I always felt icky about it and couldn't put my finger on why, finally realized it was because of how manipulative and degrading it is, it's one thing if all contestants get a portion of the income from the videos, but we know that's not happening
My issue with it is that it glamorizes the benefits of individual charity while completely ignoring the opportunity to educate people on the need for systemic change that either makes charity more accessible or replaces it with better social programs altogether.
People often forget that any form of charity is essentially selfish. I believe that altruism and philanthropy do not exist. If you think about it, people do charity to make them look better, to feel better, to write off taxes etc. Selfish. Whole world is a facade

THANK YOU!! I was bothered by what Coop said, she didn't make that video to try to get clout or whatever she was really disappointed by what jimmy did! She was competing for her chosen charity to win the money wasn't she? She had been doing so well hiding and then to make the whole thing about logan, when he is a disgusting person that doesn't need to be promoted more than he already is. Was it him or someone else that hid in an area that was considered off limits as well?! I feel like at that moment it showed to me who Jimmy was. And I'm kinda surprised at how much coop downplayed that, it felt like a repeat of what everyone did to her back then. I was really upset for her.
I definitely think the sexism and rigged aspect of the show was downplayed by commentary UA-camrs. I remember a good video on how the UA-cam algorithm heavily favours men over women and Jimmy who's publicly said he studies the algorithm probably planned never to have any women in his thumbnail. Plus the fact someone else from the top three was also discarded, so from the start it was rigged to favour the most popular creators. Prior to this, everyone who critiqued Mr beast was demonised. Jack, the disabled community, Rosanna. How disturbing that he was placed above criticism. Glad that people are finally giving him a second look.
He knows EXACTLY what Squid Games is. A dystopian nightmare where people are forced to compete out of desperation. And given most the people in this competition are trying to pay of student loans and medical debt, that's exactly what he created, putting zero thought into the ethics of exploiting people during hardships. Good job, Jimmy.
Which is why he's not actually a good person doing good things. He's out to use struggling people as entertainment and props to make himself look better. At that point, you are no longer doing good, and your philanthropy is not philanthropy. There's no altruism there, and he doesn't care what happens to the individual afterward (or before, in the case of his big game show) as long as it gets him views, likes, and fame. He also lies about his production costing more than he earns. Much of the money he gives away or uses to help others is given to him by the government or by sponsors, or is used as a tax write-off. He's very much interested in earning money, not giving it all away (which he's also said), but his primary interest is fame and influence. And he mostly appeals to children, who are very easily drawn to him--and who did free labor for him because he asked them to stock shelves with his candy. Which is of course, targeted mostly at kids, when candy isn't exactly healthy. Suffice it to say, I don't watch him and I'm not a fan. I haven't ever been a fan of him, but the fact that he pals around with Logan Paul (who is associated with a number of animal deaths and abandonments among his pets) and Elon Musk (who continually expresses anti-women and anti-trans sentiments, among other things) is more than enough to make me give him a side eye and avoid anything associated with him. He's also expressed an interest in running for President someday, and I think that while he very well might get the votes if some scandal doesn't knock him down before then, I do not think that would be a good thing.

Also, as much as I appreciate Cooper finally siding with Rosanna, I found it disappointing that he, himself, didn't understand why she spoke out against Mr. Beast. She had every right to stand up for herself and tell the truth about her experience, working with Mr. Beast. Yet, Cooper kinda invalidated her feelings and sorta reiterated some of the hate she received when she first talked about it. Just like someone had mentioned here, dogpack was a former employee and there was no comment (by Cooper) about him having a vendetta or bone to pick with Mr. Beast, compared to Rosanna. Quackity was also edited out of the top 3 and both him and Rosanna were replaced with Logan Paul and other popular male contestants who are friends of Mr. Beast. Just felt like Coop didn't do as much research about Rosanna, when he's always the one defending women in his videos.

