I always and forever will love the way Mitch puts his index finger from the hand the hold his mic on his nose when he sings! Whenever I watch him do this while performing i just automatically smile
Such a special night! I was struck by the fact that it takes a whole orchestra to do what Avi and Kevin do. I could usually hear the trio, but it was hard to hear Avi and Kevin a lot of the time when the orchestra was playing, because they were doing the same thing. I prefer just PTX, but it was fun and interesting to hear the concert.
I too prefer PTX doing their own music but I am soo glad I get to see them at least one more time before Avi completely departs, no matter what the scenario... I LOVE PTX!
Yes, they are an A Cappella group however it was really great to have them with a full Orchestra. You could tell It was special for all of the performers. It was quite a treat. Don't forget they had a rehearsal too. Just goes to show that we all recognize talent. I suspect it was a great night for the Hollywood Bowl period. Wish I could have been there as well. Thanks for posting!
Wow, watch MITCH! He is a jumping bean FULL of energy all night! Dancing, dancing, dancing. I rewatched this concert just to concentrate on LOVING and watching Mitch.
That pad is an electronic trigger. They use it to insert recorded beats such as hand claps and things that are very repetitive for Kevin to do while beat boxing other rhythms. If you notice at one point while Kevin is singing, Mitch steps over and uses it.
Maestro Thomas Wilkins is a fabulous conductor. He was the conductor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and put on daughter on stage when she was 6 to conduct, she is now an aspiring cellist. Thank you Maestro!
Yeah they sounded real good when they sang acapella that night. They really have the chops. The occasional orchestra behind them took something away from the performance. I wish I had seen them at The Grove in Anaheim last year (October?). I hear that was the event to experience.
bahadır danışmant yes! And during Daft Punk! Did you see them rocking to the music? The best times during their set was when the conductor sat down!!! 😆😆😆
All these commenters hating on the orchestra. You people be stupid!! The orchestra was great and you could tell Pentatonix enjoyed having the orchestra play with them. The music sounded even MORE epic (not that it wasn't already epic) with the orchestra backing them up and filling up the sound. INCREDIBLE concert!
I love a normal a capella Pentatonix performance, but it's cool to see them having fun with something different. Bonus: The first violin's OBVIOUS deep enjoyment of PTX whenever she's not playing. :D
Everyone says they hated the orchestra but I loved it! We hear PTX all the time without instruments and I thought it was cool to finally see it. With that being said, I'm not saying that they need the orchestra to be good, it's just a really cool one time thing. I'm such a band geek so this was really awesome to watch, thanks for uploading it!😄💕💗👏🏼
I'm not bashing the orchestra at all. I think them singing with the orchestra was so cool and I'm glad that they had an opportunity to do that. But...I still prefer them without music. That are just that talented. They don't need the music. (Although, I do love when Kevin plays the cello. It doesn't overpower their voices.)
I don't think the person who did the orchestration adequately allowed for the signature harmony sections in the songs to be featured, the orchestra overwhelmed them in Imagine and in some other places. Some songs were okay but others were difficult to hear Pentatonix.
Sheila Cooper Yes! Exactly what I was trying to opine in my comments above! I noticed that this seems to predominantly happen whenever they are asked to perform on some shows in America! I got slammed for saying it like that but, gee whiz, let them perform in the way that they do best! Don't spoil it if you can't enhance their sound! They don't NEED instruments, they have 'Meat and Potatoes!' 😃
"They have meat and potatoes!" YES! That is the truth. It's cool that they got to perform with an orchestra, but they just proved they don't need it to sound good. I don't think they were "forced" (for lack of a better word) to peform with the orchestra, but I hope they can perform at the Hollywood Bowl again without it.
oOcitizenOo I'm so glad someone else has noticed this! There was also a lot of fixing of their in-ears which had me thinking "are they able to hear themselves/eachother?"
An amazing job capturing this phenomenal group and show incl.fireworks.Thank you for taking the time and effort to get this recording. Also thank you Pentonix for letting this stay posted. So hoping to see them live someday .Maybe even at Red Rocks in Colorado?
