    Dallas and his brothers are a prime example of a miserable mammie not raising and doing right by her kids and pushed her misery on them and never taking ownership of her mistakes. I did wish Rona and Jim had a little more dialogue on his affair though. Movie was better then the netflix one.

    I think Benji is supposed to represent the good guy that often gets overlooked. Dallas is the bad boy who comes from a bad family- he’s exciting, he’s aggressive, he’s a stud, he’s what many of us think of as “masculine” which is why she fell head over heels for him. So the purpose of the contrast between Benji and Dallas was to feed into the stereotype that women often mistakenly pick the exciting bad boys over the good, sensible but boring men.

    Now you know you were expecting too much. It’s Tyler Perry. You are gonna get what he has been successfully serving for over 20 years. Some Christianity ✝️, the damsel, the elder wisdom, the person who gonna pop off and the Knight. And how could I forget… the Villain. Girl it is what it is. My expectations is exactly what Tyler gave. I enjoyed the 2 hours of escapism and mindlessness. Now when I want a really good movie Tyler never comes to mind but he has his place. Go Meghan. She was a producer on this movie!

      You've never been to a funeral in Arkansas because I have seen something a little too close to this movie funeral TWICE. They didn't take the body out the casket, but the preacher went IN on the entire family of the man who died (gun violence), and the mother stood up, cursed him out and walked out. Her husband stayed for a few minutes, then she screamed at him from the back of the sanctuary and he ran out. I was around 14 when that happened and still remember it!

    I watched it. (insert Deep Negro Spiritual Sigh) TBH, I was over it when Mama stripped down to her slip all up in the church house at her son's funeral. Who does that?? I had a hard time understanding, with Dallas' anti-social, violent history, why were there no security folk at any of the places he showed his behind? Was Rona's behavior at the bank at all realistic? Like, after she loudly cussed Dallas and chased him out, she returned to her customer, "I'm back, sir", as if nothing happened. (damn) Benji taking his sweet time whooping Dallas' behind. Daddy going after the Ma Barker & the Boys with his one lil pew pew. Jim - WTH- you need better friends when you always have to disrupt your plan to go after ol crazy man and ya boy tries to straight blow up your life for spite! I see what the movie was trying to do but it didn't really get it done. I'm pretty much in line with your assessment. It made me tired but at least it wasn't "Mea Culpa" bad.

    The hints of us truly understanding Dallas and the reasons for who he was could have really made this a good script. TP could have leaned into him offing his dad, but we got nothing. Even the random confession of Rona's husband cheating with Kelly. I wanted to know more about that. There was a chance for subplots that were missed. Such an unfulfilling storyline, but as per usual, TP uses religion as a character backstory and he doesn't know how to write outside of that.

    • @mysweetperspective
      @mysweetperspective  3 місяці тому +2

      I agree, this story had so much potential but fell flat. I wanted to know the history of the Bertrans, why the mother made Dallas take out the daddy, why they pressed for her needing a lawyer at the signing, Why Rona was so big and bad with everyone but her man, and why he man was friends with Dallas in the first place. He could've told a great story, but alas...

    I liked the movie enough, but it seemed like once she got back to Atlanta too much was going on and I didn’t want to keep up. And I know they were only an Hr and half away but damn they must keep gas in their car to be traveling back and forth that much in 1 day. The end was like it was TP version of enough.. and I had had enough. My biggest problem with TP movies is he never does proper character development anymore, most of the side characters are so one note and the best friend Jim pissed me off more than any of the other men in the film. The OG actors (love Debbie Morgan and her dimples) did the best they could with what was given. Meagan was good, loved the running scene and her crying and realizing the bs she went through because we’ve been there at least once in our lifetime but after the divorce signing it was too much for such a short amount of time.. no buildup and then it’s over 🤷🏽‍♀️ I did enjoy yelling at my phone.

    This move started off in typical Tyler Perry fashion. But I have to admit that compare to his last 3 films, Mea Culpa, Fall From Grace, and Acrimony, this was a tad better. It was still bad but a little better. He's been making trash melodramatic, wanna be thrillers for the past several years and they are so bad. But he knows his audience and fans and he is giving them what they want and they are making him filthy rich. I was wondering if Netflix dropped him so Amazon Prime picked him up. Although though the movies get panned by critics, they are still making plenty of money. I think black people who have experienced toxic abusive relationships or a traumatic childhood can connect to TP movies and think that every black person's life is like this when it's not. I was expecting more to happen in a dramatic TP style, when Meagan signed the divorce papers without an attorney or reading over the papers again. Where was security in the bank scene? I could go on and on but at the end of the day, the ending wasn't nearly as dramatic and crazy as his previous movies so hopefully he'll get better. But it's all about the money. He's not trying to win an Oscar.

    I’m sorry to say this, but Tyler Perry’s material is about as logical as someone saying that they are afraid of heights and then running across a thin pole attached between two skyscrapers at the very top. As a writer for screen and television, I scratch my head on why people actually think that this man writes and delivers material that uplifts the black community. Everything I have seen from him particularly in the last 10 years has caused me to lose brain cells, I love your commentary, but this one girl I couldn’t hang with.

      I understand.. I just need him to fix it.. Stop making black women the victims fighting for their lives in every single movie.. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll change, he gets the viewership every single time 🤦🏽‍♀️

To see how loving you were too the project and particularly a project that spoke volumes about being black, gay, and searching for dignitywhile dealing with flaws was immensely gratifying. Your reviews are so honest and insightful. But I have to disagree with this one. Tyler Perry redeemed himself with Divorce In The Black, after the disappointing Mea Copa. This film is right up there with Tyler’s first hit Diary of a Mad Black Woman. And Megan good deserves an Oscar nomination or at least a NAACP Image Award, for her amazing performance. The movie had so many twist and turns, I stayed clued to the Prime Video Channel. My only complaint was the ending because I feel the story should have expanded on the storyline involving Dallas confession that the evil Mama encouraged him to kill his father. I wanted to see that bitch marched straight to jail. But that was my only complaint to this excellent film. Tyler Perry is Back with a vengeance and I’m here for it!

      I’m glad people are enjoying it and I’m super glad the actors got paid more than they’ve made before. That’s a win in my book.

    Tyler Perry, I like him for most of his movies and some of his shows, but not everything so when I saw the trailer to this movie, I knew that this was not something I would waste energy or time to go see and you giving us how things were actually was no different on how I thought it would be so I have no problem with him getting his coins 🪙 if somebody’s gonna pay for it but I’m not going to pay for it and when it comes on TV, I doubt if I will watch it either.🤦🏾🙈
