Madeira Portugal 2022 | Rabaçal Levada - (25 Fountains) - Madeira's Most Popular Walk

- We hope you enjoy this Madeira Portugal walk along the Rabaçal Levada - commonly known as the 25 Fountains. It's Madeira's most popular levada walk.
The 25 Fontes (25 fountains) levada is one of the most popular in Madeira Island. It is named after the number of fountains or little waterfalls you'll encounter. Trail PR 6.1 goes along Levada do Risco, at 1000m above sea level, taking the hiker to an impressive waterfall, which falls vertically, creating a ridge in the rock. If you go down to PR6 you can visit Lagoa das 25 Fontes, 25 water springs created by the waters that come down from Paul da Serra.
At this height the landscape is dominated by heaths. You can spot the rare mountain mocano (Pittosporum coriaceum). These species are part of the Laurisilva forest of Madeira, classified in 1999 as a Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. Both ‘levadas’ bring together water from two tributaries of Ribeira Grande, run into the Calheta Hydroelectric Dam and carries on to irrigate agricultural land.
Walking the Rabaçal Levada is one of the top 10 things to do in Madeira.

Oooh wow, so we’re back in Madeira and what a walk this will be, I’ll be watching this in full later and I’m very much looking forward to it.
Indeed we are RBS, and we'll be whisking you off to who knows where! Hope you enjoy the walk.
What a wonderous walk, I know I’ll be revisiting this one again and again. The trees at 18:00 made me think of the shire. Top work as always LW!
I know what you mean about the shire, it's the moss too I think!
Nice.place for trekking
Oh yes, VTV, some of the best here in Madeira I feel.

It's a lovely walk. Thank you for recording most of it.
Glad you enjoyed it, you're really welcome. It's a really great walk isn't it. I have a couple more levada walks on the channel if that's helpful? All the best to you.
@@LivingWalks Thanks. I'm looking at another one but the teleporting so often is rather annoying. Otherwise, they're great walks. And thanks for no music.
Ha ha yes I do understand that Cris, we'll have to do an uncut one next time. All the best.
@@LivingWalks Thanks. I appreciate your understand and good humor.

Many thanks Don, it’s always a pleasure to hear from you and to know you are enjoying walking with us. How nice it would be to walk together for real someday.
Amazing Beautiful walking, i’m your fan
Thank you so much 👍 How nice to hear you are enjoying the walks.
Ah beautiful! It looks a bit like La Gomera in the Canaries
Yes very similar from what we've seen of La Gomera! Thanks for dropping by friend.
Beautiful video and views! I see that parts of the walk are very narrow. Could they be dangerous (especially for someone with fear for heights), or it’s only an impression?
Hi there @user-rr6fb4wy6u, well it's true to say that many of the levadas are certainly what you might call vertiginous, some on the other hand, like the Paradise Valley are much wider and flatter and very easy and safe to walk. (I do have a couple more levada walks here to give you an idea of that). I'd certainly recommend a levada walk or two, and with a little research you'll find the perfect one for you and I'm sure you'll love the experience. All the best to you.
@@LivingWalks thank you so much!!
How interesting. Beautiful hike. I read it is close to 8 miles to hike the entire hike. Wonderful video. Hi from Sandpoint, Idaho USA.
Hiya HD, yes that's right, so just a short one really but very satisfying. The Levada's certainly make Madeira special. For us it makes this small island feel vast. Hope you and the 'missus' get to visit someday? How's the snow in Sandpoint, it's a tad chilly in Antalya but glorious when your in a sunny spot.
@@LivingWalks Snow is melting. Looking forward to spring and summer for sure.
@@HurleyDeanSandpoint Good to hear it's easing off. same here, looking forward to the Spring. There's snow on the nearby mountains here in Antalya Turkey and feels cooler than the UK at the mo'.
very nice adventure!
I'm glad you enjoyed walking on the Levada with us Eduardo!
@@LivingWalks 10!
Hi so nice and smoth, how to get there without a car ? are there buses to get there?
Hi there Zaretow, we did it with an organised walk as I think it's a little tricky to get to by car. I'd recommend that, it really wasn't too expensive!