Props to the actual Squid Games for predicting that a group of strong young men would form in a tug of war game- that's the plot of episode 4. THAT BEING SAID, MrBeast either knowingly created this bloodthirsty and desperate situation in which elderly people with balance issues and brittle bones could be CRUSHED, or he was so completely blind to the point of the show and hence endangered these people is insane.
I think the Rosanna part that is being overlooked isn't just that she got less screen time. She was asked by a peer from UA-cam to give her time and compete. For his show, for his channel and for his financial gain. The prize was money for the winner's followers. She agreed and did her best, and then when it comes out, she was disapointed to see that all her effort was erased. To completely change the rankings, removing the woman and mexican man from the top, where they actually ranked, and replacing them with Logan Paul; a white man.. Mr. Beast's audience doesn't get to see them do well and rank where they actually did, they are being put below a white man who didn't earn it. Why? Why can't his audience handle seeing a woman do well? Why aren't the actual results good enough? Not to mention, she said it was a boys club, she felt very unwelcome and some people were allowed to cheat. This same boys club mentality is what is being put into Beast's videos and consumed by his child audience. Men getting unfair advantages and being rewarded for it. Additionally Rosanna was proud of herself for what she accomplished and was trying to win for her followers. And proud of how her followers would see her in the video, and then when the video came out, that pride for her effort was robbed from her. Lastly.. to ask a youtube peer to do you a favor by being in your video.. and then treat them poorly and like they are less important than other people who turned up, is so disrespectful. If she's not valued, why is she giving him her time. It's like inviting a friend over and then ignoring, and making fun of them when a friend you like more shows up. The fact that Mr. Beast saw Squid Games and went: "YES! I can capitalize on this!" tells me everything i need to know about him. Squid Games was a warning, a macabre dramatization of what capitalism does to people and society. Oh shocking, a raging capitalist took away the wrong message. (His philanthrophy doesn't erase the way he's turned struggling people's hardships into entertainment).

52:45 Something to remember about the original Rosana story, is part of the reason she was upset was the competition she participated in was to raise money for charity. Each contestant was representing a charity that was important to them, and by manipulating the narrative those charities essentially missed out on the considerable donations that were promised to them, and the participants weren’t aware of this fact until after the video was released.

Yeah that happened to me when I was 12 with a 17/18 year old and I was in my 20's by the time I realized how fucked up it was. We were "on and off" for years. Our families "met" each other in passing through video calls but I don't think they realized inappropriate things were happening between us.

I just want to point out that the pads were supposedly withheld because they weren’t a medical emergency You’re supposed to change pads every 4-6 hours If you do not change pads you risk getting toxic shock syndrome TTS can be lethal, and while it is pretty rare (especially with pads as opposed to tampons) it’s not something you wanna play around with and the risk of TTS rises drastically after wearing the same pad for 24 hours let alone 2 days
Having a budget of that size and requesting for it to be non-union is so incredibly concerning and terrifying, then to have a credited film union come forward and say it’s unsafe makes it significantly worse. I never really thought about it until I saw Willy Muse’s video on MrBeast.
My issue with it is that it glamorizes the benefits of individual charity while completely ignoring the opportunity to educate people on the need for systemic change that either makes charity more accessible or replaces it with better social programs altogether.
People often forget that any form of charity is essentially selfish. I believe that altruism and philanthropy do not exist. If you think about it, people do charity to make them look better, to feel better, to write off taxes etc. Selfish. Whole world is a facade

I definitely think the sexism and rigged aspect of the show was downplayed by commentary UA-camrs. I remember a good video on how the UA-cam algorithm heavily favours men over women and Jimmy who's publicly said he studies the algorithm probably planned never to have any women in his thumbnail. Plus the fact someone else from the top three was also discarded, so from the start it was rigged to favour the most popular creators. Prior to this, everyone who critiqued Mr beast was demonised. Jack, the disabled community, Rosanna. How disturbing that he was placed above criticism. Glad that people are finally giving him a second look.
He knows EXACTLY what Squid Games is. A dystopian nightmare where people are forced to compete out of desperation. And given most the people in this competition are trying to pay of student loans and medical debt, that's exactly what he created, putting zero thought into the ethics of exploiting people during hardships.

