julias Caesar … Little Caesar 🤔!
Ending with Boomerang… history always repeats itself.

I LOVE IT!!! 👏Daphne even mentioned after the show that Rosa, Tito, and Johnny's names all start with the same letters as the characters in Romeo & Juliet. Romeo (Rosa) Johnny (Juliet) Tito (Tybalt)... crazyy!!

This album gets more hate than it deserves IMO. I really enjoy it and rarely skip any songs. And totally agree about You Love Me to Hate You. I never got the comparison to Joan Jett’s song. Lyrically, it’s not saying the sane thing and musically it doesn’t sound similar. So I never understood why people compare them.
Your review is much more positive than the Kiss FAQ podcast’s review😂 And as someone who really likes this album I appreciate that! 😎

Robin Beck also covered Hide Your Heart on her album. Also highly recommend Holy Knights Autobiography. A great read.

Does it have bonus songs to fill out that paltry 81 song original tracklist? This is the record where I went Awol from the KISS army. Briefly reenlisting for Revenge.

The opening is not country, it's supposed to be blues.
