You can find all of the fabrics and pattern envelopes that I show in my online shop here guthrie-ghani....
In this video I am wearing the Paper Theory Olya Shirt. We featured this pattern, now available as a PDF directly from the Paper Theory website, in a Sewing Society kit last summer. My top tips video for making this garment is available here

We have a new range of striped viscose fabrics that is the same as my shirt...check them out on the website in this link

    Questions covered
I am going to make the I am Hathor vest in your fur-backed corduroy fabric. As it’s fur-backed I am not going to line the vest. My question is how do I finish the neckline, armholes and centre front edges of the fabric? The bottom I guess I just turned up and hem, but I wasn’t sure what I needed to do on the other edges.
I’m hacking a top/blouse to open down the front - any tips for neat corners, please?
Can you suggest any sewing chairs? My back and shoulders ache after sewing!
How do you do darts in heavy fabric like suede or corduroy?
Zip recommendations for Fibre mood didi pullover in a pale sea green fleece, possibly a pop of colour?
I'm making my wedding dress this year. I'm aiming for something simple but elegant. But it's in November! My plan is a D&D Magnolia in meet milk tencel twill. I'm hoping this won't be too heavy for the magnolia. I'd like to be able to dye the dress afterwards but I'm wondering what thread to use as I don't think Guterman sew-all will dye because of it being polyester?
How can I slightly lower/widen the neckline of the TATB Marnie?
Would love to see a fabric for crease-resistant trousers for summer.
Can you tell me what pattern was used for the beautiful long coat on display behind you?
I just purchased the Maison Fauve Dandelion jacket pattern but need to have some selections of fabric. Can you help, please?
How many metres do you have left of this Atelier Brunette Oasis Night Viscose Fabric, please?
I have your Spruce Bamboo Blended Twill fabric for the Mitchells but I realise it has stretch, would it work or should I use the cotton twill?
And is the cotton twill different in weight/stiffness to the sanded twill used for the Philippa kit? Thank you
Dungaree pattern for toddlers for knit fabric
Fabric for 1st Marnie blouse, i’m not ready for viscose. I don’t want structure or stiff fabric either.
Would the dark green rib knit be suitable for a Nikko dress or top?
Fabric recommendations for the Sabel cardigan as an alternative to the kit fabric.
I have got 2m of the pink confetti modal fabric and it’s so nice! Any pattern recommendations, please?
Do you have any pattern recommendations for camis that suit curvier women? (not the Ogden)
Does the Cone Mills rigid denim need prewashing twice like it was suggested with the stretch version?
Fabric suggestions for black jersey knickers, please.
Please recommend a simple beanie pattern so I can use up my fabric from the Sabel kit.
Can you recommend any dress patterns with a shirt collar? Like M7834 is no longer in print.

Hi Lauren. Just catching up on your video. I am a physio who specialises in ergonomics and I can recommend people to use a proper adjustable office chair with a decent height back rest. It needs to be adjustable in height because if the chair is too low you will be hunching your shoulders up to reach the sewing machine. The chair height needs to be such that with your elbows bent at 90 degrees your hands are at the height of the sewing machine arm. Also I used to get terrible back ache stooping over to cut out but since getting a custom built high table I no longer get it. Another thing people do is to sit too far from the sewing machine so they are leaning forwards. They really need to tuck the chair in quite close to the sewing machine table and have the sewing machine quite close to the front. Taking regular breaks from sewing is another good idea! One should sit right to the back of the chair so the backrest can give you support and pull the chair in close. Hope that all helps. Diana

For the pedal moving as you sew (sliding further under the table), put a bit of non-slip fabric underneath it. I found mine on Amazon.🙂

Re: neck/shoulder pain. I also thoroughly recommend the Love To Sew Podcast episode on sewing ergonomics with Rose Parr!

Like you I do all my pinning etc at my table which is slightly higher than a kitchen worktop height. I only actually sit to machine sew and overlock. Height adjustable office chair is also good.

To stabilise viscose to make it easy to work with I spray starch it - also stops edges fraying. Would work for a Marni. 😊Lynne

Also you can get and I have one - a sort of mock suede pad that goes under your sewing foot pedal and stops it slipping around

I found my machine on my desk was too high so my shoulders hurt because my arms were forced higher .. I now have a typist chair .. all sorted!

Hi Lauren! I would love to know if you have any pattern recommendations for postpartum. I am also expecting my third baby in May! I find that during pregnancy I generally have enough clothes that work well enough but I am always lacking clothes that are suitable for the 24hour milk bar that inevitably happens once the babe is born. As I enter my 3rd trimester now I'm trying to get more prepared this time and make a few things that will be suitable for nursing. Do you have any favorite patterns or hacks to make things nursing friendly? I know button downs work but honestly I don't have the time/energy to iron with a newborn and I don't like wearing non-ironed shirts. What do you think? Thanks!!

I’ve seen a site called Bra Builders that has a rainbow of fold over elastic for lingerie making. I’m sure other lingerie suppliers have it. I’ve seen it used as binding/shoulder straps on a tank top by TomKat Stitchery here on UA-cam.
