  • Winter in Nova Scotia is starting out interesting. Snow storm one day, rain storm the next and repeat.
    Dominic put a ridge beam in our Cattle Panel Greenhouse to keep it from collapsing under the snow.
    if you want to see the full build of the greenhouse, check it out here:

    At the end of this winter we did a full review of our thoughts on having this greenhouse over winter with the chickens in it ua-cam.com/video/peH-C_BbZNg/v-deo.html

    A choice to replace the foam would be an old garden hose split length wise. A garden hose would last as long as the cattle panels almost.
    1 thing about the door frames you built, if you run the cross brace from the bottom hinge side to the highest corner (highest corner to the opposite side of the hinge) they hold the frame much better. Aesthetically, the way you did it looks better, but doesn't hold the weight of the door, gate, or frame as well. There is a really good video here on UA-cam on gate building where they show it. I would say that is part of the door problem you encountered. You did the bottom of one of the doors the way I am describing that I know of, not sure about the other. I realize they don't weigh that much. but frame integrity alone needs to hold up.
    All that said, Good Job though I hope you get to use, and enjoy the greenhouse/coop for years.

      Hose would do the trick I'd say. I've been stuffing rolled up feed bags in there which replaces the thickness of the foam to keep the plastic a little tighter. Thanks for the tip on the doors. That and the coop are my biggest "carpentry" projects. Definitely in my early learning stages with building stuff, hopefully I can pick up tips like that along the way.

      @@ODriscolls We all start somewhere, the key is to keep climbing and learn as you go. Improvement never stops, we do. You can remove the foam giving plenty of room to slip the hose on, and then tighten the plastic with either more furring strips around the door and window areas, or place them around the outside perimeters of the frames pinching the plastic without taking anything off.

    I would definitely work on getting the water out of there. Moisture is bad for chickens to keep breathing in when it gets cold. A thick layer of straw or wood chips would keep the moisture down. The ridge beam looks good. Merry Christmas O’Driscoll family

    • @ODriscolls
      @ODriscolls  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it's definitely a concern! The real cold weather hasn't hit us yet fortunately. I think with the ventilation and a bit more leaves on the ground it should dry up!

    Do you know where cattle panels can be bought in Cape Breton or in Nova Scotia?

    • @ODriscolls
      @ODriscolls  2 роки тому

      In cape breton you can get them at the Co-op in Sydney River. Up on the mainland there are more options I believe.