Avi's lil smile when Kirstie hit that note in Imagine omg my heart. Also, the only real part with the orchestra I absolutely couldnt stand was in Hallelujah and Take on Me. Everything else I could deal with simply because it is a huge honour for them to be performing with the orchestra and in the Hollywood Bowl. An incredible and beautiful opportunity.
I got the biggest delight in watching some of the orchestra members enjoying the A cappella performance of Daft Punk. PRICELESS! Can't really hear Avi and Mitch's high notes the orchestra is tooo loud. Glad this was posted. :-) BKK
Thanks Bud! I was in the second row from the very back, and this was one of my hardest concert to film because of how far away it was, and people walking around, etc.
I think the combination of orchestra and the group is group looking at it from a creative aspect in that it pretty much feels like a huge celebration of music and with certain songs, the orchestra is an amazing addition in terms of dramatic effect. The only reason I think Pentatonix are just best by themselves is that the audience should get to see how their arrangements work and how, say, Take On Me, a classic song that everyone knows, has been arranged. The orchestra definitely takes away from that, but it's still so much fun to listen to!
It is so neat that the Hollywood Orchestra now knows the PTX arrangements for the songs that they accompanied PTX with. That is Fabulous! Will they use them again I wonder? I also wonder if Kevin talked to any of the cello players? And if any of the musicians who were really into PTX talked to them? and What Thomas Wilkins thought of them? And what the planning and rehearsals were like with the orchestra? Did anyone film any of this? So curious. Hopefully PTX members will talk about some of it. :-) BKK
Mr. Kaplan, you and your baritone voice will be missed . Pentatonix family will miss you too! I hope you will come back and sing again with the Pentatonix family. Thanks
I'm impressed with this video based on your location in the bowl. Keeping a camera/lens steady when zoomed in that close is difficult. I'm not going to judge on the audio or the orchestra. An open mic in that venue, with the volume level being pumped out, cannot accurately portray the sound quality. I am pleased that it was as good as it was at the aforementioned distance. Do you mind disclosing the lens/equipment you were using? Feel free to private message if you don't want it public.
Curtis Farster Thank you. I used the Canon Powershot SX260 HS. It is small enough to get into the concert with, because it is not a DSLR. I'm looking to replace this camera, as it is on its last legs after 5 years or so. Shot in 1080p HD at 24 fps. We were sitting in the second to last row from the back, only $14 a ticket! There were so many people moving around throughout the concert, and had to avoid them. The sound live was pretty close to what you heard on the recording. The microphones needed to be turned up, especially Avi and Kevin. Check out my other Pentatonix videos on my channel!
Masterful job of videography and sound. I was attracted to the video because of my love for PTX but was blown away by the quality of your production work. Couldn't have been easy if your initial zoom was any indication of where you were shooting from.
I am so glad he didn't say 'the Pentatonix Also, I admit it sounded good, but I think that for take on me they should have been alone. Plus, DANG AVI! JAM IT!
I was there. I was very disappointed. I didn't know that they'd be singing with the orchestra. It wasn't advertised that way. I bought tickets for my niece and me. I flew from Texas to take her. If I knew this wasn't a concert I probably wouldn't have gone. But if I did, I would have known what to expect. The folks around me said the same thing. At least I got to take my niece to her first concert. Otherwise I'd feel like I wasted a lot of money.
brownvirtue If I recall, in the video advertising Pentatonix being at the Hollywood Bowl for 4th of July weekend, it's stated that they will be performing with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. This is the orchestra's stage, of course they'll be there! Also, some songs I agree sounded off with the orchestra, but overall the weekend was a success and a fun time. Have a little gratitude, man. You witnessed something spectacular.
I didn't see the video. What I meant was that the list of tour dates on their website just said July 4th Hollywood Bowl. Nothing letting you know it was with the orchestra. My tickets didn't say anything about the orchestra either. I didn't know it was the orchestra stage. I watched concert video of Bruno Mars there and it was a regular show with just him. Like I said, I wasn't the only one around me confused. if I'd spent a couple hundred bucks, I'd be ok. But I spent a couple thousand bucks flying from Texas, staying in a hotel and renting a car, expecting to see a regular concert. I'm not disappointed by how they sounded but by the type of show. FYI, It's hard to tell mood when you're reading comments online. Hope I don't sound hostile. Still love them and will probably try to see them before Avi leaves. I'll definitely be googling the venues first!!