Which is why he's not actually a good person doing good things. He's out to use struggling people as entertainment and props to make himself look better. At that point, you are no longer doing good, and your philanthropy is not philanthropy. There's no altruism there, and he doesn't care what happens to the individual afterward (or before, in the case of his big game show) as long as it gets him views, likes, and fame. He also lies about his production costing more than he earns. Much of the money he gives away or uses to help others is given to him by the government or by sponsors, or is used as a tax write-off. He's very much interested in earning money, not giving it all away (which he's also said), but his primary interest is fame and influence. And he mostly appeals to children, who are very easily drawn to him--and who did free labor for him because he asked them to stock shelves with his candy. Which is of course, targeted mostly at kids, when candy isn't exactly healthy.
Suffice it to say, I don't watch him and I'm not a fan. I haven't ever been a fan of him, but the fact that he pals around with Logan Paul (who is associated with a number of animal deaths and abandonments among his pets) and Elon Musk (who continually expresses anti-women and anti-trans sentiments, among other things) is more than enough to make me give him a side eye and avoid anything associated with him.
He's also expressed an interest in running for President someday, and I think that while he very well might get the votes if some scandal doesn't knock him down before then, I do not think that would be a good thing.

Also, as much as I appreciate Cooper finally siding with Rosanna, I found it disappointing that he, himself, didn't understand why she spoke out against Mr. Beast. She had every right to stand up for herself and tell the truth about her experience, working with Mr. Beast. Yet, Cooper kinda invalidated her feelings and sorta reiterated some of the hate she received when she first talked about it. Just like someone had mentioned here, dogpack was a former employee and there was no comment (by Cooper) about him having a vendetta or bone to pick with Mr. Beast, compared to Rosanna. Quackity was also edited out of the top 3 and both him and Rosanna were replaced with Logan Paul and other popular male contestants who are friends of Mr. Beast. Just felt like Coop didn't do as much research about Rosanna, when he's always the one defending women in his videos.

Props to the actual Squid Games for predicting that a group of strong young men would form in a tug of war game- that's the plot of episode 4. THAT BEING SAID, MrBeast either knowingly created this bloodthirsty and desperate situation in which elderly people with balance issues and brittle bones could be CRUSHED, or he was so completely blind to the point of the show and hence endangered these people is insane.

I think the Rosanna part that is being overlooked isn't just that she got less screen time.
She was asked by a peer from UA-cam to give her time and compete. For his show, for his channel and for his financial gain. The prize was money for the winner's followers. She agreed and did her best, and then when it comes out, she was disapointed to see that all her effort was erased.
To completely change the rankings, removing the woman and mexican man from the top, where they actually ranked, and replacing them with Logan Paul; a white man.. Mr. Beast's audience doesn't get to see them do well and rank where they actually did, they are being put below a white man who didn't earn it. Why? Why can't his audience handle seeing a woman do well? Why aren't the actual results good enough?
Not to mention, she said it was a boys club, she felt very unwelcome and some people were allowed to cheat. This same boys club mentality is what is being put into Beast's videos and consumed by his child audience. Men getting unfair advantages and being rewarded for it.
Additionally Rosanna was proud of herself for what she accomplished and was trying to win for her followers. And proud of how her followers would see her in the video, and then when the video came out, that pride for her effort was robbed from her.
Lastly.. to ask a youtube peer to do you a favor by being in your video.. and then treat them poorly and like they are less important than other people who turned up, is so disrespectful. If she's not valued, why is she giving him her time. It's like inviting a friend over and then ignoring, and making fun of them when a friend you like more shows up. She was asked to give her time, just to be undervalued filler. Women and diversity quotas.

Each contestant was representing a charity that was important to them, and by manipulating the narrative those charities essentially missed out on the considerable donations that were promised to them, and the participants weren’t aware of this fact until after the video was released.

Yeah that happened to me when I was 12 with a 17/18 year old and I was in my 20's by the time I realized how fucked up it was. We were "on and off" for years. Our families "met" each other in passing through video calls but I don't think they realized inappropriate things were happening between us.

TTS can be lethal, and while it is pretty rare (especially with pads as opposed to tampons) it’s not something you wanna play around with and the risk of TTS rises drastically after wearing the same pad for 24 hours let alone 2 days
Having a budget of that size and requesting for it to be non-union is so incredibly concerning and terrifying, then to have a credited film union come forward and say it’s unsafe makes it significantly worse. I’m SO curious to see the breakdown of this budget and where all this money went department wise & above/below the line

I know you're a guy and everything, but it's really, really important for conversations about menstrual products to be more precise. Not changing a tampon for days is waaaaay different than not changing a pad for days; even though neither are good, not changing a tampon is way, way worse and that information needs to be made clear to protect young girls and afab people who are learning how to take care of that kind of thing safely
