This is my favorite RC car ever! I got a Tamiya Lunchbox when I was a kid (I still have it), then, I got into racing, so I never got a Grasshopper until recently. It's so much fun to drive and it will run for a lot longer than most RC cars because the stock 380 motor doesn't drain the battery quickly. I've got quite a collection of RC cars but I drive the Grasshopper way more than anything else. My son has the Rising Fighter and he really likes it a lot. He calls it the "blue Grasshopper" It's basically a Grasshopper 2, so, he's partly right. They are the two most fun and used cars we have. It's great that Tamiya is still making these kits. Our Traxxas cars are faster but they just aren't as much fun. It's hard to explain why we like the older cars better but I think that it's got something to do with the way that the they bounce.
I moved to Japan in 1985 when I was 11 and I remember if you owned a grasshopper, you were a nerd because it only had a '360' motor - You were cool if you owned a Boomerang, because it had a '540' motor, but I remember something about how you can upgrade the grasshopper motor to '540' - Good times -
As a kid I always loved watching these promotional videos in my local model shop, I was and still am a huge fan of Tamiya RC cars and to this day I still have my original Subaru Brat, Wild One and Porsche 959 Paris Dakar as well as a Re-Re Wild Willy, all work and all restored to perfect. They are like my children I love them that much, it’s great to see these Promotional films again 👍🇮🇪🇯🇵
A friend of mine had a Grasshopper in the 80's .. Watching this video... those grasshoppers seem to be really crawling along compated to the speeds i remember the grassopper getting - 30+mph!
The Grasshopper rocks!! I am looking forward to bringing mine to the local track and racing the AE b4's and such. They will be laughing so hard they fall off the drivers stand, and then I win!!
Great video I really admire vintage and rerelease Tamiya kits , just I don't get the mention of the Mitsubishi Pajero in this clip. I thought you were leading on to parts interchangeability with the shock absorber units. Nice video though thanks 👍.
TboneNYC10 Tamiya rereleased the Grasshopper 2. It's currently available at many hobby shops. The Grasshopper 2 is very similar to the Rising Fighter which is also available.
This was my first rc car and what really brought me into the rc world. Thanks for posting the video.
My childhood!!!!!! My first Obsession.....Love it
Great RC Car, Amazing impact on the RC world, Thanks for sharing

380 motor gave huge runtime, but less power

“The Grasshopper is ready to take on any challenger”
*Associated RC-10: “Hold my beer.”*
I wore out the front and back tires on a grasshopper in 1985! 25 minute run times on a 1200 mah battery. How many of you can say that?
Nice video!