Shoot.. I'm sorry to hear that. But the good thing is that your niece seen her first concert. And you're right, the orchestra is overpowering their voices. PTX is a great group and the orchestra is talented, but I would've been disappointed too. Being able to go to the Hollywood Bowl is a good experience, but I do agree with you, they didn't need the orchestra at all.
I'm sorry, but orchestras always ruin it for me. Might as well not have Kevin or Avi out there then and at least on the video it sounds like their mics are never loud enough and get drowned out by the "real instruments" as some annoying people might say. This is definitely a pet peeve of mine.
Then why are you listening to a performance by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra? PTX is a guest of the Orchestra, should they pack up their instruments and go home? You both are plain stupid. It a bootleg recording what do you expect? Grow a brain.
singing with the orchestra is surely different, and I do prefer them without the orchestra. but they were invited to perform with the orchestra, and they accepted. 2 concerts one after the other from what I see. personally I would not chose to see those concerts, but only with themselves. my preference.
Omgsh! I'm so sad! The orchestra drowned them out and consequently the pitch on a lot of these is a painful mess! PTX is waaaaaaaaaay to talented too have to deal with this. Avi and Kevin were hardly heard.... I just hope it sounded better in person. I LOVE them! #PENTAHOLIC4Life
Chloe Cole Yes! Yes! Yes! They REALLY DON'T NEED instruments that just drown out their sound! The orchestra musicians were rocking away when PTX did what PTX does! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Carôle Ceres yes! They're acapella for a reason! I was bothered on how I could barely hear them, and I'd be so excited for other people to hear Mitch's high notes and I couldn't because the instruments were louder!
Chloe Cole Exactly! You couldn't hear all of Avi & Kevin's great pieces either! If you're going to have your orchestra support them, then let them SUPPORT! NOT DROWN them out! That's not what instruments are for! They're meant to enhance vocals, not drown them out! Pah!
Carôle Ceres yes! I just went on a rant on your comment from earlier because I saw waaay too many people bashing you and I understood what you were saying. Some people are just ignorant and take things waaaay too literal 🙄🙄
PTX themselves is wonderful meanwhile orchestra themselves is also wonderful. I appreciate this project. BUT when they are together, the audiences cant get the best out of them cos instead of they'll support each other, it turns out that seemingly orchestra restrains PTX...... Maybe next time, you can put PTX with only a solo of some instrument that cant hide both my AVI and KEVIN like the orchestra does....
i would like to know what the orchestra thought of performing with ptx, now this is obviously the second night they performed or the second set anyway bcz they orchestra is way more relaxed as are ptx the first time everyone was standing so still and the orchestra was staring at them like they were aliens lol
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending the Hollywood Bowl. For the safety of those around you, please do not empty any coolers onto the walkways." Just how stupid and ignorant do people have to be for that announcement to be necessary?! P.S. PTX are the best!
I hate that 'America' are the only country that won't let them be what they are: an A Cappella band! Always making them compromise their talent and spoil it with an orchestra!
"The bowl is owned by the County of Los Angeles and is the home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the host of hundreds of musical events each year." Wikipedia How can playing with the LA Phil Harmonic "compromise" their talent??? They can play with and without instruments.
