    I just found out a couple of days ago that I've been accepted to Texas A&M's fall 2021 semester as an international student from India. I've been wanting to major in Comp Sci so I'm happy I stumbled across this video. No, in fact those are requirements to get into the major. Chem 107 and Phys 206 are the two classes you need for ETAM in terms of science. What we’re trying to get at is that you should take certain major specific classes earlier if that’s a possibility so you won’t be overloaded later in the degree plan. Sorry for the confusion! I’d take a look at the degree plan and creating a schedule that works for you. Good luck!

Also, are you saying to take math 151 and skip math 152 with using AP CALC BC credit. Final thing, I am right now in ap lit, ap chem, apes, ap comp sci principles, gov and econ and ap calc bc. What ap exams do you think I shoudl prioritze based on what will help me for my major.

    FOR ETAM IF I HAVE A 3.5 GPA I CANT GET INTO CS? DO I HAVE TO HAVE A 3.75 OR HIGHER?

    • @prancast5954
      @prancast5954  3 роки тому +1

      So as of Spring 2021, the required GPA for automatic admission into CS through ETAM is actually 3.75 on a 4.0 Scale. However, through holistic review, a 3.5 GPA is possible. And if you don’t make automatic admission, try it again the following semester. Chances are, this time with more classes on your roster, and more time to improve your GPA, you can do it. Thanks and good luck!

    • @prancast5954
      @prancast5954  3 роки тому +1

      So you’ve actually got 2 options, well 3 if you’re in Texas. One way is to talk to your advisor and see if there’s an equivalence exam or credit you can take for it. Another way, and possibly the way most students do it, is to take the AP Calculus BC exam and get a 5 on it. And lastly, if you’re in Texas, you can take Calculus Dual Credit classes (DC) that will give you that transfer credit for 151 and 152. However, in terms of prerequisites, you’d just have to get an acceptable score on your Math Placement exam and have 151 (or an equivalent credit) good to go for it. Thanks for watching!

      One of the ETAM requirements is that you do a minimum of two science courses through A&M so be sure that is covered before trying to take either class via a community college. As for which one is harder, that all comes down to personal preference.

    I am a senior in high school who has accepted admission for CECS and have a few questions.
    1. I have a bunch of credit from ap scores and dual credit and so with my classes split up evenly, I have 2 semesters with 11 credits. WIll they make an exception or will I have to take another class? If I try to take future classes then I won't even be close to 12 credits for my later semesters. Will I have to take some random class to get to 12 credits?
    2. For my first semester, I have Engr 102, Hort 203 (floral design class, very easy), math 251, and csce 121, do you think that is an easy schedule and will I be able to get a spot for csce 121 and how hard is that class?

    • @prancast5954
      @prancast5954  3 роки тому

      1. 11 credits should be fine, but my advice is to take some classes earlier on so your workload can be significantly less later on. Also it looks good for recruiters. But no, you won’t have to take another class or anything of that sort.
      2. that’s a tough one. 121 is a little difficult but that’s just because they want it to be. I’d have a solid understanding of C++ before going to that class, but you should be fine. Overall, the schedule looks good. I took 121 my spring semester of freshman year, so I think chances are that you can get in. Watch our video on introductory programming coursework schedule for more on this class! It’s useful in understanding the framework

Please respond, it can help me choose my college, if I get enough confidence that I can switch from Econ to CS because I really don't want to stay in Econ. • @prancast5954

      To switch to a CS major is pretty difficult at Texas A&M but according to the college of engineering you first need to complete both cal 1 and cal 2 along with two science courses while also maintaining a 3.0 GPA. But to be competitive and have a better chance you will probably need a much higher GPA because they put a premium on kids that are already in the college of engineering and are ETAMing

      Howdy! A&M is a great college to major in Computer Science (it’s actually one of the top programs in the state!) Computer Science, nonetheless, requires the Entry-To-A-Major Process at the end of your first year doing General Engineering, with a cumulative GPA currently of 3.75. It’s fairly easy to do if you’re strong in Math and Science; specifically, Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. If you’d like, you can check out the major requirements and courses for CS at A&M here engineering.tamu.edu/cse/academics/degrees/undergraduate/bs-cs.html. Thanks for watching! Hope this helps!

    • @prancast5954
      @prancast5954  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! I definitely recommend taking certain sophomore classes as a freshman if possible. Some of these, such as CSCE 121, can be taken as a general engineering major. However, a majority of CS courses at TAMU have a major designation requirement (meaning you have to be in that major to register; in other words, gone through ETAM). I would take CSCE 121 as a freshman so you can get ahead into it! As for Math 151 and 152, that we can’t really tell you much about. For ETAM, it is required that you take a certain number of Math and Science courses (preferably at TAMU, but with approval from advisor, through AP Credit). I personally recommend taking Math 151 if you’re wanting that GPA boost, and to understand how college calculus works. I recommend skipping one of the two though, if you really want to. Thanks for watching!
