- A look at the once great Valley View Mall located in the heart of Dallas, before it's completely demolished. This was a Mall that I shopped at in my younger years, and in the commentary I share a few personal stories.
I have so many great memories of Valley View Mall from when I was a child. Thank you for giving me one last look around and chance to remember the good old days!

I grew up in Dallas and spent most of my preteen and teenage years working or hanging out at Valley View. It was such a vibrant mall in the mid 70s and 80s - hard to believe what's become of it. Nice video - it brought back some good memories of a time long passed...
Unfortunately the mall is now gone.
That's sad about this mall, it was a nice one back in the early 80s. But. My absolute favorite was driving from Whitesboro to Six Flaggs & the Six Flags Mall. Loved the big City back then. Thanks for sharing, your memories & your footage. Your aunt knew you were a kid, she just wanted you to be happy. Your daughter's cute, my granddaughters about her age.
I love the shot of the escalators at 8:43. Art and malls are 2 of my favorite things its unfortunate that didn't work out. I'm sure your aunt getting you a nice shirt made her happy, some people don't want stuff for themselves.

keep 'em coming. you have a great to listen to voice, which is a big factor in what makes dead mall videos watchable or unwatchable. you can have a million videos of a million malls no one else has video of, but if your voice isn't soothing or something....... i can't watch it at all. your videos are so great, keep it up!!!

Thanks for sharing your stories from Valley View Mall. My family moved to Plano in 1974. I remember Valley View, North Park, The Galleria, Prestonwood, Richardson Square, and Collin Creek Mall. My goodness, that's a lot of malls in a relatively close proximity! My brother and I played soccer on the many fields that the Collin Creek Mall later sat on. A father of a friend of mine, who I went to school with, had a hand in designing the Collin Creek Mall.
I lived in Dallas in my early teens, I went there 2-3 times a week. My main haunts were the book stores, the food court, and the huge arcade.
Your story about your Aunt reveals that you are a very nice person because you appreciate her.
Cool video! The story about your aunt was interesting.. if she didn't want to do that, she wouldn't have.. sounds like she was a great soul to everybody! Don't be hard on yourself, I'm sure it made her happy to do that, and to get to spend the time with you.. if she were here right now, she'd talk about the trips there just as fondly as you do

Ah man she definitely was. Like a second mom to me. She was a special ed teacher and she was always going out of her way to buy Christmas presents for a lot of her students that were poverty stricken or underprivileged. I could go on and on, but yeah she was a saint.
I loved this this video. Thanks for giving me a view into what Dallas is like. I've been to the airport about a dozen times, but never actually saw the city.

Another great instalment. I've been in Dallas since '93 and only visited Valley View a couple of times to go to an arcade that was on the east side if I recall correctly. Never realized how nice the interior was. Thanks for this video and your anecdote about your aunt was heartbreakingly sweet.
Thanks for sharing. Personal anecdotes are always appreciated. What I love about these malls the most are the public displays; 10:11 someone went to a good amount of time & energy to design and build them, and they're simply neglected & left derelict. Sad to consider how these are disposed of in the end.
I used to go shopping here with my mom quite a bit in the 80s. Also NorthPark and Town East. Lots of great memories. Thanks!
There is a lot of water damage to the closed off part of the mall part of the ceiling fell as we passed through one of the stores

i remember this mall as a teen, especially the sears. the front of that dept store was always so cool to me with the architecture of the pillars (I suppose they were haha) always gave me vintage vibes. we’d always go there to buy luggage before any of our family vacations. sad to see it go, glad I was able to experience it. thank you for sharing :)) !
Excellent video! The best part was the story about your aunt. Trust me, here pleasure came from seeing you enjoy the gifts. Some people are just like that. Don't regret getting all that stuff as it made her happy.

Thanks man, I appreciate you saying that. I try to keep it light for the most part and leave the historical and technical Mall specs to the other guys. This vid got a little on the sad side... and that wasn't my intention when I was originally filming, but those are the only memories I have of this place, so I put it out there.
Makes me so sad we used to go here when I was a child my dad would drive us from Sherman Texas quite a bit to go here

I spent a lot of time here as a kid. I attended several birthday parties at Farrell's. My sisters called it "Bally Biew" when they were toddlers.

I actually didn't start going to this mall until a couple years ago. The galleria took all the traffic from this mall. I was hoping I would be in this video. Oh well. I try going there so much now before they demolish the place.