I am pretty sure "America" has nothing to do with it. On the Fourth of July concerts are always accompanied by an Orchestra if it's an Independence Day Concert thus the orchestra. As far as their other concerts in America I am pretty sure they've almost all been without a band unless it was for tv or something. If you have the statistics per country backing up how their concerts are played in each I'd love to read the comparisons to other countries *sarcasm*
It's actually an honor for Pentatonix to perform in Hollywood Bowl. And I don't think the orchestra compromise their talent. Being invited to perform in Hollywood Bowl itself is like an acknowledgement of their talent and success. I won't complain about it.
eienbeau Yeah, I get all that! But if it's such an honour to be invited because of who and what they are, why not let them do what they're reknown for? Most countries have their prestigious venues and orchestras, much like the Hollywood Bowl, but would you invite a prestigious magician to such a place and ask him to join in with the jugglers or clowns? No. You wouldn't. I don't understand why they are frequently asked to perform, because of who they are and what they do, only to ask them to do what every other artist would be asked to do! It's not that much of an honour, if you don't actual respect and honour what they actually do! They are a multitalented A Cappella group! They are amazing because of what sounds they produce without having musical instruments! What's the point of bestowing such an honour if you don't have the confidence or the respect to let them do what they brilliantly shine at? You seldom heard the 'Meat and Potatoes' aspect of their performance! The very thing that got them where they are today... That's all I'm saying. And I'm not proffering anymore disrespect to the Hollywood Bowl, than they have proffered to Pentatonix! It's a backhanded compliment in my opinion. But it's just that - my opinion.
missjanebronte The whole 'Point' of Pentatonix is that they perform - Brilliantly - without musical instruments! So, if you're inviting them to perform on your stage, you should accept that. It's only respectful, in my opinion.
I always and forever will love the way Mitch puts his index finger from the hand the hold his mic on his nose when he sings! Whenever I watch him do this while performing i just automatically smile
These guysss are fucking awesomeeee !!! their vocals are sooo godamn perfect !!!
I loved how during evolution of me you could all see them subtly going through their tour choreo. Especially Scott. It's was so entertaining
Such a special night! I was struck by the fact that it takes a whole orchestra to do what Avi and Kevin do. I could usually hear the trio, but it was hard to hear Avi and Kevin a lot of the time when the orchestra was playing, because they were doing the same thing. Thank you to Bronsal07 for recording this
I just love how much Avi was enjoying himself during Bohemian Rapsody
withius it's so sad to think we'll no longer enjoy his enthusiasm on the stage for much longer 😢😢😢
He was really happy that A cappella academy was performing! I was close to the front in this concert and he was showing so much love to the students!!
Mmmmm
At 31:35 is that a boy?
YESSSS. GO MY BABY MITCH 😭😍🙌🏼
Scott doing the choreo on the MJ Medley while no one else was had me laughing. He's so adorable
Hollywood Bowl-- lifetime opportunity
Yes, they are an A Cappella group however it was really great to have them with a full Orchestra. You could tell It was special for all of the performers. It was quite a treat. Albititta love You're welcome!
Wow, watch MITCH! He is a jumping bean FULL of energy all night! Dancing, dancing, dancing. I rewatched this concert just to concentrate on LOVING and watching Mitch.
Richard Mao
Thank you so much for this video of the entire concert! I would have loved to have been there! So awesome.
Omfg Kevin has his own little pad that he can stomp on! That's so cute!
That pad is an electronic trigger. They use it to insert recorded beats such as hand claps and things that are very repetitive for Kevin to do while beat boxing other rhythms. If you notice at one point while Kevin is singing, Mitch steps over and uses it.
Curtis Farster Yeah, I noticed that! I just thought it was so cute with Kevin standing there, stomping his foot☺️
Maestro Thomas Wilkins is a fabulous conductor. He was the conductor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and put on daughter on stage when she was 6 to conduct, she is now an aspiring cellist. Thank you Maestro!
Kane Rubin does he also prefer to be called Maestro? 😁😄

Was there. They were great!
JohnDoyleMusic damn I soooo envy you! Did they sound better in person?
Yeah they sounded real good when they sang acapella that night. They really have the chops. The occasional orchestra behind them took something away from the performance. I wish I had seen them at The Grove in Anaheim last year (October?). I hear that was the event to experience.
JohnDoyleMusic wish I could have seen them live at least once:)
They're still a band, right? I don't think they are dissolving.
JohnDoyleMusic they're definitely still a band, Avis just taking a small break and they all have some solo stuff that they're doing anyways
Coming back to this video again but I just love how happy Kirstie looks in this!
That was Awesome ,thanx for sharing.
