Hyped for this man! It's looking sick so far. Proxies are definitely going to be your best friend as your project grows. Just wrapped a feature as an assistant editor, and proxies were our lifeline to manage the massive amounts of data. Our lead editor also was using the M1. Cheers. Can't wait for what's next.
Your pacing for talking over the vision, the gear, and the challenges/pros and cons is excellent. Carries the viewer through nicely. Can’t wait to see more (hopefully)!
Filmed my buddies 100 mile race last year and totally agree with on shooting for coverage. Sometimes you need to capture then pick and choose the visuals in post.
You’re amazing Eric!! So excited to see what comes of this documentary. Really cool getting to see a little into the BTS and learn more about gear at the same time 👏
Wow this is amazing. So inspiring to see how others create documentaries. I'ts defintinly something I want to dip in to so this was really helpful to watch. Can't wait for the final product!
Hi Eric. I admire your journey from a wedding photographer to a documentary film maker. Of course your still into wedding and stuff. But it’s inspiring for me. I used to be a mechanical engineer and trying to be a film maker .. at least on UA-cam. Take care buddy..
This is sooo awesome to see and crucial insight for any creative! Thanks for this Eric! Alsoooo, what font are you using for the talk points? I love it! 😍
BTS shots are gorgeous 👏🏻 Get the C70. It’s amazing. I’m coming from the C200 as well. That DGO sensor is noticeable. I think you’ll find the C70 body better than you think for this style of doc.
I would recommend keeping the c200 and r5, and then just renting a cinema camera on a project basis. When I started doing this instead of buying ALL the gear i need to create sth, I felt more free to choose the right tools (body and lenses) for professional projects.
How the hell are you able to shoot the R5 in RAW without over heating???! I am traveling to Portugal this summer for a fashion client. I would love to use my R5 to keep my kit small but it has overheated on me a ton in the past. Thanks in advance!
The 4K 10 bit on the c70 is super clean and the recent raw upgrade is 👌The file sizes aren’t too bad either. The only gripe I have with it is the top handle. Coming from the C200 it’s not super rig friendly and feels kind of cheap. Overall it’s a great B cam. Love how the doc is looking though. Cant wait to see more of it!
Great to know. I’m hoping to rig it in a way that gets me stoked. If not, I’m definitely interested in their next RF mount cine cameras. Will probably snag one of those too.
Hear me out. Export in 10 bit. You’re getting so much banding in the shadows. The light looks great but not if it falls apart. H.265 has a 10 bit and 4:2:2 option
If you aren't already, I'd start using a program that offers checksum verification for copying your cards. I personally use Hedge (there's other options) and it really gives you the peace of mind when transferring your media and immediately wiping the card to use it again. I personally would never use Finder to copying anything slightly important. Also, even using a basic file management structure and sticking to it the entire time would be super helpful (ProjectName > Day01 > Footage), and then from there you can start building out your project in Premiere and organizing things further within Premiere itself instead of messing with the files in Finder. One of the reasons to never change file names and location of the files is if you are using multiple backups (local / offsite), and you have a drive failure and have to relink files you could really create a disaster with a massive project and endless files that now no longer match the originals.

Your pacing for talking over the vision, the gear, and the challenges/pros and cons is excellent. Carries the viewer through nicely. Can’t wait to see more (hopefully)!

I would jump ship to a RAID 5 NAS system for your file management :)

Bought a snorricam rig 🤘

Rick, this looks absolutely unreal. Can also confirm that I've vomited at also every location you've film at in Nashville
Dang my dogs were barkin too after all that walking
Braxton is the real MVP even though he's blacklisted by Joe on all socials.
Where is the doc?
Hoping for premieres this spring!
I am a hard no on Greer. But the effort and skills put into this documentary are top notch.
I hope this doc allows you to see Joe in a different light that you haven't before.
😮💨😮💨😮💨