It's 2019, and there's no new development of this area. The mall is only partially demolished, with all work halted as the lawsuits continue to pile up. It will probably be years, if ever, before they are resolved. This is nothing new for Dallas. There have been projects over the decades here that have never delivered for a variety of reasons.
I worked at this mall back in 1985 Fletchers corny dog it was thriving then i watched my first rated r movie there Saturday night fever in 1977 i was 9 years old then i remember the ticket lady thought my mom and dad crazy taking me to that movie. I remember being in front of sanger harris on break i saw plane crash at dfw 1985 it was a delta plane many memories at that mall rip valley view mall.
Starting at 5:55 when you're talking about the Godson that was into anime, that place was called Planet Anime. I used to buy import PlayStation games and video game magazines from there.
Interesting seeing the demolition and as soon as you walked in there's a "now leasing" sign. How ironic.

How will they build the new job? Traffic is so thick in this lot we will have to wait until the infrastructure is updated, the freeway update skipped this block, especially didn't provide for the increase in traffic planned.
This may be one of the saddest ones I’ve watched because of the nostalgia. I can remember going to this mall back in its heyday. Taking the bus walking getting cookies from ms fields, magazines from Waldens and shopped at Sears. Even got my Sega Genesis. Great times. Thank you for sharing your story and another great video 👍🏽

i remember prestonwood, valley view, colin creek mall were the IN malls to go too in the early-mid 80s
Didn't Valley View have the Friday's restaurant? I loved going there as a kid
10:11 We had a overhang like that at school, and my friend did jump from it as part of a bet. They put him on suicide watch, and boarded up the railings, so we couldnt look over or jump over anymore.
I recently found a way into the first floor by the parking garage it is a neat mall and was cool to walk through
We're lucky Fiesta Mall is closing but being repurposed instead of demolished like this one. About 5 miles from my house here in Mesa, AZ is a small regional airport called Falcon Field. This used to be the air base where American and British pilots were trained during World War II. There is a museum on-site. The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport also nearby was still Williams Airforce Base when I was a kid. It was also around in World War II.
Seems like a lot of the bigger dead mall and dead retail UA-camrs are out your way in Arizona. A lot to film out there I suppose.

Hate to sound like a broken record but heres yet another great video! I dont know why you stopped making videos but i hope you come back. I know you can make at least enough money to pay for travel to film dead malls. Maybe more. Lots of people financially support these channels. I think you have a unique way of making mall videos and theres room for another great Dead Mall channel.

We're Back!
I went there yesterday to just look around and reminisce & admire the architect because I'm a mall enthusiast myself & luckily I met the manager of the mall.. He told me that it will be up for a year. But most of the mall is closed off including the whole first floor so most of the stores & eateries are gone. Even the foodcourt is closed off so Colters is the only eatery open which moved to the second floor. The only spots that are open are the section where Sears used to be, the AMC, & the section by Dillards. The place is much safer now but it's less to do. I came here rarely as a kid when it was booming but i still remember how enjoyable it was to go there. I remeber The children's museum there! But the only mall that i went to alot was Grapevine Mills. Its my childhood i treasure the place greatly. I hate that they remodled the place, i miss the late 90s look that I enjoyed as a kid. & I miss Gameworks too lol. But Grapevine is still open & booming. But I'm going to miss Valley View though..
Omg the anime store there was lit! Back when I was still in high school on 2012 I would still get stuff from there. So sad to see it go! But thankfully there’s other really good stores for that now!

I think you can only access the movie theaters. Everything else is blocked off or half demolished.
Good memories no lie when I was a kid remember the playground next 2 Sears 😅 gone but not forgotten gone miss you mall R.i.p.
This is a great episode.. Nice narration! Ohh what was your favorite place to eat at the mall there? Good old days when regular Americans could afford to shop but I guess at the expense of third world countries making all the cheap goods. Who took all the wealth?

Very interesting that this mall declined in the 90s, as many older malls peaked in the 90s.
This was a cool mall I went there when I lived in Dallas for 2 years back then I was stupid and didn’t film malls

One of the saddest failures was Irondequoit Mall which changed its name to Medley Centre in Rochester, NY. Do you know of it?

+Liquorhead You'd really love to see it in person. I really think it could be converted to something else. Do you think another convention center is a good idea even though we already have one in downtown Rochester? The only thing that concerns me is that some of the former storefronts sustained water damage from a storm earlier this year. I just hope the building can be salvaged even though I just found out that it will be demolished.

If Midtown Dallas kills the Galleria. I'm going to lose my mind. I cannot lose another beloved lifetime mall of mine. It's like I'm losing a person each time. I feel a spiritual connection to some buildings. Always have as long as I can remember.
The food court now looks like a perfect place for parkour/freerunning.
Just what DFW needs....more crap. >.< However....GRAB ME A BOMBER JACKET FROM THE WW2 MUSEUM! And holy crap...there's a PAY PHONE!!!! I didn't think those EXISTED anymore, let alone usable.... I love curiosity shops. Your aunt sounds like an AWESOME lady! My condolences. Just had a thought, if they put an asian market in there, it would boom.