At mj medley, you can see musicians look at each other and say "wow this is some good shit"
bahadır danışmant yes! And during Daft Punk! Did you see them rocking to the music?
The best times during their set was when the conductor sat down!!! 😆😆😆
Dear Hollywood Bowl:
You don't need nearly 200 people to put on this Concert.
5 would have been fine.
Thanks.
A million thanks for recording the whole shabang!
All these commenters hating on the orchestra. You people be stupid!! The orchestra was great and you could tell Pentatonix enjoyed having the orchestra play with them. The music sounded even MORE epic (not that it wasn't already epic) with the orchestra backing them up and filling up the sound. INCREDIBLE concert!
not stupid, just people's perfences.
Thank you so much for posting this. I will never get to see Pentatonix in person, and to get to hear the concert is really, really cool.
cindydintn Check out my other 2 Pentatonix concert videos on my channel!
I love a normal a capella Pentatonix performance, but it's cool to see them having fun with something different. Bonus: The first violin's OBVIOUS deep enjoyment of PTX whenever she's not playing. :D
When you have an obvious love of good music, it shows (speaking from a former 1st violinist's perspective) PENTATONIX is such a wonderful group!
Felt like I was actually there! Thank you for livestreaming it!
Everyone says they hated the orchestra but I loved it! We hear PTX all the time without instruments and I thought it was cool to finally see it. With that being said, I'm not saying that they need the orchestra to be good, it's just a really cool one time thing. i have exactly the same thoughts. In some parts orchestra distracted them so much that couldn't hit the right note. IMHO they sound great without it!
oOcitizenOo I'm so glad someone else has noticed this! There was also a lot of fixing of their in-ears which had me thinking "are they able to hear themselves/eachother?"
I was there. It was awesome and they were so excited to be at the hollywood bowl. Amazing talent!!!
You can tell Kirstie was enjoying herself 😊
Am I the only one who likes the orchestra? it sounds refreshing hearing ptx in a new way.
my opinion no, but it was different. I just personally like just them.
That Orchestrated version of Sing really rocked.
so funny when they were stopping themselves from doing the choreo on evolution of mj 😂
I got the biggest delight in watching some of the orchestra members enjoying the A cappella performance of Daft Punk. PRICELESS! Can't really hear Avi and Mitch's high notes the orchestra is tooo loud. Glad this was posted. :-) BKK
Thanks for sharing the video - was different to see that side of PTX!!
thanks for uploading Bronsal07! I remember you uploaded lots of good PTX stuff on past tours...your efforts are appreciated!
Thanks Bud! I was in the second row from the very back, and this was one of my hardest concert to film because of how far away it was, and people walking around, etc.
Bronsal07 that camera has some serious zoom hahahahah honestly it's amazing thank you for this :)
when u zoomed out, I thought, he is really far far back. u must have a good camera.
u did a great job.
thank you a lot :D
Thhhannnnkkkkk yoouuuuuu! luv frm Australia ! :)

I agree. Their collaborations serve to enhance the songs, not diminished. What a beautiful tribute to John Lennon's Imagine, as well
i love that theirs an orchestra there for this, it gives a different vibe to their performance. but it really drowns out their voices in this video..
At 8:12, the lady on the right of the orchestra knows how to have fun
I'd love to see this group in concert! Amazing band of singers!
I love this yall r my favorite this made my day so much better i just found this it was done on my 16th birthday. Thank you for making a new album. :)
The lady in the right during Daft Punk is my spirit animal.
alexadwn I thought I was the only one who saw her lol 😂 she is amazing
No orchestra needed because they are incredible but...it gave the musicians an opportunity to experience Pentatonix power and magic!
Omg Kevin singing the way you make me feel! My heart hurts :'')
The only good thing about having the orchestra there was seeing their impressed faces when ptx sang without them!
Adele Poulton nailed it. 👍
With and without Instruments Brilliant💖🎆🎇🎉
Sublime ! Je les adore. Ils enchaînent leur voix parfaitement. Bravissimo.
Mitch is adorable 🥰♥️
aha is epic with the orchestra!!!!!
