Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date; Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimmed; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed: But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st, Nor shall Death brag thou wand'rest in his shade*, When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st. So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

i have to memorize this and i have 4days left to memorize can you guys cheer me up? this is requirements for moving up in jonior high hope i can memorize it:)
The iambic rhythm is not quite right. The stress falls on the second syllable in each line, so that the beat is: da-DUM da-DUM (where "DUM" has the emphasis). So, in the second line, it should run "Rough WINDS do SHAKE..." And in the third line: "Thou ART more LOVEly..." Also in the 5th line: "SomeTIME too HOT...."

I love this poem, it’s saying she will will live on through the lines of this poem, and we still know this poem today so she truly is immortal!
She or he..The poem is addressed to the mysterious W.H. Historians argue it could be a man
Actually, it is said that this sonnet is probably addressed to the fair youth, the Earl of Southampton
I guess we all had to memorize and interpret this😂

So long lives this.... Indeed the most eternal sonnet...
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow’st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