Scott is such a great singer 😍😍😍😍
it's funny how only one member of the orchestra is having fun while they are singing. The lady behind Kevin is super happy watching them.
When Kirstie dropped her water bottle cap 😂😂😂😂she had to get Scott to grab it
Queen and Noodle When? I missed it 😭
35:10
oh that is what she dropped. I wandered what it was.
LOVE PTX ❤️❤️❤️
love ptx
gracias por subir este conciertoooooooooooo :)
I love how the celloplayer dances in her seat at Daft Punk medley 😀
To be honest, the true a-capella moments like with Daft Punk are the best parts :)
Omg....the "I love you Scott!!!" at 35:36 and then his little wave and smile I'M DEAD he's so f*ckin cute
It is so neat that the Hollywood Orchestra now knows the PTX arrangements for the songs that they accompanied PTX with. That is Fabulous! Will they use them again I wonder? Awesomeness.
Mr. Kaplan, you and your baritone voice will be missed . Pentatonix family will miss you too! I hope you will come back and sing again with the Pentatonix family. Thanks
THIS WAS ON MY BIRTHDAY!
musicians listen....hell ya

I love this! This concert shows just how talented these young people are singing their hearts out
супер

Masterful job of videography and sound. I was attracted to the video because of my love for PTX but was blown away by the quality of your production work. Couldn't have been easy if your initial zoom was any indication of where you were shooting from.
Would be cool to see Kevin with just the percussion gathered around him and listening to him beatbox!
Thank god, I thought avi was left in pentatonix by the way good job guys.. very good performance
I am so glad he didn't say 'the Pentatonix
Also, I admit it sounded good, but I think that for take on me they should have been alone. Plus, DANG AVI! JAM IT!
45:36 XD first time I hear him miss that bad!! I can't imagine how their voices were the next day
Nice to see a different performance, but truly enforces their ability in performing acapella.

Omgsh! I'm so sad! The orchestra drowned them out and consequently the pitch on a lot of these is a painful mess! PTX is waaaaaaaaaay to talented too have to deal with this. Avi and Kevin were hardly heard.... I just hope it sounded better in person. I LOVE them! #PENTAHOLIC4Life
I agree.
😭❤️
OMGieeeezzz Kevin😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I don't like the orchestra with them 😫😭,, I DO like the ochestra's reaction to them whenever they sing acapella 😁😝❤️
Carôle Ceres agree 100%
The orchestra was great but I love the group singing without them so much better
What kind of camera do you use? That zoom is amazing!
Amy S Canon Powershot SX260 HS. We were far from the stage, had a better view from the camera.
Props to the camera work. It really has a great zoom. What type of camera is it?
I keep getting distracted by Kirstie, she's so sparkly
What camera did u use. So damn good and clear.
Don't make me turn this country around! @ the American vs. the rest of the world debate.
Avi is all about those hips
There is very any sound coming from Avis mic. Like someone turn his freaking mic up
Kenny Lowman We could only hear him on the PTX only songs, or if he had a solo.
Does anyone know who arranged their a cappella songs for the orchestra? I know it’s been five years, but I’ve always been curious.
i would like to know what the orchestra thought of performing with ptx, now this is obviously the second night they performed or the second set anyway bcz they orchestra is way more relaxed as are ptx the first time everyone was standing so still and the orchestra was staring at them like they were aliens lol
Oh my fucking god the pretty part of Imagine was distorted very hard by the orchestra and by Kirstie messing up!!!!
Did Scott add some extra riffs in most of the songs. Especially in Where Are You now
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending the Hollywood Bowl. For the safety of those around you, please do not empty any coolers onto the walkways."
Just how stupid and ignorant do people have to be for that announcement to be necessary?!
P.S. PTX are the best!
why did they used instruments players if their deal is acapella?
I hate that 'America' are the only country that won't let them be what they are: an A Cappella band! Always making them compromise their talent and spoil it with an orchestra!
"The bowl is owned by the County of Los Angeles and is the home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the host of hundreds of musical events each year." Wikipedia
How can playing with the LA Phil Harmonic "compromise" their talent???
